Last day of summer

Some folks work out.

Some sleep.

Some wonder why I can't find a single low-light setting on this wretched camera that looks good.

"Autumn" in Los Angeles.

i love the windows in your exercise room!
103? really? wow.

I'm in Oregon. It's going to be 93 today. I don't get it. Did we do something wrong? Must a sacrifice be made?

I remember those forecasts from my days in Phoenix, and I feel your pain! I will resist the urge to tell you that it is 78 degrees right now in Nashville :)
Posted by: aileen at September 21, 2009 11:14 AM
It's cold and rainy here in Colorado Springs. My friend Becca and I were talking about how depressing it is, since it never really got hot this summer:( I actually had to turn on my furnace, which I was really not happy about because I don't want to pay the bill! I wish I was in L.A. right now!

I love that picture of Bob!!
...Ok, I love all pictures of Bob.

I just left Los Angeles last night after having been to Disneyland for 5 days. It's far too hot there for a Canadian gal, let me tell ya!
Also, as I was heading to LAX, my final thought was not, hey all the stars live here. Instead it was, hey my favorite web blogger Laurie lives somewhere in this vast city!
Go figure that one.

Ooooo! Better get a sweater. It's going to be 95 Saturday. o.0
Posted by: Cookie at September 21, 2009 11:42 AM
HOLY HORSE! Look at those temperatures! Makes me glad I live in New England.
Posted by: Jen at September 21, 2009 11:43 AM
Yow! Reminds me why I'm glad to have left SoCal for eastern WA. Yeah, we get 100F+ days up here, but we also get seasons. Fall wasted no time this year, morning of the equinox today and it was 39F. So nice... But still expected to see upper 80s through the week.

Your new place looks just LOVELY. Are you going to decorate for Christmas this year? Those windows behind your treadmill just scream for twinkly lights. :)
Posted by: zaftiguous at September 21, 2009 11:49 AM
It's suppose to be in the 90's all week here in Reno. How's the new place?
Posted by: Heidi at September 21, 2009 11:56 AM
Ouch.....that looks like our current temperatures in Phoenix! I'm from Oregon and miss the seasons!!
Posted by: Lori at September 21, 2009 12:24 PM
FYI, watched the movie Lakeview Terrace w/Samuel L Jackson yesterday and your favorite weatherman, Dallas Raines has a starring role as..wait for it..A WEATHERMAN!!!
Posted by: dani at September 21, 2009 12:25 PM
I 2nd zaftiguous' kudos on the new place. I looks like it has some very cool architectural features and the cats like it too! I'm so happy for you. Now all you need a week off to get settled in. :-)
Posted by: Carly at September 21, 2009 12:29 PM
Can they sit and look out the windows? The architectural details look interesting too :)
Posted by: Leslie at September 21, 2009 12:31 PM
Red Flag on Tuesday? But not Wednesday? We don't get red flag warnings in MI (had to google that)! Stay safe!
Posted by: Jenni at September 21, 2009 12:36 PM
Whoa!! If that is autumn, you Angelinos can have it.
Though it's turned a little chilly here in Nebr. & I don't much care for that either. 75-80 is about right. LOL
Cute kitties.
Posted by: Linda at September 21, 2009 12:38 PM
I feel your pain. We've had some 90 and 100 degree days here in western Washington, but it got downright cold last night (in the low 40's), but supposed to be up in the 80's during the days most of this week.
Posted by: Darlene Garner at September 21, 2009 12:44 PM
Holy Guacamole! It's 45 here in Denver--stashbusting sweater weather!
Posted by: Susan at September 21, 2009 12:47 PM
It could be worse. In the past 24 hours we've had about 18 inches of rain. Everything is floating away...
Posted by: shea at September 21, 2009 01:08 PM
Your "lows" are our "highs" here in Boston....love that we both call it "Autumn"!!!!
It just isn't fall to me without sweaters and layers and boots and scarves.
Posted by: Anutt at September 21, 2009 01:13 PM
oh gosh! so hot :(
Love the kitty pics. Bob is still bobalicious!
Posted by: Marlene at September 21, 2009 01:16 PM
Post some more pics of your new place! I'm dying to see it.
Posted by: melissa at September 21, 2009 01:39 PM
You think she is sleeping? HA! She is putting the finishing touches on her plan for world domination. (I recognize the blissfully power-mad expression.)
Posted by: Lucia at September 21, 2009 02:01 PM
And to think I was complaining when we had a 7-day string of 90+-degree days with 73% or higher humidity!
Posted by: Cathryn at September 21, 2009 02:29 PM
'less heat'? Ugh - CA sounds like South Carolina. We are finally getting pleasant evening temperatures in the lo-mid 70s, kinda like spring-time all over again. But we had a really mild summer - i don't think it got above 99 degrees the whole season!
Posted by: Jeanette at September 21, 2009 03:55 PM
Come to Idaho. Your low is our high today. It was supposed to be 33 degrees F. last night. (I didn't check out the news this morning to see if it was or not). Everyone one was grumpy about the cold though.
Posted by: Suzanne at September 21, 2009 04:45 PM
Ok, 103 is hot...but at least you go down to the 60's at night. Here in Texas (hey aren't you a native Texan??) there is no such temp difference. We had 100's during the day and it was 85 and humid at bedtime and no different when you get up in the morning...I'd LOVE 60's at night....
Posted by: dee at September 21, 2009 05:05 PM
The bits of new place which show behind the cats look very nice. The cats look very happy. Who cares how nice the place is if the cats are happy? I mean, really.
You can have that heat, girl. I hope you can crank the air conditioning and it works. Knit on!
Posted by: Leah at September 21, 2009 05:18 PM
I'm a member of the Bob fan club, too. He just looks so sweet. Puzzled, but sweet.
You're teasing us with the mini-bytes of your new home. We're waiting for the big reveal.

Red Flag...What is that supposed to mean, that on Tuesday it will be not just HOT but REALLY HOT? I am a Southern Californian living west of Eugene Oregon and missing California 24/7. I love your posts Laurie, keeps me connected in a small way.
Posted by: Furball at September 21, 2009 06:23 PM
I love that room that has all of those small windows. It looks like it might be in a circle, or maybe that's the camera. Anyway, it looks great! Bet the kitties love their new place. :o)
Posted by: Bonnie at September 21, 2009 07:30 PM
Ha, I like how they came up with seven different ways to describe pretty much the same weather. I particularly like "less heat". Well, I suppose 95 degrees is less heat than 97 degrees.
Posted by: Donna at September 21, 2009 07:32 PM
I love your cats! I have 4 cats. I sobbed when I read your post about Roy. I was so glad I wasn't at work. ( I know it was a while back!) Yes, I'm from Tennessee.
Posted by: lisavol at September 21, 2009 07:59 PM
If you can't take the heat, move out of the Valley. Here in the South Bay we're in the 70's and 80's all week.
Posted by: par88 at September 21, 2009 08:56 PM
Wow...how about those ceilings! The news here is that the tourist season is over and the coast is clear all except for the mid 70's snow birders. Past one on the beach the other day with at shirt that said "You've been Naughty...now get in my room". Awesome wear for a great grandpa.
Posted by: earthyedgyunfiltered at September 21, 2009 09:05 PM
I love how, instead of simply saying "brutally hot" for each day, they try to find a different descriptor for each.
Posted by: Andrea (noricum) at September 21, 2009 09:14 PM
Love the creative labels. "red flag... sunny day... less heat." glad I don't live where 95 is less heat! stay cool!
Posted by: KT at September 21, 2009 09:18 PM
I guess "Fall" means "Fall down dead from the heat"...he, he.
Posted by: Anonymous at September 21, 2009 09:34 PM
I'd take the 103 for the 60's at night. Here in MIA there is only a 4 degree difference between the day high and the night low. So you have your choice of really hot and humid or just hot and humid.
W.:o)

OMG it's so hot there. CRAZY!
Posted by: Kerry at September 21, 2009 11:40 PM
Your cats are adorable. That is all.
Posted by: Marita at September 21, 2009 11:45 PM
Love the background in the shots, are you going to post pictures of your new place?
Posted by: chris at September 22, 2009 05:20 AM
too damn hot for me! your cats are adorable.
Posted by: petoskystone at September 22, 2009 07:20 AM
103? Really? Is that for THIS week? Dude.
Also - Yay house pictures! I can't wait to see everything when you get all unpacked and situated. I just got a new Pottery Barn catalog (which I usually throw away so I don't feel grouchy and unsatisfied with my distinctly craptastic stuff), and now I am all in the mood for Christmas trees and lights and wreaths and maybe also a new $1800 armoire. I just LOVE fall! Although, the 50 degree temps here definitely puts me in the mood more than a-hundred-and-freaking-three would.
Posted by: Deb at September 22, 2009 07:45 AM
My, but they do come up with a lot of ways to describe hot and sunny. My favorite is Friday: less heat.
Posted by: Barb at September 22, 2009 07:50 AM
What a beautiful place! Good for you! Looks like the kitty posse has settled in with visible bliss! Maybe they also know they won't have to hear the deadly buzzsaws of Francisco the tree assassin or the pumpkin killers anymore.
I feel lucky to be in CT, where our trees are now starting to turn pretty colors and pretty soon the turkeys will start wandering up the road. Not supposed to be a good year for pumpkins here, though.
