Cats on Stairs

Frankie peeks around the side.

Soba rules the top flight.

"Here, I'll come closer so you can get an action shot."

Bob. Probably the most accurate picture ... stuff stuff everywhere.

HURRAY!! Pictures of the new place!! Lovely carpet! So happy for you on your new place after the horror of the pumpkin massacre!!! (I gasped out loud when I read that!)
Cheers to the new chapter and new digs!

Hey, you have room to walk between the boxes and you know where your camera and computer are. You're ahead of the game. Me, I just finished housesitting for the past 9 days - which included looking after anywhere from 6 to 12 terriers (boarding kennel attached to house)while working half days last week and using the *free* time to varnish and sand repeat x 3 three flights of stairs.
This project does bring me significantly closer to the carpet free zone I and my allergies aspire to - the doc said "your carpet or your pets" - guess which I picked?
Congrats on the progress and on having cats emerging from hiding.

Looks like a really nice place, just from the railing on the stairs and the fact that the Stairs! Turn!
YAY!

Congrats on the new home! Your post about a "transition" place made me realize that I never meant to be in my current home as long as I have been, and really, there's nothing to keep me there. So I've decided I'm going to move within the next year (your week is an unbelieveable feat of achievement). Knowing this, I started the "Great Purge" this past weekend. Really, who should have clothing worn in the 80's hanging in the closet as if it might see the light of day?
Posted by: Dee at September 14, 2009 10:24 AM
Your new place looks beautiful! I am sure the kitties will be right at home before you know it. Can't wait to hear more updates - like, how much shorter and calmer your commute is these days! :)
Posted by: Tracy in Houston at September 14, 2009 10:30 AM
lovely stairs! Happy to see the kitties enjoying them.
By the way, because of your many tales of knitting while commuting, I decided to try my hand at it today... all I managed to do was unwind my yarn. Sigh. Maybe on the way back, I can actually start knitting.
Thank you!

Looks like the kitties are enjoying the stairs. Bet they think you moved just so they can have stairs to play on!!
I've lived in my current home waaaay too long...35 yrs. Do you know how much "stuff" accumulates during that time??? But, my husband completely refuses to even consider living anywhere else...

Posted by: Lucia at September 14, 2009 11:22 AM
Happy cats! The stairs are gorgeous! And I'm sure the rest of the place is too. I think stairs are crucial to cat happiness--they're so 3-dimensionally oriented. I'm so happy for you, finding your new place and making it happen like this! What an inspiration!

Posted by: Texas Jackie at September 14, 2009 11:26 AM
Soba seems ambivalent about her paparazzi (paparazza?): "Should I be aloof? Engage in a condescending manner? Attack?"

Love the ironwork on the stairs. Keep the pics coming, please. Perhaps the cats could be our tour guides through each room. :-)
Posted by: Barb K.M. at September 14, 2009 12:10 PM
What a pretty stairwell! The cats are going to love chasing each other up and down (Maybe not Bob, who's probably too laid back and sensible). And the imperial Soba will be able to adopt a perch of superiority and stare down at you, Frankie and Bob.
Posted by: Dana at September 14, 2009 12:11 PM
OHHHH! Envy. All that newness. All that cleanness. I want one!
Posted by: sheryl at September 14, 2009 12:19 PM
Your new place is sooo pretty! I'm going to be moving in the next 2 weeks or so. We're scheduled to close this coming Friday. I have to replace my banister, and yours is sooo pretty, maybe I'll get some scroll work like that!
Posted by: Rachael at September 14, 2009 12:21 PM
Kewl! I like the stairs! The carpet looks similar to the carpet we're thinking of getting (ours would be a different color) I'm glad to see how nice it looks on a real floor.
I cant wait to see more pictures. Hope the cats have fun helping you to show off the new place in pictures. :D
Posted by: ErinLindsey at September 14, 2009 12:29 PM
it won't be long before the kitties are racing up and down the stairs (in my experience, usually about 3 a.m.).
Glad you are getting settled in!

Posted by: Jean at September 14, 2009 01:03 PM
Okay Laurie, this is cruel - we need to see the rest of the place!! I just renewed the lease on my apartment, located on what I fondly call "prostitution road", and needless to say, it's not this pretty - I'm super jealous! Where are the pics of the kitchen and the bathroom, and the patio!! share, share!!
Posted by: Cyn at September 14, 2009 01:15 PM
Boxes may be there, but I'll still bet you had only about 25% of what you did on your last move. Stairs are so good for kitties - keeps 'em limber and allow for so many more hiding places.
I, too, cannot wait for more photos and think the idea of a tour of the new digs given by the cats would be quite admirable.
Posted by: Leslie at September 14, 2009 01:21 PM
The scroll work on the stairs is lovely! My cats love the stairs. Watch out though when your carrying laundry. The cats don't move from the stairs.
Posted by: Vikki at September 14, 2009 01:26 PM
Oh...you moved without me. I had an URI last week and any number of various ailments before that. I'm glad for your new home. It is dazzling and I really mean that. We have one bedroom and bath upstairs for guests since all the kids have moved on to their respective new homes. We keep this one bedroom for visits plus one other if more than one kid wants to visit. However, they are bigger now and 8 adults in one house is pretty much too many. Sometimes two in this house is too many. :)
I've watched you grow over the years I've been reading your blog. You have helped me understand a lot and to grow a bit my very own self. Thanks
Posted by: AmberStar at September 14, 2009 01:26 PM
I LOVE the new place . . . at least what I've seen of it. I can really see you and the kitties living there very happily. Can't wait to see more pictures and congratulations on the move!!!

So is the air in your new place less fearful for Bob?
It looks lovely. Will you be able to have a garden there? I'll have to go back and read your previous entry describing it.

Posted by: Sally at September 14, 2009 03:56 PM
Yeah! The kitties are not hiding under the bed, so they must like the new place...and it looks like they are enjoying running around on the stairs...good exercise for indoor cats:)
Posted by: chris at September 14, 2009 04:08 PM
When Harley, my roly-poly torty, runs down the stairs, it sounds like a herd of elephants. I figure she needs the exercise, though! And I barely hear the other two on the steps!
Your place looks great!

The new home looks so light and bright and clean. Do you have any outdoor space, like a balcony?? You could grow some veggies in a half barrel.
Enjoy settling in.

So ....... not only you that is going to become fitter. Nothing beats running up and down stairs, (and yes, that usually is in the wee small hours of the morning!) Keep up with the fun factor. Laura UK

From the little we can see, I think the new house is gorgeous. And, as always the cats are beautiful.
Posted by: Kathy at September 15, 2009 05:17 AM
C'est la guerre: one of the few ... maybe the ONLY thing I liked about my new place was the beautiful wooden bannister; it was like a piece of smooth sculpture, and it won my heart.
It was like a piece of smooth sculpture until the Rescue Cat who came to live with us because my furry son needed a brother and Axel needed a home. Turned out he was an acrobatic teenage cat (now a Great Big Acrobatic Grownup), and that beautiful wooden banister was his personal Parallel Bars and Rings. Watch out for the splinters, y'all.
I'm hoping that I'll be unpacked by the time you're unpacked, Laurie ... but I'm pretty sure you'll be done before I am!
The new home looks lovely - and the wrought iron is both very pretty, and a better choice than wood!
Posted by: La BellaDonna at September 15, 2009 05:22 AM
The cats say it was SO nice of you to get a place that's like a giant cat tree!
Posted by: alwen at September 15, 2009 06:45 AM
Wow you're in your new house. It must be frustrating to go to work when you have all that unpacking and organizing to do.
Posted by: shelly at September 15, 2009 07:59 AM
Long time reader, I took a break due to dial up over the summer. Catching up now, this is my first time ever posting, pretty sure. Laurie, you are really my hero. You're so brave, always moving forawrd, and this whirlwind move! Good for you. I hope Im half as luck when it comes time to find a real place to live next summer. Enjoy your dishwash, and just think! As much as the kitties love the stairs, it will be GREAT for your thighs. :D (You can tell yourself that when you start thinking "Why the heck did I want STAIRS?" as you haul things up and down, up and down.) Congradulations, dear.

Posted by: Jennifer at September 15, 2009 09:07 AM
I love the pretty scrollwork on your stairs. And I still have unpacked boxes after 4 years in this house. Must purchase shelves (boxes are mostly books and quilting fabric) and probably do a major purge. So next summer I won't have to buy a book I'm sure we have at least one copy of for my kids' summer reading but that I can't find b/c I'm tired of looking thru book boxes. (Did I mention that we have a lot of boxes of books?? And not enough bookshelves. SIGH)
Posted by: tish at September 15, 2009 09:16 AM
Well, that looks terrific. That move was meant to be, obviously.
I just want to mention that my 'temporary separation' basement suite morphed into a 'post divorce' suite and I was there 13 years. You are doing terrific!
I hope you are able to rest and the trip to work is a joy.

Those stairs will be great exercise for the cats. You also need to start practicing walking down those steps in dramatic style, wearing a gown, when a gentleman caller comes, like in Gone With the Wind.
