Crochet for dudes!

Congratulations to Drew on his very un-granny-square new book, The Crochet Dude's Designs for Guys: 30 Projects Men Will Love.

crochet-for-guys.gif

You can visit him in person and get a copy of his book on November 1, 2008 (a Saturday) at the lovely Yarntopia in Katy, Texas. They might ply you with wine. I just feel like I should tell ya'll. I was at Yarntopia about this time last year Sheryl and Amy are awesome and will maybe even have those INCREDIBLE Chick-Fil-A little biscuit bite-size sandwiches and let you drink champagne from the bottle. Or maybe that is only if you are introverted and trying to hide in the bathroom. ANYWAY on Saturday the first at 2 p.m. Drew will be signing books and doing some teaching of the fancier crochet techniques from the patterns. He's also going to be giving away a gift basket with some yarny goodies.

I'm so proud for Drew and happy for him, he's a talented guy and a kind soul and above all a beloved friend. He also will let you hide in the bathroom with a bottle of champagne if you really, really need to.

p.s. Not that there is anything wrong with the granny square.
p.p.s. Yes, we'll do a drawing for the book one day, but it isn't out yet! You can pre-order his book right here.

Yay Drew! Drew sounds like a great friend.

Yayyyy Drew!!! How AWESOME!! Since my twin crochets and we have lots of related males, this will be PERFECT for making Christmas gifts!

Thank you, Drew and thank YOU always, Madame Purl!!

Posted by: mctwin at October 8, 2008 09:35 AM

forgive my boldness...willl you be having a drawing for this book???

Posted by: Beth at October 8, 2008 09:39 AM

Any guy who calls himself the Crochet Dude has to be a fun guy!

Posted by: suetreiber at October 8, 2008 09:40 AM

mmm...chick-fil-a. my fave.

honestly, this book cover cracks me up.

Posted by: smokeyJoe at October 8, 2008 09:44 AM

Is that Drew on the book cover? Just wondering....

Y'all are an amazingly talented group of friends there.

Now I am totally craving Chick-fil-A.

Posted by: Sarah at October 8, 2008 09:49 AM

Texas is very far away. I might have to buy the book just for the cover, though.

Posted by: Lucia at October 8, 2008 09:49 AM

For a second I thought "How did Drew get Heath Ledger to pose for the cover?"

Great accomplishment - good luck on the book signing thing!

Posted by: tiff at October 8, 2008 09:53 AM

That is wonderful for Drew! I am starting an intermeditate knitting class tonight, and I really need to take a crochet class sometime. My mother tried to teach me, but I was unable to learn it from her. Maybe at the community college they can teach me next semester.

Posted by: AmberStar at October 8, 2008 09:57 AM

Too bad I can't make it to Texas for the signing...I may, however, buy a bottle of champagne. Although drinking it in my bathroom would definitely kill the mood.

Congrats, Drew! (Are you modeling on the inside too?)

Posted by: Kinnexa at October 8, 2008 09:59 AM

Awwww, that Drew. He is a clever fella, isn't he??

Posted by: trashalou at October 8, 2008 10:09 AM

WOO HOO DREW!!!! (hey, that rhymes!)
Congratulations and I can't wait to get the book! Thanks for sharing this with us, Laurie!

Posted by: Liz R at October 8, 2008 10:30 AM

Can't wait for this to be released! Woo!!

Posted by: Justin at October 8, 2008 10:36 AM

Yea, Drew! That is awesome!

(am now wondering if the champange/bathroom thing would fly at work. well, maybe, seeing as how I work in the finance industry...)

Someday I will learn to crochet. First I have to finish the hat (knitting) I started 6 months ago...(!)

Hi! I don't normally comment, but I lurk here often. I live in Houston so I had to comment since you made a shoutout to one of our LYSs. Yarntopia is a great shop, as you mentioned, and yes, the part about the wine is true. I hope to make it out for Drew's book signing.

Posted by: Jacey at October 8, 2008 10:47 AM

I love Drew's designs. He always comes up with some cool, unique way to use stitches, create garment shapes, etc. He is so talented! I was thrilled to see his sweater in the latest Interweave Crochet magazine, too. I so wish I lived near Yarntopia...sigh...

CAP, you never told us how you and Drew met and became friends. (Hint, hint.)
I crochet even more than I knit. (More hinting!)

Is Drew all recovered now from the scary hurricanes? Did his kitty cats get blown up into Kansas (uh-oh Toto, I dont think we're in Texas anymore)

Posted by: ErinLindsey at October 8, 2008 12:22 PM

Nothing mysterious, we met through a mutual friend. Glad everyone is excited about his book, it's going to be awesome... when I also learn how to crochet!! LOL

Posted by: Laurie at October 8, 2008 12:28 PM

Nothing mysterious, except that the mutual friend is Al Gore!!

Thanks for the kudos on the book everyone! =)

Remember when I tried to kiss Al and the Secret Service wanted to arrest me? Ah, good times....

Posted by: Laurie at October 8, 2008 12:41 PM

ALSO!!!! Why is it that two of my closest friends are crochet experts and no one will teach me to crochet??? TRAVESTY!!!

Posted by: Laurie at October 8, 2008 12:42 PM

Excuse me, I'm Canadian, but what the heck is Chick-Fil-A?
(If you tell me that, I'll tell you what a double-double is.)

Posted by: Julie at October 8, 2008 12:55 PM

Cool, crochet for guys :)

Blessings,

Sher

It's a chain restaurant that exists heavily in the south of the US. (I've also seen one in Philadelphia.. but we have none here in the center part of Pennsylavania). As to the type of food they serve.. that I can't say as I've sadly never eaten at one :/

Start with a slip knot....

Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at October 8, 2008 01:26 PM

I have friends like that, and they rock.

Posted by: Mattie at October 8, 2008 01:57 PM

Oh, and that guy on the cover is hot!!

Posted by: mattie at October 8, 2008 01:57 PM

Want to learn to crochet? All you have to do is come to Rockport. Massachusetts. I'll even let you drink champagne from the bottle. And we have cats!

Posted by: Maureen in Rockport at October 8, 2008 04:33 PM

Congratulations, Drew! When nice things happen to nice people, it's...really nice!!!

And to Maureen in Rockport: I would be happy to learn crocheting if it involves champagne in Rockport! :)

Posted by: quinn at October 8, 2008 04:40 PM

Chick-n-minis, piles of 'em, drizzled with honey butter--and mimosas to boot! (Amy and Sheryl really do know how throw a book signing, huh?)

Hmmm...as I recall it, Drew came to lend moral support to his pal when she came to Yarntopia to sign books...now, same said pal could return the favor, and in turn enjoy a totally no-stress visit to the shop! Hey, a girl can dream...

Posted by: Karen at October 8, 2008 05:31 PM

I *heart* dudes who crochet! Congratulations, Drew!

Posted by: Lucy at October 8, 2008 05:35 PM

Yay Drew! And yay for crochet!!

Posted by: Tami at October 8, 2008 05:44 PM

Oh wow a book! I love his patterns. So creative. Can't wait until it's out. yay for Drew!!

Posted by: Anita O. at October 8, 2008 06:06 PM

Oh this makes me want to remember how to crochet! I did it a bit in the early 70's but haven't since. I tried to knit a few years ago, but it was too hard! Haha all that counting. I need to find someone in Portland who is left handed to re-teach me to crochet. Yes I will do this again thanks to that oh so handsome book cover!

Posted by: Nancy P at October 8, 2008 07:25 PM

We did have fun, didn't we? I'm still listening to the funkadelic CD your burned for me.

We'd love to have you back anytime.
