Busy crazy week! Send wine!

Not much going on here ... just the catastrophic meltdown of the banking industry. Innerestingly enough the catbox still needs to be cleaned daily. And how are you?

Also! I talked to Drew finally yesterday and he is fine and his house is fine mostly but as his corner of Houston is still without power, he cannot actually update his website or you know, do anything at all requiring electricity. And I learned from him that a semi-frozen Hot Pocket only takes five minutes to cook on the grill. Good to know!

Since Drew has no power and cannot view the innernets I will take this opportunity as his best friend to share with you the Drew I know and love best:

That's the man!

Hot moms.........you can't beat them.

Here in the east part of Ohio, we had severe winds the other night and still have several residents without power.

We're not used to weather like that.

No witty comment, Just wanted to be first.

Posted by: Karen at September 18, 2008 09:16 AM

So glad to hear Drew is okay!

Posted by: Carrie at September 18, 2008 09:18 AM

you are such a giver!

Posted by: suetreiber at September 18, 2008 09:18 AM

Thanks for the update on Drew. What do you think is worse: hurricanes or earthquakes? All we have is blizzards. That just means we rent a couple of videos and make sure we have enough food for a couple of days.

BTW, I posted that Kale Soup recipe this week. It will only take about an hour to make it, so you can spend the rest of the weekend knitting.

Posted by: Betts at September 18, 2008 09:42 AM

Let him know that semi-frozen pizza does well too... along with pots of Spaghetti O's!

Posted by: Brandee Fondren at September 18, 2008 09:42 AM

thank you laurie for letting us know about drew.

Posted by: vickig at September 18, 2008 09:58 AM

We love you too, Drew. >:). And we're glad you're OK.

Maybe (checks pockets for loose change) I should buy cat-litter futures?

Posted by: Lucia at September 18, 2008 10:10 AM

Is Drew going to be peeved when he has electricity back and he goes through your archives and discovers that you posted this picture of him?!

Posted by: Gayle at September 18, 2008 10:11 AM

Drew - you're awesome! Glad you're ok. Do you love hot non-moms too? Thanks for the photo, Laurie.

Posted by: Janice at September 18, 2008 10:17 AM

Yeah, I had the same question about we non-hot mums?

Posted by: trashalou at September 18, 2008 10:23 AM

I'm glad that Drew is okay; thank for letting us know. I hope that things are going well at White Guys With Ties, Inc. It's a scary, scary time.

It's very good to know about the Hot Pockets. My kids appreciate the grilling option!

My cats unraveled a skein of Crystal Palace Iceland (in orange) while I was out this morning. All over my upstairs. They managed to get some in all four rooms and the bathroom.

Anyone want three very misbehaved orange tabby sisters?

Posted by: Liz R at September 18, 2008 10:24 AM

Glad to know Drew is OK. Is he grilling salad and veggies, so as to eat a balanced diet?

At least the banking problems give you something to put a positive spin on as you work. Pink flashing marquee (sp?) lights on their web page might make a meltdown look happy.

You're such a giving person...putting our entertainment before Drews feelings on the matter. Good to hear he's okay even if he is innernetless (the horror!). Did that not just sound like I know him!? Crazy...I just think I do cause you are a part of my daily reading/life and he's a part of yours therefor...ipso facto LOL

As to the cat litter clean-up stuff. There is always the automatic little box option. Funnily enough I happen to have one going cheap. Course that might tell you something about how I feel the bloody thing works...or not.

Posted by: J.S. at September 18, 2008 10:49 AM

I so meant litter and not little...sheeesh so much for saving time and not previewing.

Posted by: J.S. at September 18, 2008 10:51 AM

After seeing and reading about that storm hitting Texas and Ohio a few days ago I feel for those people there and I am still wondering if my relatives and friends are okay cause I not heard anything from them let alone can I even get through to them yet. My relatives and friends are in both states. :(

Posted by: Rosy at September 18, 2008 11:49 AM

I visited the Dude's blog yesterday and am glad to hear he's all right. It's got me wondering how you two met. I haven't been through all of your archives, but I'd love to hear the story if it hasn't been told before.

Has anyone tried that cat box that's been on the late-night ads lately? The one that's hooked up to your water system and washes itself out - including the little plastic litter pellets - every night? I'm curious about that one, I've heard not so great things about the automatic scooping boxes.

Posted by: Rayleen at September 18, 2008 12:17 PM

Well, geez! I knew Drew lives in Houston and I didn't even think to worry about him!
Maybe because I was watching tree limbs falling around my house. No real damage at Chez Litterbox, but it was too close! Some people here in NE Ohio are still without power. I think that was about the scariest wind storm I've ever seen here.

Posted by: TerryD at September 18, 2008 12:54 PM

Glad to hear Drew is O.K. I'm in Houston, too, and checked his web site as soon as I could. I'm one of the lucky ones - our power came back on Tuesday evening. After staring at the lighted porch light of the empty rent house across the street that had power on Sunday. Crazy ass storm. Houston is damaged - but Galveston is totally devastated.

Posted by: Rita at September 18, 2008 01:21 PM

Good to know about the hot pockets for next time. Luckily we were only without power for 6 hours. Others in town still are without, including several schools!

My FIL's brother from Orange didn't fare well at all, 3 feet of water in their home. They are here in Longview, filled out the FEMA stuff and just waiting.

Thanks for checking on Drew, love his shirt!!

The Drew-Smile could light up the night! Thanks for the pix.

Posted by: cecelia at September 18, 2008 01:56 PM

I'm glad you reported on Drew, thanks! I'd been wondering/worrying about him.

Geesh, I hadn't even considered your professional stability in light of the banking problems. I guess I just considered they'd only come after you right before they close the doors - isn't that the way it should be???

And I second the question - how did you two meet up? And how did Annie get into the picture too please (or was it through the book she & Drew co-authored)? Story! Story! Story! (please)

Posted by: Leslie in Mass. at September 18, 2008 03:14 PM

So. Do we send the wine to you? Or to Drew?

Or both?

(good thing you don't need electricity to open a bottle of wine)

Posted by: Linda L. at September 18, 2008 03:36 PM

I'm more interested in trying to read what is written on his door, and whether it is related at all to hot moms.

Posted by: Neil at September 18, 2008 03:46 PM

The first year I lived in my late 40's era farmhouse I had no stove. Pizza will cook on a grill provided that you have at least one neighbors 4 wheel drive truck parked in your yard outside the circle of lawn chairs surrounding said grill. It's best when eaten out of a cool whip bowl.

Posted by: schnoobie at September 18, 2008 04:22 PM

So glad you posted about Drew and that he's doing ok. I'm also curious. How DID you two meet?

Posted by: Norma at September 18, 2008 04:23 PM

I'm so glad Drew is fine. I've hoped you would let us know how he is doing. As I was watching all the horror of Ike, I wondered and prayed for him.

Posted by: Teresa (NC) at September 18, 2008 04:40 PM

Well, it's not the first time the banking industry has been in disarray. Best of luck during the troubles.

Oh heck, it's only money. Might I add - I've been looking at our cans of catfood with new eyes. You know, wondering how "Mixed Grill with Gravy" would taste on sourdough, with maybe dijon mustard? "Succulent Beef" with horseradish sauce? Just preparing, you know. Also - YES, glad to hear about Drew. MY SIL and family are in Houston too - they're dry but without electricity. He's a writer - but you know, there's always the "Ticonderoga #2 Word Processor" in a pinch.

Posted by: dale-harriet in WI at September 18, 2008 06:03 PM

Thanks for the Drew update - glad to know he is doing okay.

Posted by: tami at September 18, 2008 06:28 PM

Laurie, you grew up riding out hurricanes...you can ride out this financial craziness. Hope all is stable at your job. If not, come to Baton Rouge and help me open a yarn and spinning store! I have lots of cat food. And wine.

Posted by: dez at September 18, 2008 08:07 PM

SO glad to hear that Drew is doing alright.
And since so many others have mentioned it, how did you and Drew meet?

Posted by: Vanessa at September 18, 2008 09:23 PM

What is the address for Drew's blog?
