Winner & have a good weekend
Later, it occurred to me that perhaps "hey-to" is one of my made up-isms and so it might only be southern by proxy. I am not sure what it means when I can't tell real words from my own made-up words. Perhaps it means I should go into the dictionary-writing business!
Congrats to reader Annie, lucky comment number 230, who won the Karin Slaughter books. They're both awesome books, I know you will enjoy them! Have a great weekend everyone and hey-to your mama. Word. Peace out, etc.

Bob looks like he's weekend ready, but then again, doesn't he look like that everyday?
Have a great weekend Laurie. PS: good thing you weren't in love with John Edwards...shame...shame...your man Al wouldn't do anything like that..

He looks all ready for a relaxing weekend. I hope you get to have one, too.

Can he get any cuter??? I'm wondering if the other kittehs are a bit jealous though. There's sure been an awful lot of Bob on here lately!
Happy Weekend!

'Don't forget the Aerogard.' - you want a real colloquialism? Try have a good weekend on any Australian over 35 and you'll get the above response :-)

No worries on the "hey-to," girl. I tell people to say "hey-to" someone for me all the time.
Then again I am from Texas originally. :)
But seriously, to me it sounds a lot better to have someone say hey to somebody than to say hello to them or say hi to them. Maybe it just sounds southern, which in my book equals warmer and friendlier.
Hey to the kittehs. :D

Bob's too sexy for his paw.......

"Hey to" is completely Southern, and not made up. Although where I'm from it's "Tell your Momma I say Hey." And if you are straight up country, then it's "Y'all holler sometime, okay?"

Congratulations, Annie!!

Trust me - you did not make up the "hey-to" thing. Where I grew up in Piedmont NC, if you were having a conversation with someone and did not end it with "say hey to your Mama (Daddy, sister, brother, or whoever)for me" people would consider you rude, or wonder why you were angry with them. Congratulations to Annie...hum so now I'll have to BUY those books - better for Karin, I guess :)

I'm a northern girl and I sometimes use that little phrase. Or maybe I picked it up sometime in the many years I lived in the south?
It sure looks rough to be a kitty...

You're not imagining people using the "hey to", I do it all the time. And I'm from Minnesota, born, bred, raised. Maybe a Norwegian thing? And rather than acknowledge someone with a "hi" or "hello", it's usually a "hey!" Feel a little like "Gomer Pyle" sometimes!
Happy weekend to you and the fur kids!

Word. Peace out. Have a chill weekend.

In Mississippi and Georgia, where I was raised and went to grad school, we used to say that or "How is your mama and them?" Pronounced "How's ya mama 'nem?"
Sigh.
Now I'm homesick.
Hope your weekend has weather as beautiful as ours here in CT.

I must have missed the Hey to thing, but if it is like "Tell you mama I said Hey. " Well, that is surely Southern. Or "Say hey to your mama" It is late here and i need to sleep. After scrolling up some I see that many others have confirmed this for you already. :)

I get weekly emails from a recipe website and just got around to Thursdays. ANYWAY..it made me think of you!!! Here is the intro...
Sneaky Zucchini
Face it: even without a garden, there's just too much zucchini around. They multiply like mad and require some seriously creative thinking to cook. That's why August 8 is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night. But if you're still awash in summer squash after that, Allrecipes has plenty of delicious uses for this summer invasion...er, crops.
***SO sorry I didnt' let you know in time for the big zucchini holiday, but we can be prepared for next year.
Take care of you Laurie! *hugs*

Bob looks like I've felt all weekend. Sleepy!

Hey-to is not a made upism. We sed that phrase all the time when we lived in GA, and had never used it before. It's funny how adaptable our language is when you go to different parts of the country.

Comments are closed? Hmm, I was gonna comment on the "Love's fresh lemon"... my all time favorite
growing up! Oh, the worst (as far as I'm concerned) was 'heaven scent' (!) Gag! Nice name,
but who thought up that as a heavenly scent!!??
Smelled like it had hi notes of silver polish!
One memorable scent!
Hey..,Like your kitty critters., my tootsie (long hair black/brown) sends her mowie best!

i have a request: southern slang words have come to light here in the bank ops offices (NJ)....words of an alarming nature...like "wood pu**y". its a slang word for skunk, and had the entire office in an uproar for a good 45 minutes or so. i just looked in a websters new college dictionary and it in fact has "wood pu**y" listed. amazing!
since y'all are from the south, please, if you have the time and any inkling to do so, share any other unusual slang you grew up knowing.
