August 01, 2008

So NOW it is finally August first!

Really. Took you long enough to get here, August. Nice seeing you, fresh clean month.

Everyone loves the smell of freshly laundered months. And sheets.

Aww . . . great way to usher in the month. Clean sheets and Bob!

Posted by: Amanda at August 1, 2008 08:27 AM

Since when is August fresh and clean? LOL

I always considered it hot & muggy!

Love Bob, though :)

Posted by: beej at August 1, 2008 08:32 AM

Phew! We made it!!

Have a wonderful weekend, sweetie! Don't forget to RELAX!! (I'm sorry if I come off like a nervous mother; I just can't help worrying about you)(drive safely and don't forget about the clean underpants!) ;o)

Posted by: Liz R at August 1, 2008 08:39 AM

Ooohhhh! I like your night stand. I think I'll try something like that. Mine is just one skimpy drawer on legs - no shelves even.

Oh, and love Bob, of course!

Posted by: QuiltyBird at August 1, 2008 08:44 AM

I just love Bob. By the way, how do the kitties react when there is an earthquake?

Posted by: Debbie at August 1, 2008 08:46 AM

Happy August!

Where, by the way, are our horoscopes?

Posted by: Johann Mitchell at August 1, 2008 08:58 AM

Johann-

Don't you mean, "horror-scopes"?

LOL

Posted by: beej at August 1, 2008 09:02 AM

I have that exact same bookshelf at home. It's even on the same side of my bed! Do your cats rub their chins on it to mark it? Mine does just about every morning. Preferably with his butt about 2 inches from my face. Good morning to you, too!

April was my "please, Great Cannoli, let it be over soon," month this year. Actually, April seems to be that month every year. I've had car wrecks, lay offs, floods, tickets, painful and unwise surgeries, and all manner of crappiness in April. You'd think by now I'd have learned to duck and cover. Sadly, you'd be wrong.

Hope your August improves! (I was going to say "rocks," but after the recent earthquake, you've probably had enough of that for a while!)

whatcha readin ?

Posted by: suetreiber at August 1, 2008 09:29 AM

Laurie, I see your problem! You're leaving a book open and face down on the bed! As my mother would say (and here I am quoting my mother, yikes) that brings bad luck. And thanks for the pictures - I love seeing how other people decorate and have neat ideas for storage, etc. Plus I'm nosy that way.

Posted by: Cathy at August 1, 2008 09:31 AM

i love your serene, white reading place.

Posted by: smokeyJoe at August 1, 2008 09:37 AM

Clean sheets, a good book, and an adorable cat to snuggle with are the only known cure for the blahs. (I'm assuming the glass of wine is on the floor tucked away out of the photo....)

You are off to a good start.

Posted by: Sandy at August 1, 2008 09:39 AM

I love the Valley Scorch White Room we're inclined to create during the Summer blast furnace. Have a happy Friday! Have a best August!!!!

Posted by: JillieoftheValley at August 1, 2008 09:41 AM

Our cat is quite the sniffer as well. One of his nicknames is actually "the ring-tailed sniffer." We actually hold different things up to his nose just so he can smell them.

Posted by: Becky at August 1, 2008 09:43 AM

Hi Laurie, I'm a long time reader, never commenter! Love your blog and your words of wisdom. You've inspired me to break out of my hermittyness! And...Bob is totally cute!

Posted by: Gayle at August 1, 2008 09:50 AM

Amen, sister!

Posted by: Cookie at August 1, 2008 09:51 AM

I always have at least 2 books in that face down position on the other half of the bed...sure hope that Cathy is wrong about the bad luck! I was thinking though, in the spirit of "making room" for what you want in your life...that maybe I shouldn't put the books there b/c that is where the man would be sleeping (theoretially, if there was an actual man). Guess I'd better use my bedside table so there is room for the man!

Posted by: Anonymous at August 1, 2008 10:09 AM

Sorry that was me just now...

Posted by: aileen at August 1, 2008 10:09 AM

Here's to starting fresh! (And now I will add "open books on the bed" to my list of superstitions. Hats on the bed, purses on the floor... my list is getting long!)

Posted by: Jessica Star at August 1, 2008 10:12 AM

Anybody else wake up this morning wondering why you set your alarm to go off on Saturday morning at 5:30 am? Then reality hit.......ouch! It's only Friday :(

Posted by: Jane at August 1, 2008 10:12 AM

Happy August, Laurie! Great pic.

Posted by: Lesli at August 1, 2008 10:23 AM

Never put your hat on the bed, son, never put your hat on the bed, Cause if your hat's on the bed you might wake up dead, so don't you never put your hat on the bed...

This tune brought to you by Corb Lund (singer/songwriter) and by the month of August.

May it not suck.

Posted by: Julie at August 1, 2008 10:28 AM

Here, here. Or is it hear, hear?

Yes, the start of a new month is quite lovely.

Posted by: Cate at August 1, 2008 10:37 AM

yum... clean sheets :)

Posted by: TS at August 1, 2008 10:54 AM

OH that bed looks so good and with a snuggly cat too. You are a lucky woman and funny too!

Posted by: Josie at August 1, 2008 11:08 AM

Here's hoping that August goes better than July did. Or June. Or all of 2008 so far.

Hang in there, Laurie, and I will also . . .

Posted by: Liz J in Central Illinois at August 1, 2008 11:11 AM

My husband calls books and magazines left open like that "dead birds!" When my mother was alive and came to visit she would leave them all over my house, which would drive my slightly-OCD hubby crazy!

Posted by: Liz R at August 1, 2008 11:27 AM

Love how comfy the bed looks, and the cat is of course the perfect adornment.

Posted by: Jill S. at August 1, 2008 11:44 AM

I dont like August. My vision problems started in August of 2006, and so because of that, for me, August sucks.

But, I hope you have a happy August. Me, I'm waiting for December.

Posted by: ErinLindsey at August 1, 2008 11:52 AM

I don't mind the books being open face down (so long as the spine isn't cracked) it is when someone has folded down a corner - grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Posted by: trashalou at August 1, 2008 11:52 AM

Thought you might enjoy this kitty film:)

There is truly something magical about the start of a new month. It's like a mini-New Year's that you get twelve times a year.

Happy August, Laurie!

Posted by: Taylor at August 1, 2008 02:41 PM

Mmm, fresh new month yes ma'am! Have a lovely week-end.

Posted by: cecelia at August 1, 2008 03:07 PM

FOR REALLY AND FOR TRUE happy August 1st!

Posted by: AlliMack at August 1, 2008 03:23 PM

Sorry I cant say as I will be particularly enjoying the month because a friend of mine will be going in for a total masectomy sorry cant spell since she has breast cancer. Then again I cant say much for the month of February either because I managed to break my right ring finger and get the flu.
Do love the picture of Bob he does tend to enjoy fresh clean laundry lol. Such cuteness.

Posted by: Rebecca at August 1, 2008 06:27 PM

Hurrah for putting July to rest!! While mine wasn't as bad as some of y'all's (despite my retail hell job), it stunk...August has some promise; but, let's all start prayin now for NO hurricanes in Sept./Oct., which, I swear, is when they really start!!

Whoever posted abt. Ittybittykittycommittee, I'm now totally hooked & when I go out to PDX in Oct., I'm tempted to drive up to Tacoma & pick me up a kittypoo.

Hugs to all...especially our CAP!! K.

The caption of the photo should be:

:-P

I just stumbled upon this while looking at knitting blogs, and having four cats myself (though 21 and not yet divorced, or married, for that matter), I had to say your cats are FANTASTIC. Great cats and great pictures!!! :)

it's today (8/2) that always makes me pause to nod at life's crazy quirks....two divoreced marriages - both with 8/2 wedding anniversaries.

How did Bob manage to get the bed to himself?
Soba working on her manifesto in the office?

Posted by: k8 at August 2, 2008 05:32 PM

Is it funny that I saw a recipe for zucchini 'crab' cakes and thought of you first? Specifically because it mentions this recipe as a way to use up a 'bumper crop' of zucchini.

Posted by: Anjanette at August 3, 2008 09:49 AM

Someone may have already mentioned this before, but I think the perfect title for your next book would be "Cats Aren't Clutter" I spent much of the weekend reading old entries and notice you say this a lot (and its so true!). I also noticed many people commenting on working organizing into your next book storyline, so it would be appropriate.

Posted by: susie at August 4, 2008 07:12 AM

Laurie, have you ever given any thought to becoming a professional organizer? (I think it would be easier to do someone else's stuff than to do your own...). Then you wouldn't have to park at the Park & Ride and ride that pokey bus down to that glass building in an earthquake-prone city. You could make your own hours, wear what you want, etc. Just a thought!

Posted by: Toni at August 4, 2008 07:30 AM

There's nothing better than clean sheets, a cat with a striped tail, and a good book.

Posted by: Aimee at August 4, 2008 07:38 AM

I love my beloved kitty yesterday and for some reason this picture gave me comfort.

Posted by: Jill S. at August 4, 2008 07:52 AM

Posted by: Liz R at August 4, 2008 01:41 PM

omg thank you, DebH, for the funny funny YouTube link!! I was just about in tears there for a minute on the "let me in" one!!

I hope August is surpassing all y'all's expectations so far! :)
