Laundry Day cats
As soon as the towels come out of the dryer, they must be properly flattened and re-furred.

- - -
One feline takes charge of the laundry while the others watch in awe.

- - -
Not sure what went on in this room while I was away. Appears the battle of Waterloo commenced.

- - -
Laundry day is very exhausting.

Awwe, those cuties!!!

Hmmm. It appears my pack might get some competition in qualifying for the Lollympic Lolling Team. They've been putting in hours of practice, hours and hours of practice, to be sure they peak at just the right time. But yours might be nearly as dedicated.

They work hard for the money....
Posted by: Laurie at July 28, 2008 08:30 AM
It's not proper clean laundry unless it is covered in a few layers of cat fur huh?
My cat would much rather prefer finding random balls of yarn (and real wool, not the cheap stuff) and strew it around the entire apartment (also covering it in cat fur) and rendering it pretty much useless. Ah, cats...
Posted by: Marie at July 28, 2008 08:31 AM
Somehow what the cats love best to fur most is whatever my husband most wants non-furred. There really is nothing better than a furry towel when you get out of the shower...

Laurie, these are divine, lovely and awesome pictures for a Monday. Thanks for the smiles!!
Posted by: Lesli at July 28, 2008 09:01 AM
So cute.... :-)
But how do you stand all the cat fuzz???? It would make me mental if I just did laundry and THAT happened!
Posted by: Melissa at July 28, 2008 09:02 AM
ROFL! Baskets of ironing do not go unattended either, tho' that pressing is not the most fruitful.
Posted by: Carol at July 28, 2008 09:04 AM
Poor Bob...no warm towels for him.
:-(

Lint Roller
Posted by: Laurie at July 28, 2008 09:07 AM
This is precisely why my laundry gets folded the instant it departs the dryer. Not that doing so prevents the cat fur from magically floating the bathroom and clinging to the irresistible towels. It's merely a stalling tactic.
I love the pictures especially the "watching in awe" one.
Posted by: daisy mae at July 28, 2008 09:15 AM
They are so cute!!
Posted by: linda at July 28, 2008 09:19 AM
I'm just thankful they survived the battle!
Posted by: TS at July 28, 2008 09:29 AM
There is a cat sleeping in a laundry basket full of my (still sleeping) daughter's clean and still warm clothes outside her bedroom door as we speak. Cats and clean laundry are like magnets I think.
Great photos! I hope you had a great weekend!

....so hard for it, honey!
Posted by: Liz R at July 28, 2008 09:31 AM
My cats LOVE the nice, warm fluffy towels fresh from the dryer! It's a fight to get them away so I can fold them! :-)
Love the pics, Laurie - - so cute!

Love the 2nd pic of sobo looking out of the corner of her eye and of course Bob's awe.
thanks for monday kittie pic..
Posted by: laurie d at July 28, 2008 09:51 AM
this is why my towels live in the dryer!
Posted by: suetreiber at July 28, 2008 09:58 AM
I just love Soba's sassy smirk!
Posted by: Andree at July 28, 2008 10:01 AM
It's hard to imagine Bob tipping Soba over so I'll just think she got tipsy.
I have a wonderful photo of Perry P in the dryer! I check that machine out each time I use it - wouldn't want her tumbling around.

SO jealous that laundry day for you only entails a nice tiny basket.....
AND that you can do it without leaving your house.
Laundry day for me is pretty much a full-day outing involving duffle bags, cars, quarters and heavy lifting.
And no helper cats until I get back home, when I am too exhausted to keep them off the laundry bags. At least it gets them off the bed long enough for me to change the sheets.....
Posted by: LauraG at July 28, 2008 10:17 AM
Which one of the cats is reading Into the Wild?
Posted by: Debbie at July 28, 2008 10:20 AM
Ha! Mine doesn't even wait for it to hit the basket...he climbs right in the dryer and curls up!
As an aside, Laurie, I read The Butterfly Garden this weekend. I cannot believe what he endured. My heart just broke for him pretty much all the way through the book. I am so glad he came from that horrible experience to be the person he is today - doing all that wonderful work with and for children.
Posted by: Alli at July 28, 2008 10:25 AM
oooooh, sweet little Bob toes (first picture) and Soba's Curled Paw of Power (last picture)! Kitty paws are the best! Do yours like to make biscuits on the towels? Mine can't resist a freshly made-up bed, especially the part where the sheets and blankets float over the mattress!

Everyone loves fresh laundry. Sigh. Also I wanted to thank you for Friday's post. On Friday night after another stressful day at work and another fight with my husband I was able to say to myself. Well, at least my bus isn't on fire. And it was a comfort.
Posted by: Gwyneth at July 28, 2008 10:32 AM
I noticed the book "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer in the first photo. Another great recommendation for summer reading! I saw the movie months ago, and as the mother of a son that age, just recently steeled myself to read the book, dreading the ending. But it was a very well-done journalistic account, not maudlin at all, while still addressing the psychological/spiritual appeal of nature and the solitary, literary life. As a former English major and John Denver hippie, I related particularly well to the subject, but think it has universal appeal as well.

When we lived in an apartment, we had a neighbor cat that would "come in and play" with ours. One day we couldn't find him to send him home until we looked in the laundry basket in the closet. There he was, napping away...
Posted by: TimWarp at July 28, 2008 11:10 AM
At least no one poops on your clean towels. Yes, you read that right: investigating a mysterious odor in the upstairs hall that remained even after the cat box was clean, I discovered that Callie had POOPED ON MY CLEAN TOWELS.
Grrr.
Posted by: Lucia at July 28, 2008 11:31 AM
Ah yes, our lovely Carmen jumps right up and goes to sleep on the folded towels on the bathroom shelf. She seems to think that I place them there expressly for her comfort and pleasure to use as a cat bed.
Posted by: Anne at July 28, 2008 11:32 AM
On the laundry/feline front...
I recently discovered a queen size sheet had been transported across my kitchen from the laundry area by a 5 pound cat. I think perhaps she thought it was a waterbuffalo carcus but I can't be certain.
Posted by: cat at July 28, 2008 11:48 AM
Laurie - Is that the book 'Into the Wild' or the DVD? If it's the DVD, did you watch it? What did you think??? I loved it, it haunted me for weeks though! Obsessive as I am I researched Christopher McCandless' story for weeks afterward!
Posted by: Lori at July 28, 2008 12:08 PM
Your kitties always make me laugh. They're so expressive.
One of my kitties enjoys sleeping in the dirty clothes basket. She also finds her way into my teensy linen closet when I forget to shut it.
Posted by: Mary at July 28, 2008 12:10 PM
Apparently, clean laundry is both shocking! (Bob) and deeply serious (Sobakowa). One of my cats loves to sit on damp towels which his humans have just discarded after a shower, and both cats seem to think that the bathmat is the best lovey *ever*.
Posted by: Ann Rose at July 28, 2008 12:12 PM
It's the book, "Into The Wild" by John Krakauer. I think he is an amazing reporter/writer. I love that he doesn't dumb things down -- he has a great vocabulary and isn't afraid to use it. I have a pretty good grasp of the language but I had to reach for my dictionary a few times! I love that.
The story is really compelling, too. I wish I had the original version of the book, though, not the one with the movie image on the cover.
Posted by: Laurie at July 28, 2008 12:15 PM
My cat is so stupid she hasn't figured this little trick out yet. However, my daughter loves to bury herself in towels that have just come out of the dryer, regardless of how hot it may be out.
Posted by: Jennifer at July 28, 2008 12:20 PM
Heh, I love the expression on Bob's face in that second picture!
Posted by: Brigitte at July 28, 2008 12:23 PM
I just love you and these cats ( knitting too ) But I miss you so on the weekends ) 0; but will get over it lol anyhow yes the refuring is essential to proper cat life with humans and how dare we change the sent on the cloth and what happened to the old towels I left so furred and flat lol oh no Iam mad talking for the cat now Later lol from Mich Hnora lol
Posted by: hnora at July 28, 2008 12:49 PM
LOL! Same for me it just seems that if I fold something it has to be properly refurred by my fluffies as well.
I think in regards to the battle it might just have been and then instead of trying to get your basket back upright it just took too much effort to do and plus more comfortable as well.
Posted by: Rebecca at July 28, 2008 01:38 PM
Krakauer has some other great books too. One about Mt Everest and one about the Fundamentalist Sect of the Latter Day Saints.
He has a very matter of fact way of writing, allowing one to make up one's own mind and seek other sources rather than expressing a bias.

As a mom to 6 cats I am constantly challenged to find ways to keep things clean. It's high summer and shedding is off the charts and all over everything else. But we love our kitties!
Posted by: sheila at July 28, 2008 01:44 PM
Reminds me of Dr. Horrible's singalong blog: "Laundry day, see you there..."
I got the proper re-furring of my sheets last night when Carl just crawled into the warm sheet-cave and wouldn't budge even for a piece of pepperoni off the dinner pizza!
Posted by: Marilyn at July 28, 2008 01:44 PM
Aww, so cute! My cat is currently laying on my keyboard, trying to get noticed. :P

Ah...cats. It's what they do best. :)

Into the Wild is a great book and managed to translate really well into a movie. Though watch the movie after you finish the book, if you haven't seen it already. I really want to read Krakauer's book "Under the Banner of Heaven."
Every time I see a hippie hitch-hiking, I think of Chris. And it almost makes me want to stop and pick them up. 60 minutes and Fox news tend to keep me from hitting the brake though.
Posted by: Ariel at July 28, 2008 04:02 PM
Ah, yes. Even with the lint roller, I'm used to cat and dog fuzz being left behind after I towel off. LOVED Into the Wild - I thought he did such a great job of capturing what Chris McCandless was searching for... or capturing the search itself, without mocking it at all. I'm afraid to see the movie! Until I'm ready to cry.

Too funny!! I love your way with words and pictures
Posted by: Marlene at July 28, 2008 04:57 PM
Isn't it funny how everybody likes to sleep on clean sheets?
Posted by: Sheila at July 28, 2008 05:28 PM
I think I love Bob. I think I want to kidnap him. Good thing I'm on the other side of the continent.
I had a cat who once, and only once, decided to nap in the clothes dryer. My mom threw in a load of wet laundry, slammed the door, and pressed Start. There was a huge Ka-Thunk, Ka-Thunk from inside the dryer. Mom opened the door and out flew Mr. Tiger as though jet-propelled. I don't think his paws hit the floor for about 6 feet away.
Posted by: Maureen at July 28, 2008 07:19 PM
Is it too weird to admit that I have taken a nap on a pile of warm laundry?
Posted by: twinsetellen at July 28, 2008 07:24 PM
My kitties will occasionally "help" me put new sheets on the bed. Fun times chasing the "kitty lump" under the sheets! Ah! Kitty Sports!
Posted by: Stephanie at July 28, 2008 07:36 PM
I love your kitties!
Posted by: Pann at July 28, 2008 10:13 PM
Am I the only person who has a cat that shuns laundry in all its forms? Maximius doesn't like catnip either. Maybe he's just a fluffy alien..
Posted by: Samantha at July 28, 2008 10:14 PM
I like Soba's halo of laundry basket divinity in that last frame. (Thanks for the cute cat pics, Laurie. I live with a guy who's allergies to cats prevents me from adopting one but I need the occasional cat paw fix!)
Posted by: Flo at July 29, 2008 07:58 AM
I wish folding the towels and getting them in the bathroom cabinet would eliminate furry towels, but my older cat knows how to open the cabinet and make herself at home on the clean laundry. She also is fond of jumping in the dryer. When she was a kitten she even went for a tumble before I learned to always keep the dryer door closed unless I am loading or unloading. And her brush with death hasn't deterred her from jumping in while I am doing the laundry.

Heh, I just posted a cat laundry day thing on my blog too :)
