Get some rest this weekend!! Don't make come over there and take care of you!! Let the cats wait on you hand and foot (or is that paw and paw?) Enjoy, sweetie!

I just alove how Mr. Bob lets it all hang out! Thanks for sharing.

Have a wonderful weekend, Laurie.

That first photo reminds me of a trip I took last October. When I reached my destination, I found out my kitty had climbed in my suitcase the night before I left and had peed all over my clothes. She always gets mad when I leave her for a couple of days so that was her way of getting back at me. It worked. And now I always make sure my suitcase is fully zipped up if I pack the night before I go somewhere.

that bumper sticker is too funny - we just did a test drive on some VWs yesterday (not quite that vintage!) and I'm thinking it must be an automatic - let's just say I'm going to learn to drive a stick! Happy Friday!

I LOVE Bob! He looks like the sweetest kitty ever.

Posted by: alli at July 18, 2008 09:43 AM

Hahahaha! Who could get enough of that Bob?

Posted by: trashalou at July 18, 2008 09:49 AM

bob is a cutie... my cat is so scrawny... i wish she were bigger and more lovable like bob.

she is currently stalking me and sitting in my chair daring me to move my bag from under her.

Posted by: rhett at July 18, 2008 09:55 AM

I must be slow on the uptake-it took me several minutes to get the bumper sticker. Duh!
Oh how I love Bob. Have a great weekend :)

Posted by: suetreiber at July 18, 2008 09:58 AM

Bob looks like he knows how to unwind. When we had our kitties they were quick to hop in the suitcases as soon as opened. It was their reserved seating plan for the trip, I think.

Posted by: Robby at July 18, 2008 10:00 AM

Love today's pictures, but I'd like to see a picture of the dress you made, too! I liked the fabric you picked out.

Posted by: Rayleen at July 18, 2008 10:07 AM

The bumper sticker reminds me of a billboard I saw when the new VW Beetle came along. It said, "0-60? Yes."

I love that first Bob picture! And I get that last look, the enough-already look, from Pan all the time.

Love the bumper sticker.

Posted by: Yvonne at July 18, 2008 10:08 AM

Love the bumper sticker. I learned how to drive in a '67 VW bus and I remember feeling like I was flying along when I was only going 25. I think that was because the engine is in the back and you can really see the road from the driver's seat. I loved that car even though it had alternator problems (sometimes you had to get out at a stop sign, run around to the back and flip a lever so the car would run), had bad brakes (I once ran a stop sign on a steep hill because I forgot to slow down a block away) and only got 12 miles to the gallon.

I love funny bumpersnickers.

Have a helluva weekend!

My Carmichael kitty likes to lay on his back, almost exactly like Bob is doing in that one picture! They are SO cute when they show their kitty bellies! :-)

Beautiful pics, Laurie - - enjoy the weekend!

Hey! I know that volkswagon...I used to walk past it every day at an old job. Never met the owners, though.

I am impressed that Bob will sit next to something on the shelf and not shove it off with his paws for no other reason than to watch it shatter into a million pieces on the floor.

Posted by: Debbie at July 18, 2008 11:59 AM

I saw an almost identical VW bus today. With the same bumper sticker. How surreal!!!

Posted by: Sara at July 18, 2008 12:09 PM

I think our car might have some acceleration issues because initially I was pondering the significance of that bumper sticker "11 minutes? Hmm, sounds about right"

Posted by: Donna at July 18, 2008 12:35 PM

I can't get enough of Bob, either. He is hilarious!

Posted by: kmkat at July 18, 2008 01:14 PM

Hey! My bus resembles that! It is Husband-Man's first and only car. It's orange with a white top and the side panels have murals of Monument Valley. . . with saguaro cactus. Husband Man actually knows the guy who makes those bumper stickers. His name is Rex. He's from California. Great guy. He goes to Jerome every year for the big Volkswagen camp-out, the Jerome Jamboree.

Posted by: Taylor at July 18, 2008 01:17 PM

I see your cats love the camera as much as my dogs! :) Great pics!

Posted by: Nichole at July 18, 2008 01:25 PM

i just love your cats and the photos you share. your commentary on their thoughts always give me a chuckle. can't wait to see your dress too. i really enjoyed the fabric and the accessory photo. have a great weekend.

Posted by: lily's mom at July 18, 2008 02:16 PM

I love the photo of Frankie in the bag - my cat loves luggage as well!

Also - I think I have a new favorite bumper sticker! I have always dreamed of owning a VW bus one day. I'm going to have matching curtains in mine, and will drive (slowly) down the highway.
*sigh*

Happy Friday!

Posted by: Julianne at July 18, 2008 02:19 PM

My cat sleeps in my suitcase whenever it's open. She really likes it in general, it functions as a pawing post (since she's declawed) and a sleeping post. And the bumper sticker is hilarious!

Ah, a V-Dub bus, the only thing I miss about my exboyfriend....

I once got pulled over driving an old VW & got out of the ticket by convincing the officer there was NO WAY that particular vehicle could go that fast.

Man, those are some cute kitties!

Posted by: Carma at July 18, 2008 05:10 PM

Simon likes suitcases, too -- both laying in them and on them. I've been known to leave the suitcase out for a week or more because I felt bad taking it away from him!

And Bob! I love the picture with his arms hanging off the kitty condo!

Posted by: janna at July 18, 2008 05:11 PM

Such a handsome Bob! And pretty pretty girl Frankie. Have a great week-end and enjoy the daylight hours in your house for a change.

Finished "In the Woods" the other night, and I have to politely disagree with your assessment of the ending. While I admit I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't solve the older crime for us, I feel that event was a pivotal event in the main character's life, coloring everything he did, how he viewed the current crime, and how the reader viewed him. I think it was clear early enough on that the two crimes weren't related, and thus, to me at least, the later crime becomes the "main" crime, and therefore the one that should be solved. I don't think French broke her contract with the reader, and I found the main character to be sympathetic, nuanced, and intriguing. I think it's a shame people are basing their entire like or dislike of the book based on the ending, because to not read it solely for that reason is to miss a very creative and talented voice in fiction!

Posted by: Amanda at July 18, 2008 07:54 PM

Bob rocks. He's such a laid back, let's call in sick and just hang kind of guy. Frankie is too cute all packed up.

Love the bumper sticker! Sort of like our gutless wonder of a car. :)

Great pics! Bob has got the cutest tummy. Frankie is just like my Jasmine--gotta have her nose in everything. So what, does the Chairman Meow have the day off? LOL
Have a great weekend!

Awesome! It is so nice to see another cat who lays on their back. One of my cats used to do that until I believe I gave him a zerbert on his belly thankfully I was wearing my glasses because he was asleep and I scared the poor guy. I also love the VW bug sticker as well.

My parents used to have a VW Bus similar to that. I think ours was probably a year or two newer than that one, and it was green.

My dad was getting ready to take us to school, we were getting into the van, when I slammed the door...onto my dad's right hand. It was ice storming out at the time (and yes, they didnt cancel school!) My mom ended up having to drive my dad to the hospital (where he worked) to get him stitches in his hand and some x-rays. He was really pissed at me. At least we didnt have to go to school that day. My parents decided that they didnt want to drive us to school in the ice. So, they just dragged me and my sister to the ER so we could watch my dad get stitches.

I liked that VW Bus, until the Great Mouse Incident of 1981. We were driving along, and a mouse climbed out from behind the front passenger seat. My dad immediately pulled over in the parking lot of a mortuary, and the mouse jumped out, and my dad used an ice scraper to clean the nest out from behind the seat. (ewww! there were babies in it! yuck!) Sold the Bus a couple of days later. (I think this may be where I got my serious mouse phobia from. Learned it from my dad)

At least my dad left the mouse babies behind for their parent to take care of. But, yuck! I hate mice!!!!

Posted by: ErinLindsey at July 19, 2008 11:19 AM

oohhh that Bob is quite a cutie!

Got a LOL out of that VW sticker too- pretty sure I've been behind that guy (or at least a vehicle deserving of that sticker) more than once on the freeway;> .

You know, Laurie, you really need to rescue another cat. Your blog describes you as a "thirty-something (etc.) with four cats". In memory of Roy...

My cat does the opposite of the Sofakowa: he snuggles close, but he faces my body and places his paws against me. Always at least one little paw making sure his person is within reach!

I just showed my husband the pictures of Bob...he loved the second one of him on his kitty perch. He said "Check him out...King Bob."

Posted by: Jennifer Miles at July 19, 2008 05:56 PM

Oooooh Laurie, that Bus....my hubby and I had one several years ago, about the same age as that one....we took lots of 'road trips'...once from Seattle to Goleta, just took our sweet time, it was the best trip ever....I keep thinking I'd love to do it again, probably left best as a great memory...
Love the kittie pics...have a great weekend.

I know you're done with the book thing and 387 comments is a lot to wade through, but in case you have a chance to read this, I highly recommend James Michener's "The Source" for some summer reading. Not exactly light, but very enjoyable.

CAP, thank you SO much for a bit of funny and kitty pix, at the end of a very bad day. I just got home from my first cousin's funeral, she was my age and a real ballerina, and the damn cancer demon got her, and I put point shoes in her casket and cried as discreetly as I could, and when I got home I had to pour myself a whole lotta wine and have the REALLY big ugly cry ('cuz I had to keep it together for the eulogy), and I think I'm gonna have a lot more wine tonight and I may very well possibly be throwing up with Cooter Brown before this night is over, but thank you for the happy kitty pictures, and please give a little thought for Pam ...

OK now - see, one of my selfy-helpy kitty books says that cats who like on their backs like that, with it ALL hangin' out (or, in my Evangeline's case, "over") are absolutely secure, and are saying "You are my goddess and I have perfect faith in you". Also, admit it, people - all y'all who have cats that do that SNORGLE. No way to get out of it. Regarding that wonderful VW bus - I don't know if they still do, but someone used to have annual get-togethers of people who were born (or conceived - TMI!!) in VW buses. Seeing those guys still on the road makes me all over mushy for Ye Grande Auld Days.........
