Wednesday Winner!

Congrats to Lucia in Boston -- you know I believe Lucia has been reading this here website since 2004 and never won a single thing and I am so happy to say, YOU WON! Also, go buy a lotto ticket tonight, lady. You're on a winning streak :)

ALSO -- did ya'll know Lucia has FREE knitting patterns on the innernets? Go see!

That is about all I can write today because OH MY GOD. Work is hard. Apparently I can not just sit here and daydream about Zappos all day while multitasking with coffee-drinking, I have to get proverbial butt in non-metaphorical high gear. Sad, I tell you what.

But yay Lucia! Also, new winner tomorrow! Read about the sweepstakes if you haven't already, and enter to win right here.

If you have already entered your name is still good to go for the next drawing. Except Suzi, who already won. And Lucia. And Zappos.

I saw a commercial for Zappos the other day on tv. I told my dad that was where Crazy Aunt Purl buys her shoes.

He just looked at me like I was nuts, and went back to watching CSI when the commercial was over.

Okay, I was oing to ask about Zappos but then I read Erin's comment - now I know.

BTW, congrats Lucia.

Hi Laurie!

Have you read, "Eat, pray, Love?" The author took the advance for her book and lived on it for a year--sounds dreamy, no?

I keep trying to enter the sweepstakes, but nothing happens when I hit "submit" (on a Mac, tried both Firefox and Safari). I may have to give up.

Take care of yourself!

Woo hoo! Thanks, everyone! Why, yes, sir, Mr. Eastwood, I do feel lucky.

Has anyone else noticed something weird about the "green" Target bags that Target is selling?

I was in one of their stores last night, and was about to buy one of their bags when I noticed the bags have a weird chemical odor to them. Bad enough that I couldnt stand to touch them for long.

Plus, the fabric the bags are made out of feels incredibly cheap and not very sturdy feeling. Am I the only one who doesnt like their "green" bags?

I love the ones I got at Baker's (also known as "Kroger's") I'm going to buy another one from there to keep crochet and knitting stuff in.

Posted by: ErinLindsey at May 14, 2008 12:52 PM

Congratulations, Lucia!

ErinLindsey, I didn't even know Target had green bags - but if my Target ever gets them I may have to give them a wide berth. :)

If any of y'all live within range of a Meijer, they have a fantastic reusable bag - you can't believe how much it will hold! It just doesn't look that big, but the other day I got three boxes of cereal, a pound of deli ham, a big bottle of ReaLemon, two bars of soap, and a loaf of bread in there - and still had room.

Average Jane, I'm sorry you're having issues entering, I use Safari and Firefox for testing and I have had no problems at all. Can any other mac user verify this is a problem on mac?

Posted by: Laurie at May 14, 2008 01:18 PM

I have an unhealthy love for the really cute and fun prints that Whole Foods puts on their reusable bags. The "flour" bag, which I got for free (!) at a local street fair, got multiple compliments at Maryland Sheep and Wool, and no one will ever part me from my WF "Halloween" bag (candy corn! jack o' lanterns! bats!). For heavy-duty shopping, though, I go with a backpack -- so much easier and more convenient, but not as charming/cute as images of wheat and candy corn.

Zappos? What about Shoebuy and 123Shoes and...
congrats to the winner

Congrats Lucia.

Posted by: Micky at May 14, 2008 01:37 PM

Yay Lucia! I checked out her pretty knitting patterns too, but I see the word "cable" and those "OXOXO" grids and the brain.shuts.dowwwwwn. Yay garter stitch!

Posted by: Marilyn at May 14, 2008 01:37 PM

Sorry, Marilyn... try the Basketweave Scarf. No cables, no lace, just knit and purl. (The chart isn't even showing up. Must fix that.)

Posted by: Lucia at May 14, 2008 02:33 PM

I entered from a Mac using Safari with no problem.

Well, I think I had to click the button 3 or 4 times before it worked.

I've just upgraded from system 10.1 to 10.4, and a newer version of Safari came with it. While I had the earlier system, Safari wouldn't do a lot of things that it does now without a hiccup. Maybe the version of Safari is just an earlier one?

Also, I have a new blog and have 2 free patterns up, and expect to have more up soon at http://jam2day.blogspot.com/

Why don't you list blogs or sites with free knitting patterns?

Posted by: Johann Mitchell at May 14, 2008 03:33 PM

Johann, thanks for the mac answer. I have no idea when it comes to technical bugs...

In answer to your other question: it's because I would never be able to write my own diary, I would just be advertising other people's blogs all day and there would be no time for me to write, I'd be too busy fielding mail and comments about "Why did you leave my site out?" and "Why is mine listed below?" and "Please update this link..." and please make mine bold..." etc.

Besides, there are entire sites devoted to free knitting patterns that do it way better :) This is just a diary.

Congrats! Lucia!!!!

Posted by: Suzi at May 14, 2008 03:55 PM

Congratulations Lucia - glad you won the cute bags! Thanks Laurie for leaping back/forth from your non-metaphysical work to keep this thing going - wheeooo, multi-tasking!

Posted by: cecelia at May 14, 2008 04:03 PM

Johann, are you on Ravelry? There's a bit of a wait to get in (less than there used to be: there were over 20,000 people waiting when I signed up, and I think it took me about 6 weeks to get in), but once you are in you can put in as many patterns as you like and all Ravelers (over 120,000) can see them. Patterns can be either free or for sale. You can also link to your blog.

Posted by: Lucia at May 14, 2008 05:44 PM

So what about Julio?!

You are such a fickle girl.LOL...One day and he is already a memory. Oh well, it is probably better this way...

Posted by: Rhonda at May 14, 2008 06:19 PM

Congratulations, Lucia. I went to your lovely blog, great pictures, but couldn't get the picture to show on the Diamond Lace pattern. Is anyone else having this problem?

Posted by: Maureen at May 14, 2008 06:27 PM

You can chat with the CEO and other employees of Zappos on Twitter.com, you know ... and they give away free shoes every now and then too!

Posted by: LissaKay at May 14, 2008 09:19 PM

I've found so many great bloggers by reading this site. It's nice to meet so many great people. Thanks, Laurie!

Posted by: Windifer at May 14, 2008 10:27 PM

Why can't work be about knitting and drinking coffee? I am so good at both.

Posted by: alison at May 14, 2008 11:41 PM

Thanks Laurie for leaping back/forth from your non-metaphysical work to keep this thing going

Posted by: Rachel at May 15, 2008 03:26 AM

Thanks for the catch, Maureen, it's fixed now.

Posted by: Lucia at May 15, 2008 05:52 AM

congratulations to lucia but damn, i hope having a boston winner already doesn't ruin my chances.

Posted by: maryse at May 15, 2008 09:51 AM

I want to daydream about zappos or maybe a cute summer bag that is big enough to hold my knitting without being as big as my backpack (and with the bonus of not causing further back injury). I'll join you in daydreaming. Much more exciting!

Posted by: Seanna Lea at May 15, 2008 11:29 AM

Forget Zappos! DSW.com baby! you can see the stitching on the shoes, it's amazing. SHOE LOVE!
