Change of Email ... and moolah
Please update your address books, do people still have address books these days? From now on, please use the cool new email page if you need to email me. Or the cats. You can also find that link in the main navigation at the top right-hand side of this website, cleverly named E-Mail.
This new system is awesome and will help filter out the spam and hopefully help me improve my response time to email which is right now something like 2.75 years per letter. Or maybe I will still be slow and poor at corresponding, but either way it will filter out the spam and for that I am thrilled.
Also on the subject of change... have you noticed the changes to the five dollar bill? I got one the other day and I stared at it for a good long while wondering if I had just been slipped a fake fiver. Then with my massive powers of deductive reasoning I decided it must be REAL because no counterfeiter would go crazypants and make a bill with a giant purple 5 on the back. You'd never guess I work in the world of finance, would you?

I wondered if the new five was a fake the first time I saw it, too..It's kinda weird..
Posted by: Betsy at April 18, 2008 09:38 AM
I noticed the new five as well. Is this large print for all of us decrepit old baby boomers??
Have a great weekend, sweetie!
Posted by: Liz R at April 18, 2008 09:39 AM
I didn't even KNOW we could e-mail you.......or the cats.
Yes, the new sawbucks are kinda funky. Wonder what ole Abe would say.
sumpthin like........"gimme 5"
Weather here in OHIO is gonna be somewhat damp this weekend. Think I'll stay in and play with the cats.
You have a good 'un too, 'k?

We're getting closer and closer to Monopoly Money!!
Posted by: nifer at April 18, 2008 09:56 AM
Hey, other countries have had interesting and pretty money for years! Why shouldn't we? Okay, these new bills aren't pretty, exactly. I think we have a way to go until we reach pretty, or even moderately attractive, but at least it's a change! I want to see bills with American wildlife on them. Think of the new slang this could engender. "Hey, slip me a bison!" "Man, this drink cost me two coyotes!"
Posted by: Sarah R at April 18, 2008 10:13 AM
I have not seen the purple on five dollar bill....Mainly because with our current financial situation, we deal mostly with ones.
Interesting.

Welcome to the world of coloured money! We Canadians have lived with it for a long time, it kind of grows on you!

"no counterfeiter would go crazypants and make a bill with a giant purple 5 on the back"
That made me snort water out my nose and laugh hard at my desk. Thanks. No, really. ;-)
The first one i saw was last week. The guy i was with and i both kind of froze and stared. i work in finance too . . . *sigh*

I love the new email page, especially the menu that allows you to identify who/what you are. But is enough to be a french fry lover? What about condiment choices?
Posted by: Dagny at April 18, 2008 10:57 AM
I have been meaning to e-mail Bob for a while.
Posted by: Debbie at April 18, 2008 10:59 AM
I think the new $5 bill is hilarious. Every time I see one I pantomime Lincoln rolling over in his grave (though maybe his sense of style would like the purple five, so who knows!).
Posted by: Seanna Lea at April 18, 2008 11:02 AM
My kids and I have decided the new $5 was designed by Sesame Street - "One of these things is not like the other, three of things are kind of the same..."
Posted by: Guinifer at April 18, 2008 11:12 AM
I'd read about the new five the week it came out and was soooo excited when I finally got one the next week. Of course I brought it to our convenience store in the building to spend it and show it off. Unfortunately the store was mostly empty and it's staffed by the blind. So the moment was wasted.

Another man who isn't afraid to wear color! Gotta love Abe!
Posted by: Krista M at April 18, 2008 11:29 AM
"The postman has a large package."...indeedy...too funny thx
Posted by: Corrine at April 18, 2008 11:38 AM
Note Abe's face-flattering pose. He looks like a model with that fancy hairdo, too!
Posted by: Andree at April 18, 2008 11:39 AM
Heck, I work in finance, too, and the new $5 is news to me. I rarely watch TV, so wouldn't have seen it there, but I do listen to NPR--you'd think they would have mentioned it and described its purply goodness to me before now.
LOVE the new e-mail page. LOVE!
Posted by: Tara at April 18, 2008 12:20 PM
I like the new five quite well. It has purple on it - my favorite color.
Posted by: Dana F at April 18, 2008 12:33 PM
Yeah, the purple 5 confused me as well...
Posted by: suburbancorrespondent at April 18, 2008 12:39 PM
somebody in this country needs to redesign ALL the money IN DIFFERENT COLORS and remove ALL $1 bills.
how come other countries can have pretty money and we can't?
been sayin' this for 35 years now...just sayin'
Posted by: anne marie in philly at April 18, 2008 01:15 PM
The guy at the pet supply megastore didn't want to take my purple bill yesterday - that purple bill was all that stood between feline contentment with the litter box, or rejection - he took the 5, fresh litter's in the box, cats are pleased.
Posted by: Paula at April 18, 2008 01:53 PM
Hey! Thanks for having You are a: "Librarian" ! But now I'd have to choose, 'cos I'm a librarian who likes french fries . . . hmm, guess I'll just have to mix it up a bit. :)
Posted by: heidi at April 18, 2008 01:53 PM
My husband got one as change when he bought a train pass. The SAME machine wouldn't let him use it the next day to buy a ticket.
Posted by: Lisa at April 18, 2008 02:03 PM
I got one this weekend in Vegas... and guess what... the slot I was playing, wouldn't take it! Even Vegas is behind in the new money. If Vegas isn't prepared for the new bill... then nobody is!
Posted by: Cashmere Addict at April 18, 2008 02:03 PM
Yes, a big, purple, helvetica five. Very nice.
If you want to see pretty money, check out the new coinage that the Royal Mint will introduce:

Not true!! You emailed me back before the next phase of the moon began when I emailed you!! You're a great person to correspond with! Have a great weekend, kisses and snorgles to the kittys who snorgle. Deep, respectful bows to Soba.
Posted by: mctwin at April 18, 2008 02:11 PM
I got one the other day but the soda machine at work doesn't like them. I tried to talk to it, "It's a five, gimme a coke. Don't give me it back, gimme a coke." Sigh!
Posted by: kathleen2 at April 18, 2008 02:25 PM
I'm disappointed! i hadn't heard ANYTHING about the new fives!
And I got TWO five dollar bills in change today, and they looked like they had been printed when Lincoln was still around and heavily used since, so I haven't even seen a new one!
The REAL reason I'm writing is because sometime in the past (last summer?) you were looking for T-shirts with V-necks and REAL short sleeves (as opposed to cap sleeves).
Well, I found some, and you can, too, at http://www.womanwithin.com/clothing/All-American-Comfort-Perfect-V-neck-tee.aspx?PfId=35355&DeptId=15021&ProductTypeId=1&PurchaseType=0
Good luck, and I hope this helps.

You get all the fun in California.... here in Indiana I have yet to see a new fiver. But I was rattled out of my bed this morning a good hour before the alarm went off by an earthquake. Yes I was too! In INDY-FREAKING-ANA!!! Please, take it back, I don't like earthquakes!
Posted by: Risha at April 18, 2008 04:50 PM
Love the purple fives (not that I've had one of my own yet, but I met one two weeks ago) and the orangey tens, and the oddly different from what they used to be 20's.
America is beginning to feel like home to me eh?
Posted by: RobynR at April 18, 2008 04:54 PM
I love the email page, but how do I choose between librarian, knitter, and person who loves french fries?
I was going to mention our earthquake, but I see Risha beat me to it. Very freaky... earthquakes in Iowa (and Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, etc.) Next think you know, LA will have a tornado!
Posted by: janna at April 18, 2008 05:20 PM
With some difficulty I will refrain from emailing you just to see if the new thingie works and to say "hi, cats!" because that would not be a nice thing to do to an overwhelmed person.
I say the words "big purple 5" to myself and I'm reminded of the Wild Thornberries movie. Don't ask.
Posted by: Lucia at April 18, 2008 05:29 PM
Testing one two three. Testing one two three. Is THIS the email thingy? Oops, sorry. I'm slow to change.
Posted by: Neil at April 18, 2008 05:55 PM
I never seem to have cash, so thanks for the update on the fives. I would have been freaked out!
I need to compose a fun email to the cats!
Posted by: suetreiber at April 18, 2008 06:22 PM
Lucia, I didn't refrain myself at all. That's the first thing I did when I saw the new email, I had to try it out! Oops, well, my kitty took it upon himself first but I was right behind him!
I had NO idea that there was a new five! Really? I've been wondering for a long time if they were ever going to update it like they did with the 10 & 20. Cool! Can't wait to see one!
Posted by: Leeny at April 18, 2008 09:42 PM
I had a new five in my wallet today; totally looks like Monopoly money!
Posted by: Pants at April 18, 2008 10:01 PM
I asked a grocery cashier once what she thought about the "new" money. She said she likes it because it's easier to tell one denomination from another. Waiting to see the new five'er.
And thanks for your bumper sticker post yesterday. I like them also.
Posted by: Karen at April 18, 2008 10:49 PM
Like Lisa above, my local bus company is discovering the new fives aren't being accepted by the fare box.
Posted by: Kit at April 19, 2008 03:30 AM
just sayin' - from a visitor's p.o.v. an 'all THANK GOD you have made your money distinguishable. I used to have people queueing if I was tipping b/c I was giving away fives and tens thinking they were dollars!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: trashalou at April 19, 2008 04:22 AM
I wish they'd get someone who designs postage stamps to take a run at making pretty money. I've got some super Tiffany stamps right now. Something like that would be a joy to spend at Target!
Posted by: Trixie at April 19, 2008 05:25 AM
Purple? Really?
Posted by: Debbie at April 19, 2008 07:06 AM
We totally laughed at that new "5" when we got one-purple ginat 5? wha?? But a friend said "does it have microprinting on it?" about that silly purple 5 and lo and behold, there ARE some teensy words on the top of it-- so if you're a counterfeiter, don't forget the tiny words on the big cartoon purple 5!!
Posted by: Jody at April 19, 2008 06:00 PM
New money? You mean we don't have to clip pieces off the pieces of eight anymore? I found the other comments interesting; for MY part, being as I'm an Ancient Person, I like my plain ol' greenbacks. But - I'll reserve judgement until I lay my very own personable eyeballs on one. And the new e-mail? Posh! Just plain POSH! (Evangeline wants to write to Bob....)
Posted by: dale-harriet in WI at April 19, 2008 10:04 PM
Oh my! I hadn't seen the new fives yet till yesterday when I decided to set up at my local flea market to get rid of some unwanted stuff. A woman handed my hubby a new $5 and he turned and gave me a funny look while handing me the $5. I looked at it like it was on fire or something. I even tilted it so I could see if there was that strip in it or not! LMAO
The woman might of thought I was crazy or something.

Purple money, he he. Australia has had colourful money for years, its a great way of quickly iding whats what in your wallet/bag/portable dump
Posted by: Nicole at April 20, 2008 10:28 PM
I saw one of those new fivers - I got happy when I saw it. I just thought someone had stamped a five on it. That chunky letter and that color reminded me of the children's book (I own it and love it)'Harold and the Purple Crayon'.
Posted by: cecelia at April 21, 2008 10:38 AM
The first time we saw the new five dollar bill was in Disney. My daughter now refers to them as Mickey Money.
Posted by: Lynn at April 21, 2008 05:36 PM
I think the new five looks like it went through the laundry and something faded on it.
