RUN!
Posted by: cursingmama at March 11, 2008 09:14 AM
Bob will be no help; I heard he's afraid of the air. :) (Love you, Bob!)
That's some evil eye Soba's got. Run, Frankie!
Posted by: Anonymous at March 11, 2008 09:19 AM
Aw, Frankie, how I love ya. Let this be your last battlefield.
Posted by: Lucia at March 11, 2008 09:20 AM
That Soba is one EVIL cat! She reminds me of our majorly-psycho tortie cat Tiggy. She hated me with a passion and LUUUURVED my husband. The fucker would hiss at me when I walked by. She would sit there and stare at me like that. Damn thing lived 14 years. The stare, the evil eye ... spine tingling!!
Posted by: Terri at March 11, 2008 09:26 AM
Too freakin' funny! I don't have cats (I have a BIG dog) but if I did, they'd be sure to talk like your cats do!
Although I quite often talk for my dog. He kind of sounds like a hillbilly.
Posted by: Ronda at March 11, 2008 09:27 AM
It's funny and sad really, poor Soba has been maligned in the press. She's actually the only cat in the house who will let you pick her up and love on her, she ADORES people. She's very sweet to humans. She just really dislikes cats, as it turns out.
Posted by: laurie at March 11, 2008 09:28 AM
I have a Cat just like Soba - Her name is Delilah. I did not know when I got her she would hate the other two so much. She does however seem to like the Dog - Go figure...I think it is the coloring.

Yikes--cat watching cat--
that's not a evil eye it's just a lazy eye or the sun is shineing in it!
sweet face frankie--don't worry.
Posted by: laurie d 2 at March 11, 2008 09:53 AM
They are both beautiful cats, but Frankie has the most stunning face! Sooo purdy!
Posted by: Amanda at March 11, 2008 09:58 AM
YAY! You conquered the camera!
Those harlequin kittys are soooo adorable. I love you Frankie.
Seriously, thanks for giving the cute kitty fix.
Posted by: Love and Laughter,Amy at March 11, 2008 10:01 AM
Soba, didn't you know that Frankie needs her diva time? And don't you have a manifesto to work on or something?
*ducks the claws*
Posted by: Sadie at March 11, 2008 10:02 AM
Glad to see the kitties back front and center on your blog. I missed them!
(Bob is still my favorite --- gotta love a cat that does "run-bys" on the Christmas tree.
Posted by: Dee at March 11, 2008 10:09 AM
Laurie... your cats are so cute (and have a great vocabulary!). Every time you post pics of your cats it makes me wish I were not allergic to them so I could have one of my very own. I guess my two dogs will have to do! :-)
Posted by: Cashmere Addict at March 11, 2008 10:12 AM
Poor Frankie has to watch her back! I had two kitties years ago before my current one and the little black female was a Soba-wannabe. She harrassed the other one but he would get her back by chasing her around the house.
How sweet, Laurie, that Soba is such a people person, er, people cat! ;)
Posted by: leeny at March 11, 2008 10:12 AM
Aw, poor Soba, tiger on the outside, teddy bear on the inside.
Posted by: Courtney at March 11, 2008 10:13 AM
Courtney, that's my cat's name - Teddy Bear. heh.
Posted by: leeny at March 11, 2008 10:15 AM
Wow, that's one cranky looking face! Yes, there is always one kitty that must be the center of attention at all times. :)
Posted by: Heidi in MN at March 11, 2008 10:31 AM
Bob's no dummy!!! I'm just impressed that Soba allows Frankie on the bed at the same time!!!! However they do resemble each other.....maybe Frankie's the decoy.
Posted by: Lynn at March 11, 2008 10:32 AM
Wow, that Frankie is a beauty!! Soba has an inner beauty of "I'm so beautiful, it's scary!! RIGHT!!??" Thanks for the furry-kid pictures!!
*pets to all!*
Posted by: mctwin at March 11, 2008 10:40 AM
HAHAHAHAHA who needs cable when they have cats? i <3 kitties!
Posted by: courtney at March 11, 2008 10:40 AM
Soba reminds me a bit of Callie, except that her tail isn't frivolous and flouffy. (I can hear Soba now: NO part of me is frivolous, human. (In my mind Soba says "human" like a Ferengi: hoo-mahn.)) And I'll bet Soba doesn't do guerrilla warfare (= peeing on the bed).
Posted by: Lucia at March 11, 2008 10:45 AM
Perhaps Frankie is simply being the "Front Man" for camera training for the film crew. As there is difficulty with the focusing thing, Soba would certainly not want bad pictures of her to exist. Frankie therefore must be sacrificed in the name of mastering the camera usage. You see, it is all in Soba's master plan. But she must still maintain the impression of hating her subordinates. Isn't that the role of the unyielding ruler?
Cindi
(I have spent too much time with my cats haven't I?)
Posted by: Cindi at March 11, 2008 10:51 AM
Hee hee, I love when you caption the cat photos. Tell Frankie not to worry, I'm sure her human wouldn't really let Soba snipe her!
Posted by: Amy in StL at March 11, 2008 11:01 AM
You make me want to caption my cat photos. This would normally be a new low but nope! It fosters creativity. So, thank you, Laurie. Thank you.

"And I can't get no privacy!"
awesome song :-p
Posted by: Megan at March 11, 2008 11:12 AM
Isn't anyone going to call the authorities and save Frankie??
Posted by: Liz R at March 11, 2008 11:31 AM
Cat, my darling cat of the sweater contest fame, cannot abide being in the presence of any other animals. I have a suspicion that she might have somehow been involved in her sister's untimely demise...she seemed oddly unaffected by the absence of her companion since birth, in fact seemed glad to have all the attention to herself. We had houseguests of the feline and canine variety a couple of years ago, and normally mild-mannered Cat did nothing but hiss and glare at me. I have learned my lesson; Cat *is* the center of the universe and all who enter her domain would be wise to remember that.
Posted by: eve at March 11, 2008 11:58 AM
Hilarious!!! I have to keep reminding myself that Soba is Soba, and not my tortie cat. Either way, great tortietude.
Posted by: Amy at March 11, 2008 12:18 PM
Oh pretty Frankie, don't worry. I think the "evil eye" is really a "sleepy eye" misinterpreted. Still, keep your distance.
Posted by: Marilyn at March 11, 2008 12:25 PM
This conversation happens at my house all the time.
Just replace Frankie with a Jack Russell named Buddy.
Who is afraid of cats.
Posted by: suetreiber at March 11, 2008 01:08 PM
Our cat gives the evil eye to all strangers visiting the house. You'd be surprised how intimidating a one-eyed basilisk stare can be....
She is especially protective of my mother, who is recovering from knee replacement.

=^.^=
Kitty heaven! I'm so glad to hear that Soba adores people. In so many of her pictures, I would just love to snorgle her belly, pick her up, hug her and pet her and bow down to her Great Dictator-highness!
Posted by: Marlene at March 11, 2008 01:19 PM
love. this. post.
so much!
Poor misunderstood Soba. Poor fearful Frankie and Bob. Maybe they just need some sessions with a communications counselor??
Or just put a little vino in their kitty bowls and maybe it will produce some warm, lovey feelings. :)
or maybe that's just with me....
Posted by: Julianne at March 11, 2008 02:08 PM
Too funny! How's the manifesto coming?
Posted by: Mary in Virginia at March 11, 2008 02:13 PM
Thanks so much. I've had a rough few days and this really made me laugh. My late, great, Minnie was a Tortie and she could make the dogs run away with one look. She used to sit in the doorway of a room that our Pug was in and refuse to let him leave without ever touching him or moving. Just THAT look.
Posted by: Doreen at March 11, 2008 02:34 PM
Beautiful cats and great photos of the warm sun. Sobakowa does look as if she is reclining on her personal fur...? You are a very good cat photographer...my cats used to get up and come see me if I pointed a camera at them!!
Posted by: cecelia at March 11, 2008 03:31 PM
Due to severe allergies, I had to make the choice to NOT be a cat person several years ago.
That being said.
Your cats are freaking awesome.
Posted by: Natalie R at March 11, 2008 03:41 PM
Beautiful cats! And beautiful pictures!
They are both sweeties . . . (and Bob is, too!)
Posted by: Liz J in Central Illinois at March 11, 2008 04:01 PM
I think your next book should be pictures of your cats and the quotes you make up for them. It would be best seller.
Posted by: Jennifer at March 11, 2008 04:19 PM
Check out the last two pix. Don't they remind you of Bele and Lokai from that old Star Trek episode where the two dudes have half white/half black faces, except they're opposite?? Are Soba and Frankie forever locked in a struggle of hate and bigotry?
Posted by: LaDonna at March 11, 2008 04:29 PM
omgz they are totally awesome. My tortie is just hilarious, nothing evil at all. She has been working on the glare, but her constant burbles and rolling up to her brother ruin it all. These two dorks make our lives better. I had to send the pic of Soba to my husband at work--he loves them!
Other than that, I now have that song in my head!!! aghhhhhhhhhh!
Thanks for being cool, btw, it's been a while since I posted and expressed that. purrrrr
Posted by: KellyS at March 11, 2008 04:48 PM
I swear, you have the most beautiful cats...
Posted by: Shea at March 11, 2008 04:59 PM
I agree with the other commenters, love when you caption pictures of cats, people, anything. But I always look for a picture of the cats. Missed them.
Posted by: Maureen at March 11, 2008 07:05 PM
I too am familiar with this uneasy truce....the feline version of who gives in first and moves to another location. Probably with less padding and/or sunshine.
Posted by: Kim at March 11, 2008 07:37 PM
Ah, that Soba reminds me of our Kenya - there's just something about torties, isn't there?
Posted by: sue at March 11, 2008 08:24 PM
When my cat stares a young friend of mine chants "I am invisible to the cat, I am invisible to the cat." It hasn't worked. The cat still leaps in the lap, kneads with claws and sheds much hair. This is why we love them.
Posted by: Sharon at March 11, 2008 11:39 PM
I agree with all o' them ^ Torties really are stunning; as far as "the look" (which appears in literature as the "Paddington Hard Stare) I've never really had a cat that did it, but I was MYSELF the master of The Look. I had very well-behaved youngsters, who told me just recently that they recognized The Look and would never dare to act up. I asked them what they thought would happen - and they didn't know! Just knew they didn't want to find out. (Good thing they didn't try it, *I* didn't know either!) Also - they're now 42, 40 and 36...and The Look still gets their attention (though they seem to laugh, these days..........hmmm)

You just made my day with this post.
Posted by: Crafty Mom at March 12, 2008 12:40 AM
After all this time in the background the cats have had enough! Slowly, slowly Soba edges ever closer to overtaking the house in her first step to world domination!! Watch put L.A. - Encino Adjacent may become a war zone!
Posted by: trashalou at March 12, 2008 02:53 AM
looks like you're getting the hang of the kitty close-up with your new camera. :0)
mck.
Posted by: mckay at March 12, 2008 05:11 AM
hahaha! :D
Posted by: jasmine at March 12, 2008 07:15 AM
I love posts like this. For some reason I think it's hysterical when animals have captions. icanhascheezburger.com cracks me up every time.
Posted by: Red at March 12, 2008 07:27 AM
I think it's funny how some cats will let you pick them up and love them and others won't, but will jump up onto your lap and be petted. Then again, maybe it depends on the person picking them up. Carmen will let our daughter pick her up, love her, and carry her all over the house but if my husband or I pick her up, she wants right back down again.
Posted by: Anne at March 12, 2008 07:50 AM
I love Frankie's innocent look next to the Power-Hungry Megalomaniacal Soba. Yay, kitties!
Posted by: Nette at March 12, 2008 10:55 AM
They're both so pretty! I laughed out loud at the Soba "evil eye" photo.
