I do believe I have an account here. And a savings account. And a certificate of deposit.

Maybe later I will make a withdrawal.

I wish my town was big enough to have that franchise.

Posted by: Rayleen at February 26, 2008 09:12 AM

Do they count your change for free too? Sounds like my kind of bank!

Posted by: MBTemple at February 26, 2008 09:12 AM

Bet they give away something better than a free toaster when you open an account!

Posted by: SusannahS at February 26, 2008 09:18 AM

I wonder what kind of interest they give? Maybe a six-pack every quarter?

Posted by: Jenn with 2 Enns at February 26, 2008 09:19 AM

My retirement funds are found there.

Posted by: Courtney at February 26, 2008 09:21 AM

Thank goodness it's not a Blood Bank.

Posted by: Liz R at February 26, 2008 09:21 AM

I am with Liz R but I wasn't thinking blood!

Posted by: trashalou at February 26, 2008 09:23 AM

I have my account there too!

Posted by: Angela at February 26, 2008 09:23 AM

Is this the fabled Home of The Liquor Deliverers?
*sigh* maybe it's only a myth....

Posted by: Julianne at February 26, 2008 09:24 AM

I wonder if MA will ever have one of those. It wasn't so long ago that we finally got rid of the Blue Laws.

Posted by: Lucia at February 26, 2008 09:31 AM

Do they have a branch in Nebraska?

Posted by: ErinLindsey at February 26, 2008 09:32 AM

Now you just need one of the drive through liquor stores that we have, and all your alcoholic needs will be met!

Posted by: Ashley at February 26, 2008 09:39 AM

I've heard they have drive thrus in Arkansas

Posted by: Red at February 26, 2008 09:39 AM

Gives a whole new meaning to "I gotta run to the bank". :)

However, the best liquor store in my area was one who delivered! :)

Posted by: Tracie at February 26, 2008 09:47 AM

Very nice. I meant to tell you too, when you were in FL, that they have there a facility for alcohol fans who may be a little too imbibed, shall we say, to actually get out of their car to go into a store and purchase more liquer. It's called the Beverage Barn, and it's a drive thru liquer store. It's an orange barn thing, and you literally drive into it, sort of like a car wash, and you give them the $$ and they give you your stuff. I ask you, does it get any better than that? My dad always got the biggest kick out of them when he came down to visit, and would always say, "Only in FL!"

Posted by: Kathy in KS at February 26, 2008 09:57 AM

We have drive-thru Beverage Barns in Texas, too!

Posted by: jennifer at February 26, 2008 10:04 AM

Hey, we have a drive through in Canada! It's in a little town just outside of Vancouver in BC.
And I even used it once, just to say I had.
LOL!

Posted by: Tai at February 26, 2008 10:11 AM

I'm with Lucia...I live in MA as well and they finally got rid of the blue laws. In other words, no buying hooch from a liquor store on Sundays. It wasn't against the law to go to a bar and buy a drink on Sundays. So if you wanted to make sure you were stocked up for the weekend, you had to go buy your stash on Saturdays. It was a nightmare.

Posted by: Jennifer Miles at February 26, 2008 10:11 AM

Wow - - talk about your one-stop-shopping! :-)

Posted by: Liz J in Central Illinois at February 26, 2008 10:12 AM

Gah! NC needs some hooch privatization. We've got the gubmint stores, and no sales on Sunday. It makes being a functional drunk all that much MORe difficult.

Posted by: tiff at February 26, 2008 10:14 AM

I think I need a branch in my neighborhood.

Posted by: Dagny at February 26, 2008 10:46 AM

Who knew you could do all your Christmas shopping at a bank?

Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at February 26, 2008 11:22 AM

You know, I should just transfer all my bank business to that one. It would save so much time.

Posted by: Anna-Liza at February 26, 2008 11:22 AM

This place seems ripe for some sort of heist, doesn't it???????????? A spoof spy thriller seems in order....anyone got a video camera?

Posted by: Kim at February 26, 2008 11:54 AM

Hee!

Hey Laurie, in answer to your beret question from yesterday, I did a quick check on Ravelry, and saw that 20 people have already made it! Lots of great versions there -- check it out: http://tinyurl.com/yuso2z

:-)

Posted by: Mary in Virginia at February 26, 2008 12:12 PM

Hm, two in one, how convenient! I believe I, too, have an account there. ;)

Posted by: Leeny at February 26, 2008 12:21 PM

I should've made a huge deposit in there too!

I've got a smaller vino-investment at my house, which has almost matured (bottling soon!).

Posted by: Jelaina at February 26, 2008 12:33 PM

Is that the one on Vanowen? I could throw a rock from my yard and hit it. My 'hood.

Posted by: jillie at February 26, 2008 12:42 PM

I came across a drive thru liquor store in the Outer Banks NC - thought it was the best idea ever. AND it had a great name..."The Brew Thru". Of course I was 25 at the time so I had to buy the beer cozy that had the logo on it. Still have it!

Posted by: aileen at February 26, 2008 01:26 PM

In Fort Worth, TX we have a drive through frozen daiquiri place. Why, that can't be! Don't they have laws in Texas that state "no open containers". Yes, Virginia, they do, but if you put it in a seal-a-meal bag and don't poke your straw through it until you get home (wink-wink), you have not violated any laws!

Fuzzy Navel Daiquiri! Yum!

Posted by: Jane at February 26, 2008 01:34 PM

Hmm.... I sure hope they are FDIC-insured for your sake, Laurie! :)

Posted by: Heidi in MN at February 26, 2008 01:42 PM

I wish!

I live in an NC county that hasn't woken up from the repeal of the anti-alcohol amendment. (The bootleggers still run the county.) Therefore I have to drive at least 20 minutes to get mine! I wonder--if I invest in an "Alcohol Bank" in LA, will they deliver to the Right Coast?

Posted by: Robin at February 26, 2008 02:05 PM

I live in the "other" valley - the SGV - and while there aren't really drive thru liquor stores, there are drive thru convenience stores practically everywhere, where beer is sold, so you can drive thru to get your beer. (I've used them to get my ice cream fix late at night.) I did go to a drive thru liquor store in Phoenix, AZ once that had some damage on the drive thru side and those concrete pillars with multi-colored scrapes.

Posted by: indie.mom at February 26, 2008 02:19 PM

There are drive-thru liquor stores in Southern Illinois, too. I've driven through many a time. *ahem* The wineries there also have the sealed up bags that you can put half-used-up bottles of wine in to tote them home for later enjoyment. Just think: merlot on the go!

Posted by: Susan at February 26, 2008 03:04 PM

I think they send me a credit card application.
Sadly, it's a very long drive.

Posted by: suetreiber at February 26, 2008 04:00 PM

I am indescribably sad right now. I live in the Bible Belt. You get carded just to walk into a liquor store here. They aren't open on Sundays. They have ridiculous laws about how much you can buy. The stores are all controlled by the state. Half the counties are "dry." No really.

It's easier just to drink beer at home.

Posted by: Meg at February 26, 2008 04:03 PM

I got at least six emails today from concerned readers assuring me I need to seek the help of AA.

(!!!)

Lord have mercy.

Posted by: laurie at February 26, 2008 04:36 PM

If you come up to Seattle again, I'll bring you some of my hubby's homebrew. He does a GOOD JOB making beer! And I'll make brownies! But don't eat chocolate and drink beer together......icky!

Posted by: Alyson at February 26, 2008 06:28 PM

Laurie, that merely indicates your wide appeal...
Not just us winos read yuns.

Posted by: JillieoftheValley at February 26, 2008 06:37 PM

I changed a few of the numbers in your beret pattern, used thinner needles and worsted weight, and made a great beret!

The basic shape is sound.

Sometime before Monday, I'll try and post the ammended pattern on my blog.

Posted by: Johann at February 26, 2008 08:33 PM

In West Virginia they sell alcohol in the grocery stores and the local grocery store has a limit on what you can buy...
You can buy 4 six packs or 2 twelve packs of beer or up to 40 750ml bottles of wine. Now why limit the beer so much, but allow so much wine?

Posted by: Lynda Hitt at February 26, 2008 08:48 PM

Wow. Just be glad the other half is a bank, not a packaging supply store.

OK, that one might be a rather obscure reference...

Posted by: Jeanne B. at February 26, 2008 10:50 PM

I have a personal banker. Sadly, I have gone a step beyond.

Posted by: Lauren B at February 26, 2008 11:08 PM

Bossy doesn't deposit in the Liquor Bank, she only makes Withdrawals.

Posted by: Bossy at February 27, 2008 04:33 AM

Well, here in PA we have state stores that aren't open on Sunday, so you have to purchase your liquor, wine, etc. before Sunday. I don't know of any drive-thru liquor stores around here; wish I did!

In NY, they sell beer in the grocery store. My husband couldn't believe that until he saw it!

Posted by: Anne at February 27, 2008 05:41 AM

That is awesome. Here in VA we only have state-approved liquor stores...fun.

Posted by: Azar at February 27, 2008 05:48 AM

My husband and I always credit ourselves for keeping Pete Coors in business...Ha! Also, Delaware used to be dry on Sundays, but they had to repeal it because when they banned smoking in bars they lost a ton of revenue! Truth! Furthermore, I nearly passed out when I went on vacation in North Carolina and saw that you could get beer and wine in the supermarket! No can do in good old DE.

I used a lot of exclamation points, didn't I? Obviously I feel strongly about the subject of beer and wine.

Posted by: Krista M at February 27, 2008 06:00 AM

Kind of brings new meaning to "Honey, I'm going to the bank... be back later!!" LOL!!

Posted by: saucygrrl at February 27, 2008 06:41 AM

The comments are closed for the "beret goodness" post, so I'll put this here. I'm the one who makes stocking caps out of scrap yarn. I put a few photos on Flickr so you can check them out. Give one a whirl; they're rather addicting. (The best part is picking out the wild yarns!)

Posted by: cecelia at February 27, 2008 08:50 AM

I've got a great liquor store 2 blocks away. Life just hardly gets better than that.
