I get a real kick out of your blog. It makes me wonder if I would have anything to scrapbook about or to blog about if I was single with no children!? I'm sure I'd be much more boring! And I'd probably have a dog and not cats.

Happy New Year from Chez Cat Hair to Chez Purl!

Posted by: Susan Burroughs at December 31, 2007 01:12 PM

Hi Aunt Purl and all! Just wanted to say I found your website by searching on cat urethrotomy. Was trying to put the correct spelling on myspace page for a photo tag. My Sunni Bunni received a male to female sex change last summer. All went well until this summer and he had to be completely redone due to scar tissue! TALK ABOUT SCARED!!! Then I was to express his bladder. Turned out he can go on his own!!! You know the drill! Anyway after 2 to 3 more times to the vet to reopen his urethra "spot" he seems to be doing just fine! Knock on Wood! I LUV YOUR SITE!!!

Posted by: Vicki at December 31, 2007 01:20 PM

Oh no, Soba has infiltrated the fortress of my mind!! (Maybe she will now do my job for me...)

Happy New Year to you and the kitties!

Happy New Year back atcha!! Don't Party too Hearty tonight! May 2008 be peaceful and prosperous in every way for you and yours.

This NYE is bittersweet for us. We lost our Soshie kitty this morning. I'm trying not to think about it but find myself telling everyone.

Tomorrow will be Hoppin John Cajun style(seasoned with celery, onion, green pepper and cayenne) with collard greens and smoked pork over brown rice. That will help somewhat and knowing she isn't suffering does too. Ok, get me off this subject pleeeeeze.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Happy New Year to you!
A friend forwarded me your blog back in September, but I can't just come into a story (or a life) in the middle. It took many, many lunch hours, but after starting with your very first post, I am officially Up To Speed. It's been great getting to know you. You are truly inspiring :-)

Posted by: Raechelle at December 31, 2007 04:19 PM

Happiest of New Years, Laurie...Make 2008 Great...that's my mantra!!

You really have come into your own... may the butterfly write, love life and drink (V.C. champagne?) and continue to give us the chance to drink in your life with gratitude.

Well, back to the cheaper champagne & the (thank you Lord/Goddess) heated pool...would still rather be in PDX though.

Hugs, K.

"Happy flippin' new year"--my sentiments exactly!! Just got in from bringing my almost 90 year old stepdad home from the hospital and I have bronchitis--AGAIN! I will see the new year in looking at the underside of my down comforter and probably most of the new year day. However--I'm so grateful to still have my mom and my stepdad--he almost died--but he's a tough old geezer. laurie your writing is a bright spot in my day--it's so nice to hear there's someone else out there who is content with where she is in life right now and also has a sense of humor. Happy 2008 to you and the kids!

The best of 2008 to you (whatever that may be...you pick it) and greetings from my mouthy cat to your herd. I actually found the only copy of your book I have ever seen in these parts under a table and with a foot print embedded on a crinkled page. All this luck whilst looking for love at B&N in Albany, NY on the Saturday before Christmas. After about two paragraphs I said, "This girl and I were separated at birth". After purchasing the "bumped" (aka stepped on and slightly mashed)copy I took it home and put the kettle on for tea... and put the book on the other burner. Sadly, you can imagine the rest. The sights and smells and the sound of the smoke alarm bringing my neighbor running. Now I have, I believe, a unique copy with well roasted dark brown burn rings on the back. I also managed to vaporize the last five pages. What were they? But I love ya anyway. You make me (us) laugh and you give us the straight dope. Thanks so much, you made a rough year end oh so much better. Cheers!

Does anyone else think it's odd that you have two cats that have faces that are divided right down the center and that they are the exact opposite of each other? ONe is black/cream, and the other is cream/black.

I call it cream because it reminds me of the center orange creaminess that's in the middle of a cadbury cream egg...

Hi & happy new year to you and yours Laurie! I discovered your blog this year and read your book. I hope you are writing another one - you're a hoot!

I wanted to share this with all animal lovers, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple.. There is an animal rescue site that depends on clicks to get funding from advertisers... weird, but I hope it works. It's The Animal Rescue Site and it is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com

If you were wondering...

Snopes.com says this is legitimate!

Happy New Year. I have just received from Amazon and read your book in one sitting. It is very compelling. While there were so many intentionally funny lines in the book (I will never look at my Tupperware collection in the same way again...) I burst out laughing reading the hcibooks survey pasted in the middle of the book when I noticed it included one of those dreaded check boxes demanding an exact definition of one's singlehood (single? divorced? widowed?) as if it really mattered.

I found a big stack of the curved scratching things at our Target. I tried to get my MIL to get one for their cat. She bought the cheaper flat one. Glad to see your kitties are still enjoying theirs.
