Wednesday in Seattle ... see you Thursday in Portland!

Yesterday I was at work wondering if my laundry was doing itself (the answer, sadly, was no) (also, "doing itself" hahahahaha... sorry, I am twelve) and now I am packing to head off to Seattle and Portland and this is what I have in my suitcase so far:

1 curling iron
1 pair of bronze snakeskin boots
2 cats

So obviously I am really on top of things in the traveling department. Also, if I am not mistaken, the third cat is sitting on the warm laundry in the basket as we speak and covering everything with a fine patina of fur. Does it make me a crazy cat lady that I miss them when I'm gone? That is probably something I should put on my list of things not to tell potential dates.

So, this week brings even more opportunities to say the word "porn" in completely inappropriate conversational situations:

Wednesday, October 17, 7:00 PM
Barnes & Noble
600 Pine Street, Seattle, WA
[ click for Google Map ]

Thursday, October 18, 7:00 PM
Powell's Bookstore
3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton, OR, 97005
[ click for Google Map ]

I really hope to see you there, I'm going to be the one wearing black. At the yarn shop last weekend I wore a not-pit-concealing purple shirt and that was a bad idea. I am just saying is all. Also, how excited am I to be able to wear my HANDKNIT STUFF!!!! It's actually cold in the Northwest and I am prepared with many, many layers of handknit scarves. I hope I can fit everything in the suitcase. ("Yes, I am taking that GIANT suitcase for a three-day trip. It's how much over the weight limit? Really? BUT I NEED THAT POMPOM SCARF.") (etc.)

That is, if I can get the cats out of their new favorite sleeping spot. Just out of curiosity, does a tortie count as a carryon?

you put cats and pom-poms in the same suitcase and you're gonna have one heck of a mess by the time you get to Seattle!

Posted by: k8 at October 16, 2007 09:32 AM

Cats don't take kindly to the above-seat compartment. I still have the scars to prove it.

I am crawling through your book, making it last. I am so happy to see you referring to "potential dates". As the poster child for successful internet dating, I would be happy to send you tips. :)

Good luck with the rest of the tour.

P.S. Helpful Hint: Pack clean underwear!

Hi Laurie,

Congratulations on your continuing book tour. I was reading your post yesterday and all I could think was that you look really, really happy. And not just a wine induced happy. I'm so glad for you.

It's so interesting to see where our paths take us.

Hey...where is MonkeyGurrl? Is she ok? Is she hiding in the suitcase?

Posted by: Fianna at October 16, 2007 09:48 AM

I'm sure a tortie wouldn't even have to count as a carry on if you wrapped her around your neck and swore that she was a hand knit scarf.

Posted by: TamiW at October 16, 2007 09:49 AM

it's raining here.

just saying.

>^..^<

Posted by: smokeyJoe at October 16, 2007 09:53 AM

OMG I forgot about rain! REAL weather!!!

Posted by: laurie at October 16, 2007 09:54 AM

The idea of trying to carry my tortie anywhere is laughable. She hates, hates, hates the fact that she is portable.

Posted by: Monique in TX at October 16, 2007 09:56 AM

Just to up the "crazy cat lady" ante - I take little videos of my cats on my cell phone and/or camera to watch when I'm traveling. Helps when I miss them!

Posted by: Jill at October 16, 2007 09:58 AM

It is NOT raining here in the Triangle. Come on over!

If you can stuff the cat full of knitwear then maybe it'd count as a carry-on. I do not recommend this, as there is probably NO hairball medication that will solve the inevitable issues that would be the result of a yarn-ful kitty.

Or is that far too practical?

Posted by: tiff at October 16, 2007 09:59 AM

Hi Laurie - Enjoyed your book and am inspired to knit with some bulky yarn (and placed my order to Supercrafty yesterday for Halloween Beanie supplies). I read your blog for awhile (I was a late starter) in confusion because I thought it was a knitting blog, but didn't see much knitting. Love the horoscopes though and now that I have read the archives I see the knitting and have been wearing out the back of the book looking at pictures and patterns. Thanks for all the inspiration....and I hope there will be many more books.

Posted by: Sherilan at October 16, 2007 10:00 AM

I see Jill's crazy cat lady and up it to bringing your cats to live in the hotel with you.

Posted by: Fianna at October 16, 2007 10:08 AM

Laurie, I totally miss my cats when I go away (though I try to tell myself to enjoy the break from litter-box cleaning and so on). To help me realize how much I missed them, they stick to me like glue for a couple of weeks after I get back, even if I was only gone for a weekend.

Monique, I am so calling my cats "portable" from now on!

Posted by: ccr in MA at October 16, 2007 10:13 AM

I HATE leaving my cats. I miss them the second I step out the door every morning, let alone when I'm gone overnight. (I turned down a chance for a job in Paris because I wouldn't have been able to take my cat Carl with me.)

Posted by: Marilyn at October 16, 2007 10:14 AM

I just finished your book, Laurie, and really really enjoyed it. I laughed and cried. You're such a good writer and I'm happy for your success.

Any chance of your book tour coming to Baltimore?

Posted by: Kathy at October 16, 2007 10:20 AM

Laurie, I would TOTALLY come out and grab a book and meet for the sigming you if you were heading to Portland instead of BEAVERTON. UGH. I don't drive on the West Side, it's a total flippin' ever lovin' nightmare. especially on a week night.

I hope your signing goes well!!!!

Posted by: Jessica C. at October 16, 2007 10:21 AM

Make sure to bring your rain gear to the beautiful NW. He're in Portland we're expecting rain for the next 10 days, though I gather we'll get more rain then that, but they'd rather give the forcast in small doses. Saying it's going to rain for the next 6 months might scare people a little.

Sadly I can't make your Portland-area reading, since I'll be busy being a responsible mom. What a bummer. Hope you get time to tour around our city- and hopefully a visit to the real Powell's downtown. Nothing against Beaverton, but it just isn't Portland, and there isn't anywhere like the Powell's City of Books downtown.

Posted by: Liz at October 16, 2007 10:26 AM

Hubby and I went away for 5 days and ever since we got back the Wee Beasties have made it a point to sit on our suitcases and glare at us. Alternately, they velcro themselves to us when we sit down.

And, to my surprise, my no emotions what so ever Hubby was saying he missed the cats by day 2 of the trip. Fortunately, our friends cat Lenore LOVES him and was his own personal lap cat.

Come to Pittsburgh! Please! I promise it's not smokey anymore and it's kind of chilly this time of year (usually) so you can wear knitted stuff!

Posted by: heidi at October 16, 2007 10:34 AM

i will brave the drive to beaverton, but only for CAP. nothing and nobody else could induce me to go to the westside. i figure if i leave at 5:00 i might get there in time.

pdx joke: why do people on the west side go to the east side?

to get their stuff back.

Posted by: smokeyJoe at October 16, 2007 10:34 AM

I think you just need a tortie tote. No, you aren't weird for missing your cats. I miss mine too. Though, perhaps oddly, I usually don't realize just how much I missed them until I return to them.

Posted by: Kristen at October 16, 2007 10:36 AM

I've often wondered if my sheltie counts as a carry on. I think if I knit some straps out of his excess fur and wrapped them about his middle, I could pass him off as luggage. Hmmm, maybe I've thought about this too much.

Posted by: Amy in StL at October 16, 2007 10:39 AM

I am so pleased for you...that you are having a such a great time and successful book launching. And no you are definitely not crazy to miss your cats while gone. Back when i could afford things like vacations and cat kennels, I used to call said cat kennel and ask them to let me speak to my cats...and they happily complied!

Posted by: Beverly at October 16, 2007 10:40 AM

Posted by: Patricia at October 16, 2007 10:46 AM

Currently 37 Degrees (farenheit!!!) in big old Minnesota. I'd say bring extra scarves, possibly even a pumpkin-type hat.

Also- would it be too much to ask if you could just make a stop on the WESTERN side of Mn? ...and bring your hot brother!!!!

heh....didn't thinkso.

Posted by: Nikki at October 16, 2007 10:49 AM

Laurie, I noticed there are no locations planned for State College, Pennsylvania! We have cold!! And college football! And wine! Did I mention we have cold???

Posted by: Justin at October 16, 2007 10:54 AM

Tortie as carry-on? Definitely but only if wearing handmade cat sweater.

Posted by: trashalou at October 16, 2007 10:58 AM

lots of weather in detroit. Some good, some not so good.
I would entertain your cats, even.

Posted by: suetreiber at October 16, 2007 11:03 AM

If you have cats, any sweater is a handmade cat sweater.

Just TRY to get all the cat hair off.

Loved the flikr pics. Just seeing pics of your family gives me the impression that I could sit amongst them and blend in. I love those kinds of peoples.

Peace and chicken grease

Posted by: Shari from Ohio at October 16, 2007 11:14 AM

Luckily, you missed the BIG RAIN here in Houston.

I think torties would count as more than one carry on, unfortunately. One for the sweet cat that follows "mommy" around, one for the wild cat that runs around the house and one for the mean cat that doesn't let anyone else touch her. (At least that's how it would be with mine).

Posted by: Kat with a K at October 16, 2007 11:15 AM

Yay!!
See you in Seattle! I'll bring my brother if you bring yours!! Mine is single and attractive. I'm married, so your brothers would be strictly for looks only. :) And, bring the boots-they sound awesome! The kitties-they may not enjoy the rain. Or the plane ride.

Posted by: Heidi at October 16, 2007 11:20 AM

There was a story in the news a few months ago about a Canadian woman on a business trip. When her carry-on bag was going through the X-ray, the guard said, "I can't tell what this big thing is in your bag. You don't have a turkey in there, do you?" The sensible Canadian lady said, "No, ha ha ha, why would I have a turkey in my bag?" When she got to the hotel room at her destination, she opened up the bag -- and out hopped her cat, none the worse for wear. He'd slipped into the bag at her house when she wasn't paying attention.

So it can happen.

Posted by: sizzle at October 16, 2007 11:28 AM

You are not officially a Crazy Cat Lady until you call home and leave messages for the cats on your answering machine on the ground that they will be less upset by your absence if they can hear your voice.

Assuming you have an old school answering machine (instead of voicemail) that you bought specifically for the purpose of leaving messages for your cats.

Not that I would know anything about that. Ahem.

Posted by: tammy at October 16, 2007 11:28 AM

Posted by: Kimberly at October 16, 2007 11:38 AM

What is it with cats and suitcases? Maybe it's just the cat-sleeping-container thing. Mine like to sleep in the hard-sided kind but pee in duffels (and you thought the sleeping was annoying).

Missing them does not make you a crazy cat lady, or no crazier than I am, anyway. (You may not find this much consolation.) Have they ever found your car keys for you?

Posted by: robinv at October 16, 2007 12:00 PM

Posted by: Jenn at October 16, 2007 12:09 PM

I've done a lot of traveling for work and I can agree with the following observations:

1) Cats love suitcases
2) I always miss them when I'm gone. It's worst the first night. By the second night I'm enjoying having the bed all to myself. But then when I'm almost home, I can't wait to see them again. I like to think the feeling is mutual. :-)

Have fun in the Pacific NW -- my favorite part of the country!

Posted by: Mary in Virginia at October 16, 2007 12:13 PM

Laurie, I hope someone is giving you a little tour of the real Portland (not Beaverton, which has its merits, don't get me wrong, but Portland is in a whole different category). I'm really looking forward to meeting you! Yes, it's raining here. . . cool enough for handknit sweaters, scarves, & even fingerless gloves & hats, if you're from LA.

The next time you write a book, I bet you'll be at the real Powell's on Burnside--I have a feeling you're going to pack the house on Thursday.

Posted by: hellahelen at October 16, 2007 12:17 PM

Thanks for sharing the pics, I really wanted to go but had to work so it was nice to see the pics. You look so happy and cute and your bangless hair looked great! Oh yeah, and your brothers? Whoa!

Gosh, Laurie - wish you were visiting the Hawthorne branch of Powell's in Portland. We are so proud of our diversity, some people call this area the center of the "Keep Portland Weird" movement(?) As to kitties! I miss my feline companion the minute I walk out the door to go shopping, for cat's sake! So, how do you travel with two cats? As personal carry-ons or in the(shudder) baggage compartment. So, is Bob the stay-at-home? and if so, how do Frankie and The Soba share their new experience?

Oh my - - I guess I DO qualify as a 'crazy cat lady' - -

When Dear Hubby and I leave for a vacation, I have been known to call and leave messages on our answering machine to the kitty-kids . . .

(But mostly to mess with my Russian Blue's head - - we laugh our butts off picturing him running around the house looking for us when he hears the "Kitty, Kitty, Kitty" on the answering machine!)

Yes, we are twelve . . . :-)

Well, if you were to place the tortie *inside* your carryon, she wouldn't count as an extra. I can't say what might happen to anything else that's inside the carryon with her, of course.

I have so many pictures of my Sammie in suitcases! I always thought she was begging me to take her along when I traveled because I was her favorite human (she much preferred me to the ex). So, it could just be that "cat loves enclosed spaces" thing, but I prefer to think that she didn't want me to leave. (bolstered by the argument that later, when she was sick, she would get sick when I started packing, rather than wait until I was actually gone - she knew what the suitcase meant!) (oh and the guilt!! she didn't buy the "but I'm traveling for work which is what pays for your expensive special sick-kitty food" argument.)

So many of us crazy cat ladies! I miss my kitty, too, when I'm gone. Even at work. We're going to my brother's in Denver for Thanksgiving and I am having slight anxiety about leaving Teddy. But he will be in a very good place so I should put myself at ease.

Have you ever heard that you should wear the same shirt several days in a row so that your cat can have your smell while you're away? What I do is wear a tank top several nights in a row for Teddy. I don't want to be wearing the same thing during the DAY every day so I do it at night.

Love your flickr pics!

Our cats do not like it when we get our suitcases out. They purposely sit in them while we're trying to pack. When that fails, they lay against the front door.

I spent nearly 8 weeks away from home this summer. I would go through photos on my laptop when I began missing them. I was worried they would forget me while I was gone...but my first night back I didn't get any sleep - they both had to be laying on me at the same time. The next 2 days they followed me from room to room.

I keep telling DH we need to teach them how to answer the phone so we can call them when we're gone. If a cat can dial 911...

Some cats do the velcro act when Mommy gets home; some, whose name I won't mention but his initials were O-T-H-E-L-L-O made a point to climb onto the Hudsons Bay blanket when we got home, peer straight into our eyes, and PEE. "Accident"? I think NOT. But Evangeline and Lilliane will still have their Da, and the Daughter's arranged care for Taki, on account of WE ARE SO COMING TO SEE YOU IN MPLS!! Posted by: Deb at October 16, 2007 06:05 PM

I consulted my torties about the carry on issue. They assure me that not only are torties not counted as carry ons, the airline will pay them to fly first class on your flight, because it's such an honor to have a tortie on board. You, however, may be relegated to the overhead compartment. After all, you're a mere human.

BTW, I think you need a new agent - what agent wouldn't get you a gig in Honolulu (and hey, yeah, I'd even drive from Kaneohe to Honolulu to attend your book signing. Even tho, OMIGOSH I'd have to drive ACROSS the mountain THRU a tunnel to get from Kaneohe to Honolulu).

Welcome to Seattle! I'm looking forward to seeing you in our blustery city tomorrow and have loads of suggestions for places to have a good glass of wine. Sadly no cats, but wouldn't that combination make for a fascinating bar experience?

Posted by: Erin at October 16, 2007 10:45 PM

i am so very sad that i'm going to miss you while you're in my (general) neighborhood. perhaps if you hug some random redhead, that will set the universe right again.

maybe i'll send my cat on the train to see you. she's very good with directions.

Posted by: avalynda at October 16, 2007 11:00 PM

I ordered your book online from France and had it shipped to my mom's in Houston until I get over there to see them and get it. My 85-year-old great aunt is reading it first. So, your book will be making the rounds of the family, I suspect.

Just thought you might think it was funny to know an 85-year-old woman who rarely drinks, has never owned cats and who's never been married is enjoying your story of marital woes, alcoholic beverages and feline fuzz.

Posted by: Krista at October 16, 2007 11:10 PM

Hey!

I'm reading your book at the moment and it's brilliant! I had it especially ordered by my favorite bookseller, the Bookworm (Strasbourg, France), though I don't live there anymore (I now live in Valenciennes, yeepee, believe me this is a part of France you don't want to visit, well, it would only take 20 minutes anyway).
Anyway, when is your book tour moving towards the old continent, maybe, I don't know, Strasbourg? I have friends there who own a bookshop...

Looking forward to meet you in France!

Rosemarie

Posted by: Rosemarie at October 17, 2007 12:14 AM

...and, while you are in France, pls do come to Germany- It´s not that far from Strasbourg. And there´s wine, too. Promise.

Posted by: Gina at October 17, 2007 12:30 AM

I'll buy 10 of your books if you come to New Jersey! Pleeeeeaaaaassse!!!!

Yes, torties do count as carry-on, and so do tabbies as long as the carrier fits under the seat in front of you. I know you miss them when you're gone but TRUST ME you DO NOT want to travel with cats. We adopted ours overseas and imported them when we came back. I spend most of a 14-hour flight with a cat carrier on my lap and my arm inside to comfort my tortie. I love them dearly but what an ordeal that was--for all of us.

Posted by: Wendy at October 17, 2007 05:08 AM

A Tortie SHOULD count as a carry-on. But you know airlines and airline people - they have no souls. And lucky you going to places where it's handknit weather! Being a knitter in the south (and other warm places) has it's joys and woes. I would still recommend layers that can be removed, however. I have sweat problems myself and being able to peel off the handknits down to a comfy shell has it's benefits. I learned this the hard way. (Yes, I'm that sweaty girl in the sweater. I thought a sweater would be fine - it is Scotland, right? Oh right, but it's warm INSIDE and I had to walk a ways to get here.... *pretends not to notice sweatiness of sweater, nor the icky wordplay*)

Isn't it awesome to be so far away from home and to look down and see that stray pet fur knowing that they are home waiting for you, loving you, and that they sent this little reminder? I know my husband and I love finding "snookie furs" a few days into a trip.

bummer! Besides missing my friends, this is the first time I am sad that I no longer live in PDX during the rainy season. If you want to truely test drive those hand knits you should come to Boston. - We have a guest room and 2 cats willing to be rented out to any one who'll have them!

Posted by: heather at October 17, 2007 06:59 AM

Delurking to tell you how excited I was to see you mentioned smack in the middle of UK's Simply Knitting mag, way to go!!

Hope to see you in NoVA soon!

Posted by: Monica at October 17, 2007 07:16 AM

Come to Virginia!!! It's a great state and the leaves are changing colors and the weather is slowly starting to cool off...

Would love to get a chance to see you if you get closer to us than Florida or Tennessee...not that there is anything wrong with either of them, but still...

Posted by: Monet at October 17, 2007 07:23 AM

I'm so glad your book tour is going well. I do wish you were coming down my way, that is to say, South and such.

Let us know if you do!

Posted by: Keetha at October 17, 2007 07:38 AM

ummm, "doing itself" ? AH HA HA HA! My friends and I are twelve, too, and I just emailed them what you wrote because it sounded like something we would say. =)

I must be feeling irritable and PMSy today, for I feel like saying this:

All the commenters who ask Laurie to come to this or that city...she doesn't get to decide, dudes - it's the publisher who sets all of that up. Don't make our Aunt Purl crazy with all of the whining about where they do or don't send her.

*sorry, I'm feeling just a little stabby today.

Posted by: seizuresalad at October 17, 2007 08:34 AM

Your book is sold out at the Borders in Toledo, Ohio!

Posted by: ETK at October 17, 2007 08:42 AM

Hi, read abit of your blog after it has been mentioned in Simply Knitting.
Love the stories, plan to sit and read with a coffee when I have proper time.
Good luck with your book.

Oh CAP, I am so sad. I was totally going to drive down to Seattle tonight from Vancouver (crossing the border to see you even!!) but I came down with something and am stuck at home. Boo hiss. So. Disapointed.

You'll just have to come up to Vancouver now, I know there are at least a couple of us West Coast Canadians on here regularly.

Have fun tonight!! I so wish I could be there!!

Posted by: Sadie6 at October 17, 2007 10:42 AM

Laurie!
Come to Philly! Or at least the East Coast. Love all the pics of you on your trip to Houston. I'm sure all the East Coasters would love a chance to meet you...I know I would.

Best of luck! Still love your site.

Check out mine at: http://livemusingsnightly.blogspot.com/

Can't wait to read your book. And I'm straight!

You are SO funny... Today in Portland it is gray and rainy (Yay, Portland! I love you! I'm so glad October is finally here!) and I am wearing a tank top. Waiting for it to "get cold".

Posted by: pdxWoman at October 17, 2007 01:42 PM

I'm so sad I won't be able to go (I'm near Seattle). *sigh* See, you'll have to write another book and come out here again. Not only will I buy the book but I WILL go next time! ;)

Posted by: Johanna at October 17, 2007 02:33 PM

Don't get too bundled up in hand knit scarves. Tennessee on the 29th will look at you like you really are crazy. It was 81 today and we got the first rain we've had in months. The strange thing is I saw people in town today in sweats, I think the record breaking heat this yr. has fried their brains.(maybe you could offer them a scarf as a peace offering if you say porn)

Posted by: deathbyhobbylobby at October 17, 2007 07:12 PM

ha ha, you said beaverton. ;)

Posted by: balou at October 17, 2007 09:19 PM

Wendy has the tortie question completely right. As long as the tortie fits into a bag that fits under the seat, then it is a carryon. Of course, that means that you will have to give up your other carryon for said tortie.

I must admit that I was not going to comment originally because I am still sulking over the fact that you are not coming to the Bay Area. If I mail my book to you, can I get it signed?

Posted by: Dagny at October 17, 2007 10:27 PM

Hi Laurie, I bolted out of work at 8 p.m. to see if I could make it downtown in time tonight, but I was too late. :( So sorry to have missed the event. I hope you enjoyed your brief visit to Seattle! Don't worry, it's not usually so crazy blustery-rainy as it was today.

Posted by: Mary at October 17, 2007 10:34 PM

Was just rereading your blog this morning before work (yes, I do that) and wanted to say that I love that you are 12. That is all.

Posted by: SarahAyars at October 18, 2007 04:52 AM

You're worth the drive to the "dark side" (Beaverton) tonight. It's crazy weather, but of course there's the bonus of wearing your fabulous knitted items. See you tonight, toots!

OMG!! CAP, you are even MORE brilliant in person!! I love you!! I love exclaimation marks!!! I met her, and did not die of anxiety or endless babbling, nor did I barf. And, she liked me hat!!! Now I am really babbling on line...

Posted by: CarolAnne at October 18, 2007 08:39 AM

I don't know if you realize this, but if you came to Boston on your book tour, you'd have plenty of opportunity to wear lots of hand-knits. Maybe even all of them at once. It gets plenty cold here!

Posted by: Andrea at October 18, 2007 08:46 AM

You were fabulous last night! That blue top looked really gorgeous on you with the black sweater, by the way, and your hair looked great, in spite of not being as big as you wanted it to be. Thanks for coming to Seattle, and we're all glad you liked this lovely city. I totally know what you mean about how gorgeous it is flying in. You should see it on a sunny day sometime - it's breathtaking. I'm sure if you ever decided to take the plunge and move here, you'd be welcomed with many yarn filled arms - with good local wine too!

Posted by: gaile at October 18, 2007 08:46 AM

You were fantastic last night! You did a great job, and got through it without barfing, yay! I have to tell you, I just moved to Seattle in January, from Los Angeles (I actually worked downtown too, probably spitting distance from your building), and it is a completely different world here! Not only is it beautiful, but the people are REAL and yes, they READ! And Knit! And drink lovely wine! It’s a gooooood place to live. I highly recommend leaving Los Angeles and relocating.

Love the book, love the blog, and loved being able to see you in person. :)

Posted by: Erica at October 18, 2007 09:36 AM

Oh! I just wanted to tell you, I SAW SOMEONE ROCKING THE ARGYLE SHOES the other day while I was at work. And she told me where she got them. So I am shoe shopping this weekend. And getting argyle shoes.

You have made me a fashion victim, woman! I require revenge! Or yarn.

Posted by: Nette at October 18, 2007 09:53 AM

You really do need to come to the San Francisco area. We appreciate you too! And, in the city, it will be plenty cool enough for you to rock the hand knits! I'm just sayin' is all.

Posted by: Tami at October 18, 2007 10:22 AM

Give your kitties lots of thanks and love for preventing your suit case and laundry from floating to the ceiling. That's their job and apparently they do it well!
Any plans for a book signing in the greater Inland Empire area? Riverside needs us some Purl!!

Posted by: TamiW's sister at October 18, 2007 10:26 AM

too bad they don't have you at powells downtown. Seriously cool bookstore, I'd say the BEST BOOKSTORE in at least the continental US. check it out if you can. or maybe you've already been there. Anyway, portland is a neat city, and you'll get to wear your hand knits there. i want to move back to the NW for just that reason. I want to knit more sweaters!

Posted by: Patti at October 18, 2007 12:41 PM

Laurie! You were great last night! I agree, that top you were wearing was pretty on you. And it was great fun listening to you chat with us. AND it was great fun to meet all the knitters in the audience - made lots of new friends, and everyone was very welcoming right off the bat with fellow audience members - oh how I love Seattle. :) And THANK YOU for the lovely hug!!! :)

I just wanted to tell you that you did a great job at the Barnes & Noble in Seattle last night. You were funny and personable, and the whole experience was a charming blend as if your blog came in audiobook form. Plus, you share with only one other speaker the distinction of leaving me wondering "am I wearing okay underwear?" (Other speaker? Al Gore. You know it.)

Posted by: Sara at October 18, 2007 02:13 PM

Hello Laurie!
I went to the Mall of America today to buy socks (and I was successful), and while I was passing Barnes and Noble, I saw a sign advertising your appearance here on the 25th! It had a picture of you and the cover of your book. I would have tried to covertly take a picture of it, but I didn't have a camera with me. I am planning on being there myself, and I will try to think of a question you haven't already been asked.

Posted by: Anjanette at October 18, 2007 05:14 PM

Hello,

I know you're on the road right now and may not read this for a while but I just wanted to let you know that I was visiting Cute Overload and the ad for your book was showing in the left sidebar!

Posted by: Kath at October 18, 2007 07:17 PM

Just got back from the book reading in Beaverton OR and Laurie did great! She is just so funny and personable and tells a great story -- whether it's about zuchinni, the poo pile, or storing tupperware in her broken oven. Oh, and the naked people on public transportation! Who knew? Things like that don't happen very often in Salem.

I meant to bring a bottle of wine to give you, CAP, I truly did, but I forgot to grab it when I left the house for work this morning! I do hope you get to have some great NW wine while you are here!

Thanks for coming to our neck of the woods. I truly appreciate it.

Yay for Powell's! Support local endeavors. Not that it's at all local for me. PLEASE come to the East! It's unusally warm here!
