My cats love shoes too. It's kind of embarrassing, though when we have company and the cats are either rolling in the pile of shoes by the door or making sweet, sweet kitty love to the feet of our guests.

And the answer is, NO. You can't have your shoes. Because Bob needs them. To. . .cuddle. Because we all know how cuddly that hard rubber stuff is.

My cats get into fights over who gets to lay on my flip flops. While I have multiple boxes laying around the house to avoid fights between them, I haven't stooped to the crazy cat lady act of laying out multiple pairs of my shoes. I have to hang on to a small shred of sanity!!

He is Bobalicious!

The cat that I found at the pound WASN'T Julie; she looked exactly the same as my Julie. The real Julie came back a week ago and she looked terrible. She was down to 2.5 pounds and refused to eat. It turns out that she got into some antifreeze; not enough to kill her right away but enough to ulcerate her mouth and stomach and destroy her kidneys. We ended her suffering about an hour ago. I was going to put the "we have 2 Julies" story on my blog but I went from funny to devastating very quickly.

What is it with cats and shoes? Throughout my shoe-wearing career various cats have lain down and rubbed themselves on my footwear, or else attempted to wear and/or guard it much as Bob is doing. My shoes appear to be the only ones in the house that are the objects of this behavior. Maybe my feet smell like catnip?

Cuteness! Our Shamu has that same state of perpetual surpise goin' on all the time, although sometimes it morphs into Anxiety.

Oooo! I know the answer! I know why cats love shoes ... it is because your scent is concentrated in the sweat of your feet, so it is like a mommy (or daddy, or stranger) high that they get when sniffing them! And it can be comforting to them, so if you have to go away for awhile you should leave out a pair of house slippers (because they are sans street odor) or other frequently worn shoes :)
