Hello Monday, I would like the weekend back please.

Hi Grandma! You are hugging my face now!
The second beautiful blanket of squares arrived and it is so pretty! Thank you again to Kristy for doing this and to Cathy who sewed this blanket together and to every single person who participated.

Grandma and Aunt Pam and I gave it to Raydine, a Parkview resident who I just love to death ... she just got a brand new electric wheelchair and I was teasing her that she just needs a coat of glitter flake paint and a Virgin Mary airbrushed on the back and some hydraulics then she can be in the next Low Rider Magazine show. But little did I know she actually HAS hydraulics on that thing. It is fancier than my Jeep, I am not lying. Mostly what I needed to urgently know was if Raydine got drunk on her new motorized wheelchair, could she get a DUI?
Also, did I get pictures of any of this? No. Because I was too busy running my mouth. But the blanket is now with a woman who loves it and thanks ya'll and promises not to wheel and drink.
Also, have you met my best guy-friend, Drew? He is very cute:

In this picture, we had possibly been drankin' and carrying on.
Whenever Drew comes to visit I make him drink a lot of wine and eat In-n-Out Burgers and buy yarn. Everytime he leaves L.A. he has to detox for like a week. That is how good of a friend I am. Anyway one time Drew came out to visit me and I made him go clothes shopping and then I picked out REALLY GREAT clothes for him:

Drew is a good sport.
And even in spite of such overwhelming fashion help from moi, Drew has gone out and got himself a book deal for a whole book of crochet designs! Hopefully one of which will contain "I heart Hot Moms" but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Congratulations, Drew! You're the best guy-friend a girl could have, and I adore you, and I am going to learn how to crochet, I promise. As soon as you wear some of the T-shirts I picked out for you.

Awesome shirt and the colour looks fabulous on him! No reason not to wear it especially if it will have you learning how to crochet. I want to see that.
Yay for Grandmother Purl and Raydine! The blanket is gorgeous.
Posted by: Dorothy B at May 7, 2007 10:56 AM
He is kinda cute. What are you waitin' for?
Posted by: Shea at May 7, 2007 10:57 AM
Um, Shea, we're friends... not "special friends." Hee. I am saving that for the checkout boy at TJ's. stalk stalk.
Posted by: laurie at May 7, 2007 10:58 AM
I am blinded by the unbearable cuteness of you and Drew!! (In my best Dr. Phil accent) Y'all couldn't be any cuter if you were two baby squirrels in a bean bag chair!!
(I hope that made more sense to you than it did to me....I am very tired today!)
Posted by: Liz R at May 7, 2007 11:00 AM
Ha! I have that shirt! I think Drew should wear it all the time.
Posted by: Bubbles at May 7, 2007 11:04 AM
Just wanna say that I have the exact same shirt that you forced Drew to purchase. Its a great shirt! lol Anyhoo...have a great week!
Posted by: Clay at May 7, 2007 11:05 AM
Looks like a fun weekend! Did you have a chance to see if the Amazon listing was tweakable for the stuff you wanted to change? It looked as though there is a function for that. And you have some reviews from Drew and Annie! Sweet! And congrats to Drew on his book deal!
Posted by: Sue F. at May 7, 2007 11:05 AM
I love that pic of you and Drew! I need to find me a great guy friend like that.
Posted by: gaile at May 7, 2007 11:07 AM
Sue -- Amazon updated the text, but with even WRONG-er text. I about died. According to the new, revised, still wrong and even more wrong text, it is now a how-to knitting guide, which of course it is not at all. It is a novel, a memoir about divorce, and helpy... but not with knitting. Go figure.
Thatr link you see to "update product info" does not control the description, Amazon controls it. You can only submit updates to things like page counts and stuff.
Believe me, if there were a way to email in a new description I would have done it 5,000 times a day. There isn't. I have called and cried and emailed my heart out to the publishing company, they're at a loss, too.
So I have given up on it. It just needs to get fixed before September when the real push for the book starts. GAH. It's like some drunk moneky is typing in descriptions at amazon.com. It's so bad now it's become funny. Sort of.
Posted by: laurie at May 7, 2007 11:12 AM
Yeah, Drew is Dreamy! I know him from his crochet blog and the crochet boards. Believe me, Laurie, he's worth learning to crochet for.
Of course, crochet is cool anyway.
Posted by: devil at May 7, 2007 11:13 AM
Great pics, all of them! Am I weird that I barely know you, have never met Drew at all, but I'm so happy about your respective book deals? (I feel a special connection to him because he's from Houston). Okay, maybe I am weird--so what?
Posted by: Anna-Liza at May 7, 2007 11:13 AM
A whole week to detox? Sounds like a wonderful time!
Posted by: Vanessa at May 7, 2007 11:16 AM
How did you ever meet the Crochet Dude anyhow? I don't think I've ever seen that in your blog and since I'm a nosey sort I just figured I'd ask.
And I have to know -- Does Soba like him?
Posted by: Leslie in Mass at May 7, 2007 11:20 AM
Hee hee! I always have to detox for like a week after I visit my niece in DC. I feel Drew's pain - not really, because it's always totally worth the recovery week!
Posted by: Amy in StL at May 7, 2007 11:21 AM
Love the Drew!! I especially love the photo of you and Grandma. Thanks for making me go "ahhhhh".
I have to tell you, after friday's big debate about whether or not to shampoo everyday. I took the advice to wash my fine hair one day and wet and condition the next...It WORKS! My hair didn't look like my neighbors cockapoo mix after he has played in the sprinkler. It honestly looked that it was sparkling clean and shiney!
Posted by: robinv at May 7, 2007 11:29 AM
Wow! I see my square in that blanket! How awesome. I am so glad that the squares are becoming blankets for people who deserve them! Hope you can get the mess with Amazon sorted out in time... maybe you could set the wrath of Soba upon them?
Posted by: Lauren at May 7, 2007 11:32 AM
I <3 Drew because I found CAP cuz of the link on HIS blog!
That's why I post under this name. Drew already had a stalker named Ruth. I didn't want us to be confused with each other. Isn't that nice of me?
Oh man, that blanket is definitely another blanket of awesomeness! You ladies RAWK! Seriously, I had some eye issues while viewing that and knowing that someone is gonna be snuggling up in that. I hope you told Raydine the Internets knitted it for her. :D
And for those of you needing a cute cat picture fix today, I give you this:

Glad yer weekend was great, Laurie! Your gramma is just too precious for words!
Posted by: The Other Ruth at May 7, 2007 11:32 AM
Yeah for Grandma kisses!!!
And I am so thrilled that Drew loves me.
I think I need to create a psychomom shirt.
Posted by: psychomom at May 7, 2007 11:39 AM
Yay second blanket of awesomeness! Yay Drew! Drew is indeed... um... Drew? You look mahvelous, dahling.
Posted by: Lucia at May 7, 2007 11:55 AM
YOU?! Running off your mouth?! Say it isn't so!!!
Drew looks great. He looks different. What is different?! Y'all look so cute together.
Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at May 7, 2007 11:56 AM
You gotta learn to crochet girl! So you too can be a hooker!!
Posted by: melissa at May 7, 2007 12:11 PM
he is cute!
Why not 'special friends'?
any guy who'll go yarn shopping with you is a keeper.
Posted by: suetreiber at May 7, 2007 12:14 PM
All ya'll are just so cute.
Posted by: Cookie at May 7, 2007 12:25 PM
Baby powder is the answer to hair woes. Mine is as fine as frog hair and a little baby powder (actually that shower-to-shower stuff smells better) before bed and some in the morning to fluff it up and voila! Bouncy, non-oily locks!
Posted by: Dallas at May 7, 2007 12:27 PM
That is one awesome blanket of awesomeness.
Drew's a doll, too.
Posted by: dez at May 7, 2007 12:34 PM
Petal, you could crochet till your arms fell off and it wouldn't make up for asking Drew to wear that shirt.
Posted by: Rachel H at May 7, 2007 12:44 PM
Hi Laurie - How did you meet Drew? Someone else asked too - we're all just wondering.
Also - do you know if your friend Kristy is still having people send squares for yet another quilt?
Sue
Posted by: sue at May 7, 2007 12:45 PM
I must know where you found that t-shirt! I have a couple of co-workers that are in desperate need of me gifting it to them.
Posted by: Melissa at May 7, 2007 12:49 PM
The T-shirt is from Target!
I met Drew through Annie.
I don't think that Kristy is doing more squares, but there is a knit-a-square-along going right now for Virginia Tech folks, there is a link in an entry about a week ago...
Any more questions? LOL
MONDAYS!!!
Posted by: laurie at May 7, 2007 12:54 PM
Please please make out with Drew? WHY NOT?????
Posted by: Dena at May 7, 2007 01:02 PM
I had a BIG, fat smile on my face when I saw that pic of you and your grandma! sigh, how sweet!
And that blanket is bee-u-tee-full!
And then another sigh for you and Drew horsing around. Y'all look like you always have fun together! Congrats to Drew on his book! So cool!
Posted by: Leeny at May 7, 2007 01:08 PM
Heh, heh...you and Drew, ha! Right. I happen to know that you and Drew are JUST GOOD FRIENDS. By the way, are those pix of Drew before or after the wine/burger extravaganza?
My offer still stands to teach you how to crochet. Just bring your hook and yarn to the WeHo SnB and the lessons will begin!
Posted by: Ellen Bloom at May 7, 2007 01:16 PM
How did you meet Drew? Have you told this story before and I missed it? I'm always curious when I read about him.
Posted by: Jennifer at May 7, 2007 01:23 PM
Hurray for more blankety goodness!!! I am so glad this blanket has found a happy home.
To answer Sue's question, no we aren't collecting squares anymore. We do have squares out to three knitters/crochets right now, though, who are sewing up more blankets for your grandmother's friends.
Hurray for Drew!
Posted by: Kristy at May 7, 2007 01:55 PM
I see my square! Yay! The blanket is awesome. I'm glad it went to someone equally awesome. Many thanks to the ladies who organized this and sewed the squares together.
Drew looks like a barrel of fun. Congrats on the book deal, Drew! :-)
Posted by: Mary in Virginia at May 7, 2007 01:58 PM
GREAT PICS! I love that shirt. TOO FUNNY. What a great sport.
If you're looking to learn crochet, look no further. Free videos on my site: http://www.nexstitch.com/Tutorials.html
Now Drew, get crackin' on wearin' those shirts!

Hi Laurie - I am a physcial therapist and at multiple times in my life, I have worked in nursing homes and assisted living environments. It is so awesome that your Grandma and other residents have these beautiful blankets.
One correction...an "electric" wheelchair is always called a "power" wheelchair...we never put our clients in "electric chairs".
Funny but true.
:-)
Posted by: Jane at May 7, 2007 02:47 PM
By the way, if someone operates a "motorized device" on a public way and they are intoxicated, they can be cited for "operating a motorized vehicle to endanger".
Another funny but true point.
:-)
Posted by: Jane at May 7, 2007 02:50 PM
Does this mean we are done talkin' bout hair and gas?
Posted by: Laurie (too) at May 7, 2007 02:54 PM
vacations which require detox after are the best vacations ever!!! You ARE a great friend!
Posted by: lovemonkey at May 7, 2007 03:01 PM
Hi Laurie,
I haven't read all the comments yet, so I don't know if anyone else has replied about the DUI wheelchair yet. We actually had that problem up here in Saskatchewan / Canada a couple of years ago. Soooo hillbilly, I know. But yeah, there was a guy in Weyburn who just wouldn't stop drinkin' and scooterin' we'd hear about it from time to time, no one quite knew what to do about it. Haven't heard anything about him in quite a while, I'm not sure how it was resolved.
Posted by: Rayleen at May 7, 2007 03:12 PM
I don't know if I can stand the excitement~ Your book and a book from the Dude~ OMG its too much! I'm so excited and won't be able to stand the wait.
Posted by: Teresa (NC) at May 7, 2007 03:22 PM
Oh and you really do need to learn to crochet sometime, then you'll be ambi-craftious. You can say, "Oh, pshaw, I can do both".
Posted by: Teresa (NC) at May 7, 2007 03:25 PM
About the motorized wheelchair. I do know a guy who used to drive his in the streets. (Detroit sidewalks are actually worse than the streets) He got a ticket for speeding. His wheelchair actually could go faster than the posted speed limit!!!
Posted by: Dr Amy at May 7, 2007 03:58 PM
Mondays, yuk. Hey, Drew-I'm a hot mom. Ok,ok, I'm a mom, does that count? Laurie, your Grandma is adorable!
Posted by: Jann at May 7, 2007 03:59 PM
Wasn't there some guy who got a DUI for driving a tractor under the influence on a public road? And I have heard of bicyclists getting ticketed too.
Posted by: Sue F. at May 7, 2007 04:05 PM
Next time get a picture of the wheelchair with hydraulics. I've just gotta see that.
And Sue F. is right about bicyclists. I had a friend get a ticket for pedaling under the influence when we were in college.
Posted by: Dagny at May 7, 2007 04:16 PM
by the way, Laurie - I love the pop up on your book ad!!!
:)
Posted by: suzi in NC at May 7, 2007 04:29 PM
You CAN get a DUI on auto-like things. On my birthday a few years back Dave Grohl was on the news for getting a DUI in Australia....on a tiny little scooter, I don't know if it was even big enough to be a moped.
Posted by: LauraLee at May 7, 2007 04:57 PM
I miss my special friends like Drew! They are the best! I had previously checked out your links to Drew's website and keep thinking I have to get back into crocheting cuz knitting (the circular/hat making/decreasing/dpns kind) is giving me lots of problems. Also, I keep "hearing" about In & Out Burgers, usually in reference to Paris Hilton or some such "celebrity." We only have "Sonic" where I live...are they the same? I hope not!
Posted by: gigi at May 7, 2007 05:16 PM
Oh, and I just clicked to enlarge the knitted
square blanket--amazing! So many stitches/patterns...such talented knitters...
Posted by: gigi at May 7, 2007 05:21 PM
I'll have to go to Drew's blog... I learned to crochet when I was 7. I've only knitted for 2 years or so. And I just met Annie Modesitt, who he co-authored his last book with, last week!
You crack me up, Laurie. :-)
Posted by: Karen in Toledo at May 7, 2007 05:36 PM
In and Out Burgers - YAY!
Posted by: AlliMack at May 7, 2007 05:41 PM
You're wise not to pursue Drew. You knit, he crochets -- mixed couples, you know... doesn't always work so well. ;-)
Glad he has a book in the works. His patterns are great.
Posted by: Kat in Taiwan at May 7, 2007 05:56 PM
You're grandma is so stinking cute... and I already yay'd for Drew over at his blog when he posted his big news (but I had already figured it out.. cuz I'm smart that way)
Posted by: Beth at May 7, 2007 06:01 PM
i think i'm the inspiration for that shirt. *hiccup* teehee
Posted by: kel at May 7, 2007 06:10 PM
you're so lucky to still have your grandma!
you and Drew look so cute, I have a best guy friend like that too. Luckily my boyfriend likes him!
He looks even cuter sans moustache! - you look cute sans moustache too!

I bought my husband that shirt - he wore it at the hospital when I had my daughter. Sweet, yes?
Posted by: jenfromri at May 7, 2007 07:01 PM
The Crochet Dude!
Though he looked familiar.
I've got him badged on my site.

Congratulations on the book deal!!! And wow, doesn't it feel wonderful!! The person from Martingale who called me when they accepted mine instantly made it onto my Best Friends for Life list, she was so excited for me. I know what an incredible high it is when it happens--again, congratulations!!
I had an older friend who was fumbling with her keys at her front door, accidentally hit the joystick on her electric chair in the process, and smashed out the doorframe. Oops. "My landlord is going to kill me!" Better watch them thar wheelieboppers.
Posted by: Alison Hyde at May 7, 2007 09:13 PM
O you are SERIOUSLY cute! and with your Grandma? All's I can say is that is some cute chicks is what that is. I had a friend like Drew who was so dear to me - think I'll see if I can find him; this innernet thing can sometimes do stuff like that. I finished two squares for Virginia Tech, their deadline is May 31 I do believe. And crochet? Works pretty nice as a method for attaching together some knittings. My weekly S&B partner (who always calls it "our knitting night") actually crochets. I'll have her read Drew's blog (on account of now I do, and I mostly knit).
Posted by: Your Doting Bubbe in WI at May 7, 2007 10:01 PM
I bought that shirt for my husband! And he hasn't worn it yet, either! When will men learn we are ALWAYS right?! I just don't get boys.
Posted by: Sara at May 7, 2007 11:58 PM
Ya know... that picture of you and your Grandma is quite possibly - nope, I take that back - it IS the best picture you've ever posted on your blog. (Sorry kitties!) There is nothing like some good ol' fashioned, face-squishin', Grandma lovin! I hope you frame that picture, and treasure it forever.
Seriously, you can't pay for memories like that.
Posted by: jen (yet another) at May 8, 2007 10:28 AM
One of my friends has that t-shirt, it's one of his favorites. For some reason it always makes me think of Jerry Maguire and the whole "I did not shoplift the booty!" conversation.
About the lack of sleeves on t-shirts...I just got some that I love, they're Duck Head. I'm wearing the green one now, and there are most definitely sleeves of a decent size. There's round and v-neck ones, I got mine at Goody's but I'm sure somewhere else would have them. Old Navy is also worth a look, sometimes they can have really good solids, just ignore the trashy teenage clothes in the front of the store ;-)
