Deep Thoughts With Sobakowa

Humans only use 9% of their brain power

I, on the other hand, use 9000%

So you may wonder why I don't feed myself

But why would I?

Why would I open a can if I don't have to?

Humans do it all for me. I am free to think my kittycat thoughts.

That last photo is PRICELESS! Love the Soba (She looks SOOO sweet in these pics!)

Posted by: Amy at February 23, 2007 09:27 AM

I loves me my Sobakawa. If I could I would pet her and feed her and tickle in between here priceless little toes all day long, as is appropriate for such a ruler of the world and all...

Posted by: Imaginary Maggie at February 23, 2007 09:31 AM

Watch out - I see claws in that second-to-last picture, and she ain't afraid to use them! :)

Posted by: Liz R at February 23, 2007 09:33 AM

Someone shared with me an (apt) accusation leveled toward those that work at the new Artists' Management Agency in our building complex - they eat babies for lunch.

I think Soba eats babies while contemplating the destruction of civilization as we know it.

But I still worship her.

Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at February 23, 2007 09:36 AM

damn those are some great cat pix. mY cats never look nearly this good.

Posted by: suetreiber at February 23, 2007 09:38 AM

You are a photographic and comic genius! Of course, having good models and material never hurts!

Most humble supplication to the Great Sobakowa!!

You ROCK! Have a great weekend.

Posted by: mctwin at February 23, 2007 09:40 AM

Well, someone is having a cush Friday. We all need a no hassel Friday! Have a fabulous weekend and extra treats for her.

Posted by: Angela at February 23, 2007 09:46 AM

She almost looks sweet enough to pet her tummy but I know better.

World domination it soooo tough!

Thank Soba it's Friday!!

Posted by: psychomom at February 23, 2007 09:51 AM

Did your cats like the bag of Temptations treats I sent? My cats go bananas just seeing the bag!!

Posted by: Liz R at February 23, 2007 09:52 AM

Cute pics; you captured her inner evil well. Also: I have that same clock/radio (background 4th pic)

Posted by: michael at February 23, 2007 09:52 AM

Oh I love that last photo! As I type, one of my mogs is battering my hands off the keyboard, demanding my attention - what would we do without 'em...

Posted by: Gail at February 23, 2007 09:58 AM

I've seen that look before. It says, "Don't I look cute?" When you go in for closer inspection, you suddenly find yourself donating blood. Cute, my butt.

Posted by: Dagny at February 23, 2007 10:01 AM

awwwww...she looks so sweet and innocent....but we all know better, right? :)

Ms. Subliminal Mouseover rides again -- I love it!

Posted by: Anonymous at February 23, 2007 10:08 AM

What a looker she is; my dog NEVER looks like that...sigh. I miss sharing my life with a kitty cat. Cats rule, dogs drool and dogs eat poop...they do not philosophize over it.

Posted by: harriett at February 23, 2007 10:13 AM

Oh, God, I'm wiping away tears! Girl, those are the funniest captions yet!

Hysterical!!

Posted by: Leeny at February 23, 2007 10:14 AM

Awesome. If Sobakawa ever wants to start up an ashram or something, I might sign up.

Don't you just love alt text! I've been so tempted to put a few choice words in on some images at work. Heh, heh.

Posted by: Nancy Knits at February 23, 2007 10:21 AM

Okay, the cats are cute and your captions are funny. But I am still reeling from yesterday's post, which is Your Best Blog Entry...EVAH.

Where is your book deal, missy? All that time doing stockinette scarves? Do yourself a favor and learn another stitch, or you can do us ALL a favor and GET A AGENT ALREADY and write a book.

Posted by: Gina P at February 23, 2007 10:25 AM

It's funny that she can look so cute while plotting our demise.

Posted by: Andree at February 23, 2007 10:26 AM

I have to say, Soba looks so much like my cat Snip did, right down to the stripe down her nose/face. I think they may have been twins in another life. And Snip had the Tortie "the whole world is mine, don't mess with me" attitude too!

So cute, but don't touch lest you lose a finger.

Posted by: Shana at February 23, 2007 10:37 AM

I saw her claws and was thinking, oh they need to be trimmed, but I can't imagine that the Great and Powerful Sobakowa would sit still for such activities.

I love that orange stripe on her chest, so lovely.

Posted by: fluffycat at February 23, 2007 10:45 AM

Oh My! It was so foul, he appears to have passed out!

Posted by: Julie at February 23, 2007 10:50 AM

Oh - I am so glad I decided to read the comments - I would have never realized there was alt text in bloglines.. never.

Sobakowa is truly a master of "cat life" haha

To poo or not to poo, that is the question.

Some thing is rotten in the state of Denmark, is it?

Posted by: Dorothy B at February 23, 2007 11:11 AM

Jen's thought to ponder for the day: Would any other house with four cats have just as hairless white sheets? I only have two and I have to vacuum the bed.

The divine Sobakowa speaks. We, her faithful servants, attend.

Tee hee. She's adorable! :-)

Posted by: Tara at February 23, 2007 12:14 PM

It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

Callie has a black stripe on her chest right where Soba has an orange one.

Posted by: Lucia at February 23, 2007 12:15 PM

Someone needs to create a colorway based on Soba's coat. Such beautiful colors.

Posted by: Laurie at February 23, 2007 01:13 PM

Shakespeare might worthy of The Soba's musings.

Posted by: audie at February 23, 2007 01:31 PM

Laurie's right - we need a Soba colorway! Oh thou yarn designers, we are waiting! After all, Lucy has her own colorway... :)

Shakespeare might be worthy of The Soba's musings.

Posted by: audie at February 23, 2007 01:32 PM

hahahahahaha

it's probably her poo that she smells. or does her poo not stink?

Posted by: maryse at February 23, 2007 01:34 PM

What is alt text?

Is Laurie doing some kind of subliminal mind meld on us?

I LIKE it!

Soba is gorgeous.

Cats. Bitchiness. Yes, women and cats BELONG together.

Laurie, truly you take awesome animal pics. Maybe you should start a 2nd job. Start with your friends' pets. Just to see...

I was surfing through blogs and came across yours and seen the pics of your cat. I can't believe how much she looks like my Skitz. They could be related. :)

I can't BELIEVE I missed ONE day of your blog, and its the day when you stand in the presence of Miss Natalie! I've learned my lesson. There is no headache worth missing my daily dose of CAP!

Cute Kitty pics! our cat, Sachem, can be see at http://www.catster.com/cats/476786 and he has very similar commentary on poo. He too has those claws that are just waiting shred my loving hand...

Posted by: Dale at February 24, 2007 04:16 AM

I bow in obeisance to Soba. I showed the pix to the priestesses Evangeline and Lilliane (whom I love and serve at all times)(had to put that in in case they should read this on their own.) She's beyond beautiful, yes a colorway, and you ARE an artiste of Camera and Caption. There are a lot of wonderful books of Cats & Captions...you really SHOULD do one; it would be superior (and all the CAP fans would put down our needles and buy at least two -- or three, one to keep, one to loan, one as a gift for someone). Thank you, thank you!

Hi. I'm kinda OT here, but http://www.smileysyarns.com has Patons UpCountry for sale...I know, the budget and all, but it's that awesome yarn! I have stocked up for a friend and myself. We were so sad when we couldn't get it anymore. So now I have something to look forward to this week. That, and the billion inches of snow we're expecting here in WI. There's 5 inches already. Go snow!

Posted by: denise at February 24, 2007 08:28 AM

Hmm, I too love a good pictoral blog episode. My Wee Malichai just got done with one. (though she is a dog) Your blog was mentioned in her previous one! I have just read through all your archives and have thouroughly enjoyed myself, thank you for sharing so much with all of us. You are inspiring! And I fully expect Soba to complete his world domination anytime now.

I LOVE Smiley's!!! I used to live about 5 blocks away when I lived in NYC. I brought my giant double stroller with my 2 babies in it there to buy yarn all the time!! My great-grandmother lived in the neighborhood too and bought yarn as well. It's very inexpensive and I miss it!!

I hope you're all having a great weekend!

Posted by: Liz R at February 24, 2007 06:19 PM

ah - gaw bless the Sobakawa. she has the ability to look cute, even when planning evil doings (if Hitler hadnt had that rubbish moustache, surely he could have done the same).
much as I adore your beautifully written stories about your life, I also love your postings just full of kitty pics :D

Posted by: pie at February 24, 2007 09:56 PM

Just out of curiosity, is there any story behind her name?

Posted by: Katya at February 25, 2007 03:29 AM

Hi Laurie:
I've been reading your blog for awhile now, and I really enjoy it. I am also from a small town in Texas and, like you, I refer to turn signals as "blinkers". What a hoot. Anyway, I am actually posting to tell you that smileysyarns.com is selling what may be the last remaining stash of your beloved Patons' UpCountry. Enjoy!

Posted by: jana at February 25, 2007 11:37 AM

Could this be.... a softer side to the Soba??

Posted by: Peeve at February 25, 2007 01:23 PM

The answer to Sobakawa's question, as given to me by a high school math teacher is "12". Yep, I believe you will find that is, indeed, the meaning of life.

By the way, you left a comment on my blog saying you had an "unconventional question" to ask me. You never asked it, and we're sitting around here in suspense wondering what it could be (was it related to the wine?). Even my husband asked me what it was. But, you never wrote me back to ask it. Is this how you keep men interested? Just string them along with a series of mysterious comments? Genius.

I thought the answer was "42".

Posted by: The Other Ruth at February 25, 2007 04:20 PM

Have there been secret, subliminal, "alt text" comments on all the pictures, all this time, and I never knew it??? Oh my, now I have to go back through all the history and see what I have been missing!

Posted by: aileen at February 25, 2007 07:08 PM

I should never be drinking anything while reading your cat photos. It never fails, whatever I'm drinking comes out my nose. In this case, hot tea. Ouch!

But tell Sobakowa that I think she's got a bright career ahead of her.

Posted by: Julie at February 25, 2007 08:15 PM

yep it's definetely 42. So next time she wonderes what it's all about, tell her the answer to all her questions is 42.

Despite the fact that she's a she, I always hear her voice in my head as Scar from The Lion King (Jeremy Irons).

Posted by: Caroline at February 26, 2007 07:27 AM

My beloved cat Stripe (named after that Gremlin, ya know?) was also a feline philosopher, though the vocation was forced upon him when I was forced (by my Landlord) to have him declawed. Prior to that he was an outdoor enthusiast. But after...he pondered the meaning of life daily between naps. He passed over the rainbow bridge years ago and I still miss him, the most beloved of the cats of I have through the years. Thanks for sharing your cats with your readers.

Posted by: Beverly at February 26, 2007 07:33 AM

My little girl (almost 2) sits on my lap and talks to your cats. Meow! Meow! Here kitty, kitty. So cute. Thanks for sharing. We'll have a kitty some day. But for now, I already have 3 little ones to unravel my knitting.
