And I have the six-inch claw mark to prove it.

Ummm ... I don't think I would have been checking Soba for a bellybutton. Seems like there should have been some better choices in the house. Just sayin'.

Cute Pic, for a Dictator!
Posted by: laurie d at August 11, 2006 10:50 AM
But shes' a CUTE lil' Dictator!
Posted by: marcia at August 11, 2006 10:55 AM
Is Soba cranky because Drew is coming??? She'll need a lot of rest; I hear it's very physically taxing to perform levitation (don't ask me how I know).
Enjoy your weekend...drink lots of wine and beer for me!! ;o)
Posted by: Liz R at August 11, 2006 10:56 AM
be afraid, be very afraid of the glare that can turn you to a pillar of salt!
must....look....away!
Posted by: robinv at August 11, 2006 11:02 AM
I probably would have chosen Roy for the bellybutton check.
Soba looks mean but so comfy.
Posted by: Dorothy B at August 11, 2006 11:03 AM
You're lucky to have got away with all limbs intact. I cannot imagine The Soba willingly submitting to a body search of any kind.
Posted by: Martigny at August 11, 2006 11:05 AM
No bellybutton, but hella whiskers. I'd make that trade.
Posted by: Uccellina at August 11, 2006 11:06 AM
My dog has a very faint belly button. It's right above her scar from being spayed.
Posted by: Annette at August 11, 2006 11:07 AM
I figured Soba was bellybutton-free because, clearly, the Soba was divinely made and delivered to Earth for us to worship. Thus the dictatorial tendencies.
She's still cute, though, even when she's surly.
Posted by: Samantha at August 11, 2006 11:07 AM
My dog had a belly 'dent'
Posted by: Sandee at August 11, 2006 11:16 AM
no belly button.... I better go check my cats... I thought they had belly buttons.
Posted by: Amy at August 11, 2006 11:17 AM
I have heard all this dog about dog's having belly buttons but have yet to check my doggy out. She will let me do most anything to her so perhaps I will investigate.
Posted by: Jo at August 11, 2006 11:18 AM
Is that why Saddam Hussein and Muammer Qaddafi are so bad tempered - because of no bellybutton bitterness?
Posted by: Kristy at August 11, 2006 11:20 AM
Ah, the sacrifices we make for science...
Posted by: AT at August 11, 2006 11:21 AM
I have my steno pad handy. If you're a dictator, what do you have to say...

Bawaahahaha!!!!! Big me your people woman, for I rule! HAHAHAHA!
Posted by: Cristina at August 11, 2006 11:30 AM
She really was not loving my attempts to find her bellybutton.
Posted by: laurie at August 11, 2006 11:32 AM
I clicked on your blog and I'm pretty sure Soba just put a curse on me.
Posted by: tj at August 11, 2006 11:38 AM
OH NO...you didn't try it did you? You should have your neighbor "Drunk Julie" look for it! She'd never feel a thing and wonder what happened in the morning! Hell--she'd probably think she fell in the rose bush...if she has one!
Tell her if she finds the cat's bellybutton there's a six pack in it for her!
Posted by: Robin in VA at August 11, 2006 11:38 AM
She looks so much like my cat, Baby The Ultimate Diva, who died last year.
I love torties. They're so neurotic, and even more self-absorbed than other cats.
Posted by: Jeannie at August 11, 2006 11:46 AM
Sobo is such a pretty girl, even if she is a mean one!
Poochie has and outie and Jethro has an innie.
Posted by: Cheryl in PA at August 11, 2006 11:56 AM
Many lab experiments involving kitties and anatomy qualify me to inform you that yes, kitties have belly buttons. They also like to suck on titties. :)
Posted by: meaghyn at August 11, 2006 12:05 PM
If she had anything of the kind, it would probably be called an Initial Creation Device, or perhaps Early Nutrient Delivery Access Point.
"Bellybutton"? That name does not belong with The Soba and her magnificence.
Posted by: ccr in MA at August 11, 2006 12:06 PM
That look belongs with the belly button quote on mycathatesyou.com. I love that site. . . take care of the claw mark.

Just call her Soba XY - she could get her own tv show!
Posted by: Tami at August 11, 2006 12:26 PM
I need that photo to post in my cube!

Did y'all hear that Mike Douglas died today??? He was definately one of those 70's teevee hipsters!! I watched him every day as a kid.
Remember when he used to have guest hosts??? The John Lennon/Yoko Ono week was amazing. He even had a cool hairdo (sort of....at least he was trying!)
Poor Mike! He's gone to the great big talk show set in the sky.
Posted by: Liz R at August 11, 2006 12:59 PM
CAP! I just put something on my blog that i think will make you laugh. SNAKES ON A PLANE! http://anjaknits.blogspot.com
Posted by: Jackie at August 11, 2006 01:01 PM
Ah, ruling by fear and cuteness.
Posted by: Lucia at August 11, 2006 01:10 PM
Ummm... I would have called my vet to ask rather than risk life and limb by checking the cat. Just sayin'...
Posted by: Cookie at August 11, 2006 01:24 PM
There was wine involved - wasn't there? Cause it sounds like there was some wine involved.
Posted by: Faith at August 11, 2006 01:31 PM
NEW PUPPY PICS ARE UP!!!!!!!!!!
Ollie can not be outdone by the cuteness of Soba!
Posted by: Crystal at August 11, 2006 01:44 PM
You're certainly braver than I am.
Posted by: Sue F. at August 11, 2006 01:45 PM
It seems to me, for someone who is so clever with the Internets, that you would have just Googled "cat belly button". But, that's just me. Anyway, if you had, you could have found this link:
http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_001a.html
Me not being so clever with the Internets, I don't know how to paste this as an active link. Darn!
Posted by: Forest Green at August 11, 2006 01:46 PM
Put my Dolly in a room with Soba and they would probably acheive world domination within 24 hours.
Posted by: knittingpagan at August 11, 2006 02:44 PM
I think we need some kitty posse video!
Posted by: Nancy Knits at August 11, 2006 02:55 PM
Hm. Wine? Wellllll.....
Throw in a round-trip plane ticket and consider your garage "helped"! I'll even provide my not-quite-patented homemade lasagne!
I don't think they'll let me bring the powerwasher as carry-on, though.... : /
Posted by: David at August 11, 2006 03:22 PM
Are you SURE you do not have a belly button?
Posted by: Debbie at August 11, 2006 03:35 PM
Perhaps the little furball can take over Cuba if Castro doesn't recover from his surgery. Viva Sobakawa - El Dictatora!!!
Posted by: Karen at August 11, 2006 03:46 PM
I actually have a phobia of bellybuttons.
Ew. I hate them.
Someday when I am rich and have lots of disposable income I shall have mine removed.
Posted by: shar at August 11, 2006 05:04 PM
Hrmmm, must be a day for evil cat blogging. I also have a pic of my own lil' dictator. I hope they never get to compare notes. Soba looks like a force of nature.
Posted by: Lynne at August 11, 2006 05:41 PM
What do they do with all the spare belly buttons?
They send them to the naval reserves.
Posted by: psychomom at August 11, 2006 06:03 PM
That is so funny. Makes me miss having a kitty. I have mountains of pictures of my old kitties. You always think of the best captions.
Posted by: Shannon at August 11, 2006 06:09 PM
What a face to love! I'm a sucker for these cats planning world domination. :-)
Posted by: Jaime at August 11, 2006 07:39 PM
Cat have belly buttons, they are just littler than humans. And female cats loose theirs when they are spayed. I know because I had a huge boy cat, Snitter, who had a belly button! :)
Posted by: Roszell at August 11, 2006 08:44 PM
Yes, they DO have bellybuttons - all of them, including spayed females! Try shaving the hair off that belly (ha!)and you'll see! Good Luck!
Posted by: Gretchen at August 11, 2006 11:21 PM
Go ahead! Try shaving the hair off their belly! Go ahead! Just try!
Posted by: Forest Green at August 12, 2006 03:08 AM
I adore your cats!! Makes me miss mine so much, but pedro and yoshi will get lovin too.
Posted by: fiona at August 12, 2006 04:57 AM
Hmm - I've seen evidence that Soba has taken over Canterbury as on a railway bridge near us there is the word Soba then Meow. You don't want to mess with a cat that has that sort of power, do you? I will have to email you a photo.
Posted by: mrspao at August 12, 2006 07:42 AM
hahahaha!
Posted by: pam at August 12, 2006 09:21 AM
Soba has been to Canterbury? Sheesh. She gets around.
Posted by: Dagny at August 12, 2006 10:42 AM
Y'all are extra funny today.
Posted by: Martigny at August 12, 2006 10:46 AM
Memo to Soba:
Methinks thou dost protest too much..."I am a dictator." You are a pussy cat and you know it. Period. End of sentence. Sheesh. And you DID take my rubber bands and my paper bag and my....oh, what's the use. You are also a confiscator of other people's stuff.
Someone in the know
Posted by: Vicki Woodyard at August 12, 2006 02:02 PM
What have you against dogs? I find this blog totally biased.
Posted by: Neil at August 12, 2006 02:49 PM
Soba is such a Diva.. she needs her own Catster.com personal webpage.. !
Posted by: Michelle at August 12, 2006 06:23 PM
Soba, you tagged me long ago, now I respond.
Posted by: Mo at August 12, 2006 08:40 PM
I hope the belly button thing wasn't answered already. If it was, sorry!
All mammals, with a few exceptions, have a belly button. You usually cannot see them if the animal has hair on its abdomen. My Boston Terrier has a very visible belly button because she has very little hair on her belly. Its more of a round, pink scar than a innie or outie like a human's belly button.
Marsupials do not have belly buttons. Mammals like the duck bill platypus that lay eggs also do not have belly buttons.
Posted by: Faith at August 12, 2006 09:43 PM
Soba. Diva Cat, and not afraid to show it!
Posted by: demondoll at August 12, 2006 09:44 PM
Oh, Neil, CAP likes doggies, too; just search the site for entries about "Minou", it sounded like she almost dog-napped her friend's little pooch, although it was admittedly over a year ago. What is it with knitters and cats, anyway? Cats > dogs in knit-land, it seems.
