Those crazy people in wigs who knit ...

birthday-soba-box.jpg
That's the Sobakowa, exercising her powers of Eminent Domain in the box which contained one perfect pink birthday present from Drew.

Imagine the shock, surprise, and probable horror that came over the few poor souls who braved their very first night of Stitch 'n Bitch on Thursday, when the entire WeHo S'nB group was decked out in crazy wigs and drinking from strategically placed bottles of wine. One new girl fled the scene of the wigfest as soon as possible, but a few brave ladies managed to sit through most of the event without medication, so maybe they'll come back on a normal evening. Sorry there are no captions, I was off work for a few days and I have eleventeen hundred emails and tasks and so on to get through and sort of want to put on a wig of invisibility and slink home to watch Tivo but alas. Also! Did you know that egregarious is not a word? Don't ask me how I found this out, except that it involved two bottles of champagne, six drunk friends and one laptop computer. Oh, the vocabularian slurring.

The rest of the weekend was as crazy and colorful as wig night, but with a lot less picture-taking. I needed to come back to work to recover from all the frivolity and happiness, as these old bones were not built for long-term partying anymore. It was a good time had by all, and I can't tell you how happy and thankful I am to have friends and fellow knitters who love to carry on and eat cake and laugh as much as I do. I am truly blessed!

Faith made me Oma's Chocolate Cake for my birthday and I think I ate the entire thing.

I demand proof that you still knit, Laurie.

Fantastic wigs!! I love that the guys went for it, too!! You're so cute, I love the Hello Kitty tiara. Man, do those cakes look DELISH!!! I hope that you had wonderful birthday!

Yay! It looks like you had an absolutely wonderful time. And I love that last picture of you and your friend. You're so cute

Posted by: Christine at June 26, 2006 12:16 PM

You got some fantastic pics! I was admiring them each in turn, when I came to one of Laurie Ann. I thought to myself, "Aww, look! There's Laurie Ann knitting and, OMG THAT'S MY ASS!" It's a lovely picture of Laurie Ann though... maybe I can crop out my ass for her...

I never did properly wish you a happy birthday. So here it is! Happy birthday, Laurie!!!

Hello Kitty! That looks like such a fun time! I'm jealous. :) Welcome back to a full week of work... (sorry - I'm a downer!)

Posted by: Tami at June 26, 2006 12:20 PM

That look hilarious!! What a hoot! I need to have my birthday at a yarn shop/ snb. How fun.

Love the wigs and the Soba of extreme power!

Even better than I pictured it! Who's the cutie with the camera? Just curious.....

What a fun birthday you had! :) I love the wigs and cake.

Posted by: turtlegirl76 at June 26, 2006 12:27 PM

You are very lucky to have such a fun loving bunch of friend to celebrate with! And what great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Posted by: Nancy Knits at June 26, 2006 12:28 PM

I love the Bacardi and Cola / Starsky & Hutch shots! Did you happen to check your US mail box sometime in the past week?

Posted by: Jenny at June 26, 2006 12:28 PM

Okay, the cakes look FANTASTIC, and the wigs, are a hoot, especially the Charlie's Angels girls! My favorite, though, is the turquoise wig, so the burning question in my mind is, WHERE CAN I GET ONE??? The other burning question is, WHERE IS YOUR WIG???

Glad you had a fun birthday. :-)

Posted by: Mary in Virginia at June 26, 2006 12:30 PM

What fun! And the Soba looks great in that box! (And how come no one told me Faith was a supermodel?)

Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at June 26, 2006 12:31 PM

Yeah, where's YOUR wig, Missy?? What a great party that looks like!!

Posted by: Judy at June 26, 2006 12:33 PM

THREE birthday cakes! Now there's a popular woman!

Posted by: Anne at June 26, 2006 12:36 PM

Second picture, guy with flag t-shirt and blond wig? ADORABLE.

All of the pictures are adorable, as are you Birthday Lady, but that dude just makes me howl.

Posted by: canknitian at June 26, 2006 12:36 PM

Love the "Soba in her bunker" shot. She looks like she could run the whole world from in there if she had the proper support staff and a bank of computers.

Glad you enjoyed your birthday celebration(s)!

Posted by: Ellen at June 26, 2006 12:37 PM

Okay, all birthdays should be that fun! Next one involves all my knitting friends. Glad you were the center of attention and you have such great friends.

Posted by: Trixie at June 26, 2006 12:37 PM

WIGS and KNITTING and CAKE, Oh My!
We're not in Kansas anymore, Soba...

Posted by: Reenie at June 26, 2006 12:38 PM

Drew makes me blush...

Happy Birthday Darlin'!

As much as I love my Chix with Stix, the WeHo SnB definitely knows how to party.

Posted by: Miss Wendy at June 26, 2006 12:44 PM

Ooh, the WeHo SnB looks like fun. I love those neon-colored party wigs, too. Eat (more) cake!

Posted by: Samantha at June 26, 2006 12:50 PM

Heehee...what's with the wigs and knitters? I donned a Hallowig for my knitting night party, but I won't be showing that until tomorrow.

Posted by: Gina at June 26, 2006 01:04 PM

Now Sachi's post last Friday is starting to make a lot more sense. I did start to worry that perhaps you had gotten lost in Ikea over the weekend. I'm glad you had a great birthday weekend. My season is still going on and will continue to do so for at least a month.

Posted by: Dagny at June 26, 2006 01:09 PM

you look so beautiful! Did you just turn 35!!! I knew it!! glad you had a good birthday weekend... you earned it!

Posted by: Cookie at June 26, 2006 01:58 PM

I LOVE the picture of SOBO in a box... love love love it...

Posted by: Cheryl in PA at June 26, 2006 02:24 PM

oh, what FUN!!!! and those cakes probably tasted as good as they looked, didn't they?! i'm glad it was such a great evening for y'all :)

Posted by: michele at June 26, 2006 02:32 PM

I must know the source for the wigs! Surely they didn't come from Ikea?
Sorry - didn't mean to call you Surely, Laurie : )

Posted by: tinker at June 26, 2006 03:24 PM

I think Laurie needs to get a picture of The Soba wearing the Hello Kitty Tiara...which one of them would end up with the most wounds from that battle? (Just kidding Laurie - I wouldn't really wish you to risk life and limb like that...)

Posted by: Tami at June 26, 2006 03:36 PM

Egregious + gregarious = egregarious? :)

All y'all are crazy and wonderful! It's almost enough to make a Southern girl want to move to LA! Love Soba's hideout, by the way. Now we must pretend we don't see her....

Oh Crap! Sorry for the double post folks! Stupid work computer.

Posted by: Tami at June 26, 2006 03:42 PM

I thought the wig night was great, I just wish I’d got the memo so I could have come up with some sort of head cover. It was nice to see you and the ladies again, I hope to make it back to SnB soon. It’s hard for me what with it being north of the 10 and all, but well worth it for the good company.

Posted by: shananigans at June 26, 2006 03:44 PM

that bottom photo is by far my favourite. Gold

Posted by: daniel at June 26, 2006 03:51 PM

What'd Drew send you??

Posted by: marissa at June 26, 2006 03:53 PM

Drew gave me a lovely pink Lantern Moon knitting bag!

Soba will not wear a tiara. Although I once put post-it notes all over her. hee hee.

Posted by: laurie at June 26, 2006 03:58 PM

just a note to Soba....How long did the post-its last? I put a mini hat on my cat (not even a real one - it was a large toe to a sock that I'd started crocheting and never finished) - she looked really befuddled...and kind of sad. It wasn't on her long enough to get a picture though.

Posted by: Tami at June 26, 2006 04:13 PM

What a blast! If my SnB group had been all wigged out and drinking like fiends the first time I'd gone I would decided I'd met life long knitting friends who know how to have a good time.

Oh, thought about you Friday night. Went out and had real honest to goodness Southern BBQ ribs and listened to a southern blues band play. The ribs are to die for and I had BBQ sauce up to my elbows.

Happy Birthday.

Posted by: Debbie at June 26, 2006 05:02 PM

Wow, looks like you had a blast!

What was the pink thing?? Enquiring minds want to know.

Posted by: peeve at June 26, 2006 05:24 PM

That was such a fun night! I was so glad to share in the birthday frivolities and to finally meet you. I still wish I had worn a wig, though. Oh, well. :)

Posted by: Catherine at June 26, 2006 05:51 PM

What a blast you must have had! Don't worry about the ones that fled SnB in terror, their curiosity will get the better of them & they'll be back, once suitably sedated.

Was I the only person who thought the SnBers were going to wear knitted wigs?

Posted by: Sue F. at June 26, 2006 05:55 PM

Looks so fun!

glad it was happy - you are glowing!

Posted by: lisa at June 26, 2006 06:40 PM

Oh my gawd. Y'all were such a glamorous bunch. But I have two questions: (1) who were those women with the new baby that toughed it out? They were really nice! and (2) WHO MADE THE GINGERSNAPS?!?!? Those were TO DIE for. Man, they were good. I had four and took eight home (where I had four more before the Jman could get to them.) Good times.

It was great to see you out and about. :)

Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at June 26, 2006 11:21 PM

Looks like you had a blast of a birthday. But where was YOUR hot pink wig, girl? WHERE? WHERE?

Posted by: Jen at June 26, 2006 11:30 PM

Looks like you had a great time! :) Now, what was the "perfect pink gift"? (you got yourself a curious crowd around here!) :) That cake made me hungry and craving for anything with a gazillion calories... Thanks a lot! ;-)

LOL, this was not me trying to make a point through repetition... It was either the server or my computer acting up. Sorry!

Posted by: Juliana at June 27, 2006 05:18 AM

Happy birthday and well done for partying so hard. And that cake - it make me delurk! YUM.

Posted by: amanda j at June 27, 2006 06:05 AM

I have a little purple lantern moon bag..I love it...perfect for hauling sock knitting around with you

Get that recipe for the gingersnaps!!!

Loved your party...looks like such fun..

Posted by: Cheryl in PA at June 27, 2006 06:28 AM

Now THAT'S a birthday party! Wine, cakes, wigs. Wine. Who wouldn't have fun?!?!
But, I'm curious, does the knitting turn out okay after such partyage? I can hardly crochet even rows when I'm sober. LOL

Posted by: Ang at June 27, 2006 06:45 AM

Laurie, I hope you don't mind me doing this.

I was the Gingersnaps Pimp at the SnB. Here is the recipe for you and yours. I like to double the amount of ginger to two teaspoons for that added zing.

YEA! Crazy b-day fun! Hey, Laurie, do you really like Jose Gonzalez? Has he played Amsterdam yet? We should go! (Only because I've never been to Holland.) Also, whose Oma was it? Faith's? Did her Oma teach her to knit?

P.S. You are looking hawt in Hello Kitty!

Posted by: Petra at June 27, 2006 04:14 PM

Oh, honey pie - I'm SUCH a loser! I totally forgot the great day (spank me!)

I think the caption for birthday-ellen-darcy should be:

"Be a doll and get me a martini - oh, and an ashtray!" spoken in Joisy-ese

MWA! Many happy returns of the day, you child! You're so much younger than me (but oh so wise!)

I second the comment about the "blonde" in the flag T-shirt. Very cute picture!

Oooohhh...not that the party didn't look like somewhere I'd rather be...but I just found you and I have to say...your Soba looks like our Bitty, who went seeking her Great Reward around December some time...complete with half harlequin face...she was like a boxer when defending us from cats seen thru the door...all sleek and diamond tapered waist...so territorial our rugs still reek...and we miss her so...your Frankie is so like our precious Katie...who gradually stopped eating about 4 months after Bitty left and tolerated medicine and vet visits for our sake as she slowly took her leave...SERIOUSLY...sorry for the pathos...BUT...if anyone is contemplating adopting this sort of cat...Calico and Tortoishell, I guess...they are the sweetest and most intelligent and lovliest beasts to have in a home! Thanks for sharing them so well.
