Mesmerized by the evil beauty of Soba...must...look...away!!!!!
Posted by: Erin at June 6, 2006 10:19 AM
how cute!! i got two kittens just last week and they are killing me they are so cute. i think i'm going to become a cat picture posting person myself. come see!! can't believe i might be first...
Posted by: jessi at June 6, 2006 10:19 AM
Truly, it is rather embarrassing to be known as the crazy cat lady who posts pictures of her herd of felines ... but I figure since everyone probably has already got my number, I may as well succumb to the cuteness. And evilness. Soba's personality manages to show through in her photos, it's insane!
Posted by: laurie at June 6, 2006 10:24 AM
When in doubt, placate the cat lovers! How do you get such good photos of them? Mine look away, close their eyes, move, fidget, plus I can't get this close to them with the camera. Do you use a flash? Or just take all your kitty pix in daylight? But then, you make stuff look good for a living.
Posted by: Anne at June 6, 2006 10:25 AM
Love the preciousness.
Posted by: Nancy Knits at June 6, 2006 10:25 AM
Thanks for the kitty p0rn! Roy looks really good! And that Bob. Makes a girl melt, doesn't he?
Posted by: Jenny at June 6, 2006 10:27 AM
I love a good close up!

Laurie, I sent you some pictures to the address under your "email" me, since I am always lurking at yours.

Posted by: spc at June 6, 2006 10:29 AM
Anne, I think the best way to capture the herd on film is to stay away from flash whenever possible. I try to go with natural light, or a well-lit room (natural light is best, though) and I get them when they're sleepy, so there is less movement.
Also, my cats sleep like 23.57 hours a day, so this is easy LOL.
Try to get at the same level as the cat (this finds me squirming on the floor more often than not) and take way more pictures than you could ever need -- at least one of 30 will be good! That's my philosophy, anyway.
But natural light whenever possible -- definitely.

soba. wow. scary.
Posted by: smokeyJoe at June 6, 2006 10:30 AM
Heck, I have a feeling there are a lot of Crazy Cat Ladies who visit this site. My friends got tired of saying all three words, so they shortened it to "CCL." And owing to the fact that I have rescued 19 cats, 6 dogs and 1 large green parrot off the streets of Baltimore in the last 5 years, I get called a CCL all the time. You learn to live with it. Your pics are mucho cool, BTW.
Posted by: marcia at June 6, 2006 10:31 AM
Hope they feel as good as they look. Good job Doctor-Vet Purl.
Posted by: psychomom at June 6, 2006 10:42 AM
Hmmm...photos of Soba and today's date is 6/6/06. Coincidence?
Posted by: Martigny at June 6, 2006 10:42 AM
Very cute!
I just want to squeeze them. :D
Posted by: Kelly at June 6, 2006 10:43 AM
AWWWW! I can't pick a favorite - I love 'em all!
Posted by: Carol M at June 6, 2006 10:59 AM
just want to pinch their little cheeks... well, except for Soba, who has threatened my life through the computer screen if I were to even dare touch her with my froggy human fingers
Posted by: Amy at June 6, 2006 11:03 AM
That was the scariest 06/06/06 post on the blogosphere today!
Posted by: Neil at June 6, 2006 11:15 AM
Frankie is my favourite.
Or maybe Roy.
Or Bob.
Or Soba (mainly 'cause I'm afraid she'll kick my ass if I don't give her a mention!)
No, no. I stand by my original assertion... Frankie is my favourite.
Posted by: Julie at June 6, 2006 11:24 AM
Gotta love the kitties.
Posted by: Giovanna at June 6, 2006 11:25 AM
Sorry but my vote is for Bob and Roy. How adorable!
Posted by: Dagny at June 6, 2006 11:26 AM
How can I pick a favorite? Bob and Roy are SOOOO Handsome! Soba is scary gorgeous and Frankie is beautiful with personality!
You've got a beautiful family. Clawwed and shedding, but beautiful always!
Posted by: mctwin at June 6, 2006 11:40 AM
I needed cat photos so bad today!! I am locked to my computer by my boss doing unpleasant billing stuff!! It is so nice to see Roy and the gang doing what they do best....hanging, playing, sleeping, (yes...pooping--"no photos please!" says Frankie) and enjoying quality time!
Posted by: robinv at June 6, 2006 11:41 AM
Soba almost looks demure in that last pic! (She must be plotting).
Posted by: Tina at June 6, 2006 11:41 AM
laurie, do you give your cats baths? i'm asking because i'm under the impression that Roy is of a venerable age and looks super fluffy and soft. my Raoul no spring chicken and is pretty greasy with one Fang of Death. of course, he's an outside cat. but it's kinda embarrassing.
on the other hand, giving him a bath...
Posted by: smokeyJoe, CCL at June 6, 2006 11:43 AM
Ah... there's nothing better than a kitty montage...
Posted by: Sachi at June 6, 2006 11:45 AM
my tycho had to go in this morning because he was totally blocked and could not pee. it broke my heart. he has to stay overnight. argh! was not expecting this. cannot imagine what it was like to deal with 4 sick at the same time. i need a beer. or 2. or 3.
there goes the budget.
but he will get better, that is the main thing.
Posted by: zina at June 6, 2006 11:53 AM
Never realized that Soba and Frankie had mirror-image markings on their faces (noses, specifically). Way cool! But my favorite pic is the out-of-focus Bob sniffing the camera - cute!

Ready for a big fat comment you shouldn't have to read? I am at work and was thinking about the reasons I love your page 1) it is just plain text mostly which means even though everyone can see my computer I can still read it without suspicion in the middle of the day when I have things to do. 2) I think people think I have been sick fo a long time because I honest laugh OUT lOUD alot and have to cough and cover my grin and try and look productive and sinister. Anyway, I really really really love your blog and keep on keeping on for the rest of us who aren't as funny and heartwarming:)

I want to come kidnap Bob...too bad the allergies curse me!
I was at this goofy store a couple weekends ago and discovered they were selling the Crazy Cat Lady action figure...too funny!

Posted by: Barbara from Nova Scotia at June 6, 2006 12:39 PM
Soba has the same look my Winnie does. Always so serious and just stares you down. Frightning little aliens, aren't they?
Posted by: Leslie at June 6, 2006 12:50 PM
Surely they'd wait until you're dead? Otherwise they might have eaten you alive already (maybe they're just waiting until the tuna runs out. . . )
Is everyone off the medication yet?
Posted by: jodi at June 6, 2006 12:57 PM
I notice you had to give them each equal time.

Say Laurie,
You would tell us if you got say another cat, or maybe 36 more ... Right? Cause we would want to know if you were going to become a cat lady or something like that. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
Posted by: Forest Green at June 6, 2006 01:39 PM
I LOVE the gratuitous kitty pics - my favorite! Bring on the kitty cam!

Is it wrong that I want to be Soba when I grow up? All Soba, all the time.
Posted by: Dusa at June 6, 2006 01:45 PM
So cute--and they all look, dare I whisper it.....healthy!
Little late on this--but I have a knitting project for you. I too needed something that was appropriate for the season--now stay with me because these are CUTE. The Regia Journal--Fashion Socks issue has a pattern for short toed socklets that you wear with flip flops. I have made 3 pairs so far--used the self-striping yarn--adorable. Had to read the instructions 63 bazillion times because I DON'T DO SOCKS--I buy socks. Anyway--they are not that hard AND if you screw up, it will be where the big toe joins the rest of the pigs and the flip flop covers it. I'm making a pair for everyone I know. By the way, you can use the long needle, pull through method (wish I could remember the name of it) before switching to double points. Do it!
Posted by: pam at June 6, 2006 02:12 PM
Pam, I think you mean magic loop. Does 5 cats qualify me for CCLness? It had better.
Posted by: Lucia at June 6, 2006 02:23 PM
They are adorable. I wish I had some cats or a cuddly dog to curl up with right now, especially after what happened yesterday and today. Can I borrow Roy?
Posted by: RishaMoonshadow at June 6, 2006 02:46 PM
Definition of "Crazy Cat Lady" as told to me by the receptionist at my vet's office:
"If you have two cats, you simply got the second one to keep the first company. Once you go over two, you have entered the realm of Crazy Cat Lady because often there is no stopping yourself at that point."
Posted by: Dagny at June 6, 2006 02:53 PM
In words of MR. Blunt - "you're beautiful, you're beautiful . . . .." Thank you, Laurie, and all of your beautiful companions - you make my soul feel beautiful!
Posted by: audie at June 6, 2006 03:40 PM
Everyone is feeling so-so at Chez Pox On Your House, I think (surprisingly) Roy has made the best recovery... but of course he is on medication that is incredible (read: mucho expensivo) and he gets it twice a day, with lots of carrying on and foolishness. I am terrified now anytime one of them sneezes. Frankie sneezed last night and I was up for two hours scrutinizing her for signs of re-illness. The month of medicating all four apparently scarred me (well, and you know, also scarred me! claws!)
On a completely unrelated note, YOU MUST ALL SEE THIS!!!!!

Laurie,
That is way too cute! Now...who thought of dressing the piggies up as tigers? Do you think they're real shots or photoshopped?
Posted by: Tami at June 6, 2006 04:23 PM
I have a cat that looks very much like your Frankie. I'll have to see if I have a decent picture of her somewhere and email it to ya.

SO adorable!! I am in awe of your ability to manage four, Laurie. We have two, and are outnumbered. They're way smarter than we are.
Husband gave me one of these for Christmas:

I might have been offended were he not as crazy about the furballs as I am.

Laurie, that site you referred us to, with the baby pigs? Did you read the "hot links" section? Definitely NSFW.
So what are you doing hanging out at that kind of site?? :)
Posted by: rb at June 6, 2006 05:07 PM
omg!! they are adorable!! your soba looks much like our autumn. i suspect that all torties work on the same evil wavelength.
love the crazy cat lady doll. i have two--both were gifts. odd thing is, of our nine, six were my husband's!!
thank you for sharing the pics!

Lovin' all your felines, but the one with the blue eyes is to die for. I want a white kitty with blue eyes and a pink nose in the worst way.
Posted by: Jennifer at June 6, 2006 05:23 PM
Oh DUH, I just noticed Karen posted the Crazy Cat Lady action figure link before I did. I am braindead.
Did I mention that my husband's name is Roy? And my father is...Bob?

Did y'all hear that the "evolution of dance" guy was interviewed by Matt Lauer on this morning's Today show?? I caught a bit of him performing live today on MSNBC's Countdown.
They said that the clip has gotten over TWO MILLION hits in the past couple of weeks!!
Thanks for the great pictures, Laurie. could the cats BE any cuter????

One of my oldest friends - a guy - is positive that I'm destined to become a CCL, even though I (currently) only have two. He seems concerned, like it would be a bad thing.....

I didn't realize Roy had such beautiful blue eyes until today. All four look fabulous and healthy- and happy (well, in her last picture Sobakawa looks like an angry owl, but other than that... )
You obviously did a fantastic job working with your Vet to get them well again, Laurie. Be proud of yourself- and them- for the patience and persistence.
Alice ( CCL) and Mr.Alice ( CCM)
Mr. Alice is still asleep and cuddling with Smoochie, our calico who he calls his " Pussycat Doll." The rest of the crew is demanding their tartar-control crunchies and I won't be able to leave the house until I give each their daily portion. They get the crunchies 5 days a week and the hairball control chompers ( my older, 1-fang gals get the soft and chewy ones) the other two days. If only giving them meds when needed was so easy!
Posted by: Alice at June 7, 2006 05:24 AM

Very rakish! I am not so sure I know what the word means but it is the first one that came to mind. How earth do you live in a small house with four cats? My one cat is enough! Don't they fight with each other?

HA! It's taken me over TWO WEEKS, but I've finally caught up to current day CAP!
Yes... I'm completely serious. Apparently, I don't only have closure issues, but opening issues as well. I had to read ALL THE PAST ENTRIES before I could start reading the current ones.
I don't even knit (even though I have lots of knitting stuff because I WANT to knit... really I do! But I apparently don't have that much patience.) but I've been really enjoying your blog.
I'm thankful for several things:
1- I'm not the only person who can't read a digital clock unless picturing the time on a face clock.
2- I'm not the only person who has a "front back" and a "back back" backyard. And ours is also often referred to as the "back 40". We really have you beat in the weed department, though. House built (by my great grandparents!) in 1939... what is it about seperating it into two lots? No hedges... but a red picket fence and a broke down shack. Which, by the way, I s'pose you could live in if it came to that!
3- You remind me that 35 is NOT as old as I sometimes feel! Plus... I am a crazy cat lady, too.
And while I'm playing catch up (didn't seem right to comment on OLD entries?) I wanted to bring up the "STORM WATCH 2006!!" newscasts. Having lived in SoCal all my life, I can attest that our news wasn't always this bad! Anyway... we refer to the news thusly:
Rain -- "The Shit's Wet Show!"
Fire -- "The Shit's Burning Show!"
Earthquake -- "The Shit's Shaking Show!"
and so on. Oh.. and while I'm talking about "Breaking news"... When I was a bartender, all my customers would flock to the bar whenever there was a televised car chase as they knew I'd be running "Stupid People on Parade" specials.
Ahhhh California news. There's nothing like it.
Ok... this is probably long enough as it is... just wanted to say THANK YOU for being you!
