So addicted to you (tube)

Who says the internets are just for porn?

Hi, my name is Laurie and I am a You Tube addict. I have been clean and sober for 14 minutes.

But I can't help it! Where else can you find podcasting explained by a ninja, Jon Stewart (I heart you!) taking on John McCain, that awful Brandon Whatshisname talking smack about La Lohan, some car hopping in the Valley, the evolution of dance, K-Fed and his no-production-value bizarro video for PopoZao, the funniest spoof of the aforementioned K-Fed EVAH, and of course when it's all over you can get inspired to practice your crip walk.

I love the internets.

My husband is addicted to Youtube.com as well. All evening long he's "look at this" and "can you believe this??" etcetera.

Now I have to go and look. I don'think my house is big enough for 2 addicts!

Posted by: Liz R at May 23, 2006 09:44 AM

I was over there last night, looking for the SNL skit with Chris Kattan "Todd from Goth Talk", receiving a Mickey Mouse phone for Christmas. Couldn't find it. :(
Although I've played the TBS commercial of The Lord of the Rings, with Frodo and Sam as lovers, over & over!

Posted by: Jill at May 23, 2006 09:48 AM

Jill, I did a search for Chris Kattan and instead found the video for "Take On Me" by A-Ha. Apparently I have not yet mastered the youtube :)

Gonna have to check it out with all the hoopla!
Laurie, I totally heart Jon Stewart too.

Posted by: Brianne at May 23, 2006 09:52 AM

I like all the movie preview parodies.

Posted by: Melissa A. at May 23, 2006 09:52 AM

Ok where have I been? With all the time I waste at work you'd think I would have already discovered this?

Must go there now :)

Posted by: Miss Mantoan at May 23, 2006 09:54 AM

Please tell me you have seen this one. I can't remember when I laughed that hard.

Ah yes, you tube. big favorite of those of us who like to avoid work.
Some other great ones that Chase turned me on to:

Posted by: Crystal at May 23, 2006 09:56 AM

Miss Mantoan -- it is one of the VERY few things not (yet) blocked by the firewall at work and I swear my entire department at work will have to form a 12-step group when it gets blocked, because I have gotten everyone hooked. I am their pusher.

I am absurdly in love with all the cripwalking videos. If I can be a chubby 35 year old white woman with a raging crip walk, I could die happy ;) heheheheh

Brianne -- Jon Stewart is my second TV love, after Anderson Cooper of course ;)

Posted by: laurie at May 23, 2006 09:57 AM

Uh oh. You're speaking that language I don't understand again. OK, I know who Stewart and McCain are, but after that? Utterly clueless.

Posted by: Lucia at May 23, 2006 09:59 AM

Hi Crystal!! Heather, yes, I love that one :) Melissa, I need to watch MORE youtube, I guess, because the movie parodies have not made my radar yet!

Liz, I am sorry, I am now your pusher too LOL

Posted by: laurie at May 23, 2006 09:59 AM

Lucia, that is what is so cool about youtube, it's like... edumacational. Fo reals.

Posted by: laurie at May 23, 2006 09:59 AM

dude, just when i think i can't waste any more time with the internets...

i wonder if i can figure out a way to bill this time?

Posted by: maeve at May 23, 2006 10:01 AM

Maeve. If you figure that out I will marry you.

Posted by: laurie at May 23, 2006 10:04 AM

I do searches on the word "dachshund" and watch homemade dachshund videos! Too fun!

Posted by: Cecelia at May 23, 2006 10:04 AM

The Evolution of Dance is about the funniest thing ever. I love that you love it. Have you seen Monty Python in Legos? It's great.

Posted by: Jo at May 23, 2006 10:05 AM

You are the funniest! Keep bloggin!

I am a You Tube virgin, but at this very moment, I am watching Louis Black on HBO via You Tube. Viva internets!

Posted by: mellys at May 23, 2006 10:08 AM

I too am a YouTube junkie. I recently tried to get coworkers hooked on it as well. My current fave is this one.

I am sad to hear that you are not coming in June:( My gay boyfriend just left for 2 months in Europe. I am so jealous.

Posted by: Crystal at May 23, 2006 10:11 AM

Laurie,

Anderson is going to be on Oprah today!

Alas, my company has blocked streaming media. But has anyone seen Gino the dancing ginny (sic)? So funny.

Also, (I know I'm rambling) I had a dream about John Stewart last week. What does it mean?

Posted by: Kim in CT at May 23, 2006 10:13 AM

Kim, it means you're going to marry him. :)

Crystal, I am jealous for 2 months in Europe, too! I need a gay boyfriend. Also: Come visit me.

Oh my God-- I've been lurking for a while, and must proclaim my love for youtube. I enjoy watching old Daily show bits w/ Stephen Colbert, who may just take over that space I have in my heart for Jon Stewart.

Posted by: Anne at May 23, 2006 10:31 AM

Oooh! Have you seen the LOST season finale trailer?

Heh,heh. I got so sucked in to youtube I forgot to leave a comment.

Posted by: Jenny at May 23, 2006 10:46 AM

I am not even venturing over. I am not clicking one of those links. Nope.

Posted by: Gina at May 23, 2006 10:51 AM

Oh the horror of K-Fed and PopoZao...of course I had to watch it twice!

Posted by: Susannah at May 23, 2006 11:10 AM

I heart JS, but cannot get enough of the truthiness of Colbert. My work is evil in that they block ANYTHING streaming and do not give us sound cards. Sigh...not so much time entertaining searches from home, too much parenting to do.

Posted by: Trixie at May 23, 2006 11:11 AM

Crap, I can't access it from work... Darned internet usage policy!!

Posted by: Rhett at May 23, 2006 11:13 AM

Glad it's not just me. I think I've put in a grand total of 17 seconds of actual work this week.

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem.

Posted by: jason at May 23, 2006 11:15 AM

Umm, ya , thanks - I just got fired.

Posted by: paloma at May 23, 2006 11:21 AM

Ok, so I didn't, but I will be, cause I am HOOKED.

Posted by: paloma at May 23, 2006 11:21 AM

One of the things I love about my job -- no blocking of websites at all. At least I have yet to come across a blocked one. The only thing they'll come after you for here is downloading songs and movies.

Posted by: Dagny at May 23, 2006 11:22 AM

You must also check out MOJOFLIX!

Posted by: Skylar at May 23, 2006 11:30 AM

YouTube is "Access Denied" for me at work. :( And I was really trying to watch the Evolution of Dance the other day. I feel totally deprived. My connection at home is too slow to play it.

Posted by: Tami at May 23, 2006 11:30 AM

Ooo, and on MOjoflix, there are two Dave Chapelle classics from Charlie Murphy...Rick James and Prince. SO GOOD!

Posted by: Skylar at May 23, 2006 11:31 AM

Did you read the comments under the KFed spoof? Oh, my, almost as funny as the spoof itself.

Yikes...some people have way too much time on their hands (pot, meet kettle)

Posted by: Beth at May 23, 2006 11:34 AM

You Tube is filtered because of "Illegal or Questionable content" (I am a high school teacher.) I am SO following the link from home!

I too am a latecomer to YouTube; someone just sent me the Evolution of Dance link last week.

But recently I did discover -- in fact thanks to this briliant community of commenters who responded to your April call for funny pet stories -- Metacafe.com.

Starting with the initial funny-cats clip someone posted, I proceeded to sit upright in an uncomfortable dining room chair for I-kid-you-not two hours one night browsing and viewing wherever it took me. Right through daughter's bedtime, right through my own bedtime. Husband finally came out to ask what I was laughing so hard about. :)

(So, thanks to y'all!!)

Posted by: Molly at May 23, 2006 02:03 PM

Molly, we aim to please :)

David OH MY GOSH, that link... that link...

I'm off to a staff meeting then I'm off to ride home in my Jeep, my true love, because it is sunny and spring and I must escape.

No matter how freaky we are, we can always be reassured that there are freakier people out there!

Okay, am I the only human on earth who didn't know that Gloria Vanderbuilt is Anderson Cooper's mother?!

Posted by: Kim in CT at May 23, 2006 03:42 PM

Kim, I didn't know that either. I saw it in Vanity Fair and I was like "Whut...?!"

Posted by: laurie at May 23, 2006 03:50 PM

I still need to read that article in Vanity Fair. (Of course I started with the Nicole Ritchie article.) Thanks for the heads up.

Posted by: Dagny at May 23, 2006 03:51 PM

Billions of dollars' worth of technology and this is what we come up with. Gotta be a lesson in there somewhere. That You Tube stuff is too funny. Evolution of Dance wasn't blocked at night two nights ago, but that doesn't mean it won't be blocked tonight! Wah!

Posted by: Sue F. at May 23, 2006 03:57 PM

Well, now it all makes sense that Anderson dresses so well. I'm still gobsmacked.

Posted by: Kim in CT at May 23, 2006 04:03 PM

So, do you knit anymore?

Posted by: Susan at May 23, 2006 04:46 PM

Ahhh... see, and here I was just thinking the other day 'I should send Laurie a link to YouTube.' Figures, huh?

Well, since you've been there already, how about here?

http://boingboing.net/

Added bonus, they are featuring the square watermelons on there today. Have you planted yours yet?

Oh, and I finally started a blog.... however, nothing to see there folks, just move along!

So strange. I JUST finished watching "The Evolution of Dance" (as mentioned by my AP lit teacher), and then I went to check your page out, and there it is.

Posted by: Erin at May 23, 2006 10:18 PM

My son (who's 14) loves You Tube and has recently started making stop frame animated movies with his old lego men ( He never played with them when he was little!) which he posts on the site. His plan is to make a full lenth stop frame movie this summer. If it keeps him busy I'm all for it!

Posted by: Ella at May 24, 2006 04:50 AM

Evolution of Dance is excellent--I laughed my butt off when I watched that one--twice.

Posted by: Cathy at May 24, 2006 06:50 AM

It is 12:02 PM here in Virginia and I am sitting in my pajamas (I hope no one rings the doorbell) watching Youtube.com videos since about 8:30 this morning. No beds are fixed, no housework or laundry done.

I am officially addicted. If I only had a giant bag of cheese doodles (sigh).

Posted by: Liz R at May 24, 2006 09:06 AM

Susan, no.

I am medicating four cats twice a day, I am so stressed out I have knit nothing in weeks. Want to knit me something? Like maybe a wineglass?

Posted by: laurie at May 24, 2006 09:08 AM

Laurie & Friends...

Don't know if you've seen this, since its not on YouTube, but absolutely hilarious! Especially for all you cat lovers out there...

Well now you've gone and done it! Have been explaining to 14-year-old son, "why would we get high speed internet that costs big bucks(after they convince you that a gillion gigs is not enough, you should really get the bugazilliongillion for just a few mega-dollars more, and by the way, you need a modem, and what about phone service while we're at it, it's a package), when I can get dial up for free via work?"

The DSL will be here Tuesday....I'm gonna be a wreck Wednesday morning at work.

Love your blog....can I share your "All about the bottom" essay with folks at work (crediting the author, of course...no plagerizing here).
