He's a Magic Man
Ha! Now you'll be singing "... mama... he's a magic maaaan..." for an hour. Whoops!
But he is magic. And next time you're in Los Angeles, you should make an appointment for the magic, too. I love getting my hair cut with Aharon (pronounced like "Aaron," but spelled so much cooler) because he works his magic while also exuding so much cuteness.

Aharon's assistant Aneta is one of the nicest people you'll meet, and she was rockin the Deborah Harry/Blondie look yesterday:

I don't get my hair cut on a frequent basis because of the evil (yet good) Budget Of Stop Spending Money. But it's my one splurge every few months, and Aharon is the one person I have found who makes me feel like a million bucks ... even if I walk in feeling like a buck fifty. If you're ever in Crazytown and you want to meet this Magic Man and have him work his voodoo on your hair, he's at:
Umberto Beverly Hills
416 N Canon Dr
Beverly Hills, CA 90210
(310) 274-6395
Then later, you can drive around with the windows out of your Jeep (or in a rented convertable, it's Crazytown!) in the middle of the day, wearing the most ginormous sunglasses on the planet and pretending to be a washed-up child star from the '70s.
Not that I know anyone who does that, of course.

Someone is suspiciously devoid of bangs. Ahem.

A knitty friend of mine brought me to you over the square watermelons. A day doesnt past that I dont read your blog. YOU ROCK!!
Posted by: Alicia at March 23, 2006 07:51 AM
You look smashing dahling! We should not discuss the bangs, for the bangs are evil in their own impish way.
Posted by: Melanie at March 23, 2006 07:53 AM
I am pretty sure the previous commenter WAS NOT referring to the size of your sunglasses when she mentioned watermelons....
I'm just sayin'....

So no go on the red?
You look great! Now you're all set to break hearts in Paris!

Awesone - no bangs and still blonde! You're smashing, dahling! ;}

Nice new 'do! And Jeeps were made for riding without windows...and doors, if you can do that one! :)
Posted by: Yvonne at March 23, 2006 08:06 AM
Aharon suggested it was maybe not a good idea to try a bold new look when one is about to leave on vacation, especially if one has the habit of photographing every single thing they do all day long LOL. Good advice, i think ;)
Posted by: laurie at March 23, 2006 08:21 AM
He kinda looks like Mr. Bean in that picture(a young mr.bean!). Love his work though! And the washed up child star shades. Fabulous!

Nice hair! Nothing beats a good hair day!!!

Laurie Dahlin' you look fabulous and ready for Paris!
Posted by: Jacquie at March 23, 2006 08:46 AM
Simply fabulous! And I owe you an apology from over here, after my comments re: bangs, etc.... 48 hours later I promptly went out and had some of my own cut. Best idea I'd had in weeks! (I'd just gotten a roll of pics back and there was WAY too much forehead!) ;-)
Posted by: Lynn in Tucson at March 23, 2006 08:49 AM
I think you have to be one of the silliest and most adorable bloggers out there. I really get a hoot from reading your blog. I'm also crying in my coffee because I recently got my hair cut, and it wasn't at all as great as your experience. I really did feel like a buck-fifty.
Posted by: Gina at March 23, 2006 08:52 AM
Your hair is fab-U-lus! I love it. If it's one thing I definitely recommend splurging on is a good cut. :) While I like the idea of bangs on you, I'm lovin' the sunglasses more. :D
Posted by: Kim at March 23, 2006 08:52 AM
Aharon... good at his job AND smart AND cute. The perfect man! You look fabulous!
Posted by: Noelle at March 23, 2006 08:53 AM
Ju look mahvelous, dahling.
Noelle, you know what they say about the perfect man. Say it ain't so!
Posted by: Lucia at March 23, 2006 08:56 AM
yay! no bangs. See you didn't need those silly things to be as smashing as you are!! I got my hair cut day before yesterday... the only thing mentioned was trimming the splits off the bangs. My husband was grateful I didn't go for the 3rd grade look like last year.
Tell us when you are leaving for Paris and will your blog sit idle or are you blogging from Paris! (We hope you are, but if you want a true vacation, the laptop should stay with the cats...they can blog! I can't wait to read Soba's blog!)>^..^<
Posted by: robinv at March 23, 2006 09:05 AM
Very nice...but wanna see more hair, less sunglasses! Good you did not get bangs, I did. I regret. It was a bad move. They are growing. Listen to the hairdresser gods.
Posted by: Cristina at March 23, 2006 09:16 AM
Wow, if I get real close to the monitor I can see my reflection in your sunglasses. How'd you do that?
Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at March 23, 2006 09:17 AM
Love the 'do. Love the glasses. I got a pair of oversized glasses myself, recently. They kinda make me feel like one of those ancient people shuffling down the street, protecting their cataracs.
I like your take on it much betterer.
Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at March 23, 2006 09:23 AM
I swear my mother had those very same sunglasses in 1983! Did you swipe them from her?
Posted by: Imaginarymaggie at March 23, 2006 09:25 AM
There's no substitute for a fabulous stylist, I've learned. I'm fortunate in that I've just discovered a fabulous stylist at an un-salon that doesn't take appointments (walk in only, just my style!) and only charges $24. I can tip decently and still get out the door for just under $30! Love ya, Liz at Bishops!
You're looking gawgeous, dahlink. Parisians are going to want to eat you up.
Helen

You are SO CUTE.
SO CUTE.
Posted by: Imbrium at March 23, 2006 10:10 AM
Laurie, You're adorable! Love the do. Love the sunglasses. Love the line about "child star from the '70's". Of course, you're much too young to be a child star from the 70s.
Aharon is one lucky guy. He gets to put his fingers in your hair.
Thanks for the smile. I really needed one today.
Love ya!
Posted by: Steve D. at March 23, 2006 10:19 AM
Good thing you let Aharon do his thing. Bangs are evil. Do you know how long it takes to let those things grow out? Way too long and then you have to wear silly clips and all when they get to that in-between stage. I still think you should take the plunge next time though and go for a little color.
Posted by: Dagny at March 23, 2006 10:24 AM
washed up child star -- YAY! No, let's go knock over a seven/eleven.
Posted by: Trixie at March 23, 2006 10:24 AM
FABULOUS!!
No red? No bangs? Oh the drama....
You look great though! So how did you explain to your hair dresser about the camera??
"Oh this, yeah I am addicted to sharing my life on line with random strangers and they LOVE pictures?"
Because you know we do!
See I am trying to figure out how I would word it when I start snapping pics of the people in Wal-mart with pink slippers, rollers in thier hair and no teeth walking around like nothings wrong...
Humm I need to think about that..
Posted by: Random Musings at March 23, 2006 10:27 AM
I knew that Ahren would win in the bang issue. The sunglasses remind me of Jackie O when she was married to Ari.
Posted by: Miss Wendy at March 23, 2006 10:35 AM
Yeah, I'm cheating on the hairdresser I've been going to for years with a new hairdresser (and don't think I don't feel horrible about it). But though SHE'S great (my old one), HE'S damn hot! And he gives a great haircut. And also includes a scalp massage! And And AND a hand massage! And then he runs over and picks out a lipstick just for me and applies the color himself (did I mention he's a HottieHot??). Yeah, I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad person.
p.s. Ah man, love me the Drew. His comments are always a hoot! If I wasn't so dang lazy I'd add him to my stalk-list. (Hi Drew!) ;)
Posted by: Kat at March 23, 2006 10:38 AM
Too hot, girl!
I think that those sunglasses may just be the bit of glam I have been looking for--I have been leaning toward the huge shades for a while now, but, seeing you, I realize that I MUST HAVE SOME OF THOSE!!
Hairstylists can be miracle workers (not that you needed one). Sometimes, they make the difference between a OK day, and a Fabulous day...
Posted by: Shelly at March 23, 2006 10:41 AM
congrats to you and your helpful wonderful hair care technician, aharon... the look is fine and dandy, although your mention and pondering over bangs has really got me interested in trying them again, but i got this cowlick (is that what they are called?) that is a huge pain, plus i have gotten my hair cut TWICE by a "real" stylist that i trusted and she has moved! argh! guess the hair will make it to locks of love length... so i guess i am not just jealous of your hair, but of your aharon too!
Posted by: jessica at March 23, 2006 11:07 AM
French customs may arrest you if you arrive with those sunglasses - you look like Brigitte Bardot and zey don't like her ober dere.
oh la la

As a be-banged redhead (okay, sounds dirty. Hmm) I am totally jealous of your look, and would love to trade for a day. I could NEVER look that adorable blond.
Also, of all the billions of knitting blogs in the world, you are my favourite. I even have my non-knitting blogs reading you (mostly for the Cats, but also for the Funny and the True)
Posted by: Amanda at March 23, 2006 11:34 AM
Blond, beautiful, intelligent, funny and going to Paris. I am extremely jealous.
A coworker and I were discussing blonds who pretend to be dumb to get what they want.
Do you ever find a need to play the dumb blond? Does it work?
Posted by: psychomom at March 23, 2006 11:36 AM
PS Also, I have sunglasses like that and though I laughed and shook my head when they were offered to me, they are the first sunglasses that look decent on me. Nay, even hot(t)!
Also, went to "Great" Cuts on St. Patrick's day. Before drinking. So I have no excuse and my hair looks horrible! I paid $14.99 for horrible hair! Le boo hoo.
(okay, two comments in a row is rude, but I wasn't done!)
Posted by: Amanda at March 23, 2006 11:37 AM
Your hair looks great without the bangs. Fabulous glasses - tres chic!
Posted by: Samantha at March 23, 2006 11:41 AM
Serious fabulosity. I don't know why you go on about your forehead (or fivehead), it just isn't that big. If you feel an urge for some kind of change btwn Aharon visits you can always change the part in your hair, but did I see a widow's peak that might be lost in bang-age? I am so jealous! My nana had one and I thought it was so gorgeous and striking.

Hi Laurie
Love the cool quasi-Jackie-O shades! Very chic!
Oh, and I made one of your cute little bags last night - thanks for a really cute, really easy pattern! I haven't felted it yet (as much as I want to felt it, I hate doing laundry and I hate going into the laundry room) and I don't have any cool bracelets/ring-y kind of things to use for handles yet...YET. Gotta shop for those.

Posted by: Erin at March 23, 2006 04:31 PM
The man knows what he's doing. You look good! And there's nothing wrong with a big forehead. I've got one.
Some people look good in bangs. Some people look better without them. Everyone needs to figure out what their hair wants to do and work with it, not against it. I tried bangs in 8th grade. Hoo boy. I learned bangs don't work with my hair. No no. Never tried that again. Lots of weird cowlicks made lumpy weird bangs. But if I let my hair do what it wants, then I've got nice curly hair. Don't fight your hair. You'll lose, and no one will be happy.
Cool that Aharon knows what your hair wants to do.
Posted by: Riin at March 23, 2006 04:43 PM
You look wonderful. So much so you look like a star out cruisin'.
Well, I got bangs with my last hair cut. I had grown my hair out where all of it was the same length. This was about 3 or 4 years ago. And I cut it really short but got no bangs. This time I did, cause I was just tired of seeing my forehead. But your thinking is right, it is a bit of a crutch. I am slightly weak without, not so much with.
Sweet hello kitty remote.
:)

Hey, I got my hair done yesterday, too! May the good hair karma be shared all around. Of course, I'm not leaving the country -- just going to D.C. Excuse enough, however. My hair guy's name is Don. And he's a straight grandfather. Go figure.

Laurie - you make me giggle everytime I read your blog - yours is the first and only blog I've read, of course....being 50 we are not too much accustomed to this whole blogging idea....but I have always loved reading other people's diaries...and as a psychotherapist for over 25 years...my life has been listening appreciatively (for the most part) to other people's stories...yours is a good one...I, too, divorced wrenchingly but after 18 years of marriage to a local clergyman....everyone was on HIS side - ugh....but that was 11 years ago now and I am happy, whole and in a loving long-distance relationship which is pefect if you are an old woman like me....

Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at March 24, 2006 12:35 PM
By the way, Aharon is not just spelling his name weird for the L.A. Hell of it, that's the spelling of it in Israel where they actually pronounce it like it's spelled. The problem is that some people can't seem to pronounce Hebrew names, hence he calls himself Aaron, the American way of pronouncing Aharon. I'm just assuming...

Lookin' good for Paris! You'll think I'm very pathetic but I actually just read YOUR ENTIRE BLOG because I only started reading it about two months ago and it occurred to me that I kind of needed to play catch-up, which made me feel kind of internet-stalker-y. But I am all caught up now! And, unexpevtedly, a little obsessed with voodoo.
And do you still get mail? Because I fell in love with yarn yesterday at a place called the Yarn Barn (I live in Kansas, which may explain the lame "Barn" in the title, along with the unimaginative kitschy rhyming) and I think that you might fall in love with it, too. And you could smell it all you want.

Have you run off to Paris already without telling us? We miss you, honey. I hope everything is good with you.
Posted by: Kristy at March 28, 2006 06:53 PM
I guess our dear aunt Purl really had gone to Europe! Laurie, I hope you are having a marvelous time! I used to love my single days of vacationing with just the gals!
We miss you....I would have thought Sobi would have figured out how to use the camera by now to at least keep us updated on the feline antics.
Posted by: Kim at March 28, 2006 07:16 PM
Laurie, hope you are having a fabulous time! Bring back some cool Euro yarn and post pictures! I hope the cats are not too peeved to pose for pics when you return, because I am having some serious Bob & Roy withdrawal here.

I just love how we all continue to hang out and talk on this comment area! Too funny!

Hello CAP fans! Hope everyone is OK and not having too many withdrawls.
Kitty fix......

...without so much as an "Au revoir," huh? The Aharon's cute and all, but I just wish she'd left us with one more post. Every time I check to see if she's here, I get that darn song in my head!
For those with knitblog withdrawal, I HIGHLY recommend: http://yarnstorm.blogs.com/ for the genteel and: http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/ for the irreverent.

Ok, since we're all helping each other cope with purl withdrawal, I'll contribute to the group.

It's a knitting advice column by the guy who designed Knitty's Danica.
Most of you know this one already, but just in case you don't......

the best part about this one is the fights people get into in the comments section. For God's sake, don't write an anonymous comment or you're dead!

I have a contribution - for those of us that are with Purl in spirit:

or for those that like her wacky commentary (and are not terribly thin-skinned):

Ooh, good one, Monkey. I love me some JenLa.

Jenny, youknitwhat.blogspot.com is HYSTERICAL!! Thanks!

I kept checking back to see if CAP had updated (going through withdrawls here!) and noticed how many comments she had. Over 100! These are the best comments EVER!! So entertaining! That just proves CAP is the best blogger and has the best readers EVER! :-)

Is there a place to vote for the best blog on the internets?? I say we take CAP there & have it for her to see when she gets back. So anyone know of one????

Fellow girl suffering from withdrawal here... So, I have to add the following site to the withdrawal-therapy list:
www.threadbared.com
Also, anyone remember how long the trip is? I need my purl fix...and I'm not even a knitter! (yet)

Regarding best blogs on the internet, go to:
http://www.thebestofblogs.com/nominations/best-knittingcraft-blog/
You'll see that our Crazy Aunt Purl's blog was nominated a couple times (#7 and #56, I think).
Earlier this week, I heard an announcement on TV naming some of the best blogs, but I don't know if they were just recently chosen, or that was old news.

Yes, I'm going through withdrawal pains too! Every night I check if there is anything new and NOTHING YET! Hope you are having a smashing time in Paris, but come back soon!
See, you are so loved.

CAP, you're in Paree, probably enjoying cheese and wine (whoops!) and fabulous pastries - when you're not doing copious French yarn shopping and buying teeny little berets for the Insane Cat Posse.
As for moi (see? French!), I'm trying to use my Spring Break productively by starting to study for finals. I'm not making much progress, FYI. I satisfy my Paris-lust by subscribing to the "Postcards from Paris" daily e-mail (it's free, which is good for law students and people with large yarn stashes). Check it out if you wish: http://www.internationalliving.com/opt/ftf/pfp/index.html.
Keep hangin' in there, everybody. She's gotta come home eventually...

Of course she is in Paris! What the Hell have I been thinking? I should have checked in the on the Commenters. Thanks everyone - brain injuries can be slow to heal, they tell me. I was about to start contacting area hospitals to make sure she had not come to any harm. Ya'll know who I would suspect.

I tried to log on to read JenLa, BUT, since I work at a school, we have to protect the children from the evil internet...
Did you know that “knottygirls” is classified as PORN by my school district?
Posted by: Shelly at March 30, 2006 07:12 AM
Lovely hair! I'd certainly stop by and let him work his magic with my hair. :)
Posted by: zee at March 30, 2006 08:55 AM
I don't get it -- you get your hair cut at Umberto Beverly Hills, but buy your sunglasses at Venice Beach?
Posted by: Neil at March 30, 2006 09:44 AM
OF COURSE! You have to make some concessions, you know, for the yarn money! Sunglasses are expendable!
Posted by: mellys at March 30, 2006 10:42 AM
Neil -- don't tell me you've never sported Venice Beach sunglasses??
But, to be honest, I shall disappoint you EVEN MORE when I tell you where I got those sunglasses: The Pacoima Swap Meet. Because that's how I roll, ese.

LAURIE!!!

...and the Coca Cola cost $7US! I could live in Paris forever too....sigh....okay, that's it! I'm goin'!
Thanks for your great stories - I'm ALL FRANCE ALL THE TIME, so I have to live vicariously through those people who go there without me. Lucky lucky you!
P.S. Still laughing over the umbrella story..."I'm from L.A. you mofo!"
