Los Angeles at lunch.
There's nothing like the smell of King Taco in the afternoon.

Mmm... salsa goood..... *drool*
P.S - can you give Roy a cuddle from me - he always looks like he needs a cuddle.
Oops. Boss just walked in. Back to work now.
Posted by: Kellie N at November 16, 2005 02:14 PM
Roy does need a cuddle... he's been sick lately. He has athsma and the Santa Ana winds are hard on him, poor guy.
Yes, I have a cat that has ATHSMA. Maybe he's allergic to cats?

*whines* I want a tamaleeeeeeeeeee /whine
And Purl - just wanted to share I connected with a fellow VT knitter 'cause of your Frappr map! You rock the Casbah!
Posted by: Dusa at November 16, 2005 02:18 PM
Mmmmmmm...I had already planned to make Tacos tonight, now I am REALLY craving them. Oh, and one can speculate what they might need the plumber for, but if they don't deliver food, what do they deliver? I think you MUST investigate this and give us an in depth expose on the matter. Or not. Either way.

You do work at White Guys with Ties, Inc. You even had one in your picture. Do you guys have to dress up everyday for work? We are business casual except for Fridays when we can wear jeans.
Posted by: Mona at November 16, 2005 02:23 PM
Um...do I want to know why King Taco needs a plumber? Does it have to do with "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" - style sorority girls?
Posted by: Libby at November 16, 2005 02:31 PM
Oh, I miss the sopas. There was a King Taco in Baldwin Park where I used to work. UMMMM!
Posted by: lisa at November 16, 2005 02:31 PM
How weird! I am eating a tamale RIGHT NOW. Course, it's not your fancy-schmancy King Taco tamale ... just your average (Trader) Joe tamale (Ha!). Which someone got crispy in the microwave. Hello? How the F does something get crispy and rock hard in the microwave??
Grr.
No, no ... just go ahead and enjoy your authentic stuff. I'm fine. Really.
:)
Posted by: Kat at November 16, 2005 02:33 PM
Mona - yep. I have to dress up every day and all the guys wear ties even though we're in a non-client-facing division of White Guys In Ties, Inc. I manage to get away with weirder clothes ("She's the Art Director..." "Oh! That explains it!") but for the most part it's the Borg. No jeans ever, not even on Fridays.
Dusa I am so glad!
Ya'll... I have no idea why King Taco is hiring... plumbers. hehehehehe.
Posted by: laurie at November 16, 2005 02:35 PM
YUM! You are on fire today with the posts girl. Two in one day...don't let us get use to it!
Posted by: ck at November 16, 2005 02:38 PM
Yup, my kitten had asthma when we got her - we had to give her ventalin via a paediatric inhaler. You have no idea how strangely they look at you when you walk into the pharmacy and ask for a paediatric spacer for a kitten.
Posted by: Kellie N at November 16, 2005 02:39 PM
But is King Taco on the map? I'm sure he'd call you friend...
Posted by: Julie at November 16, 2005 02:52 PM
Where in the world is a King Taco near downtown? I want I want I want...although, have you tried the pupusas at Grand Central Market...yum!!!!
Posted by: Melise at November 16, 2005 02:54 PM
The BF's kitty has asthma - so sad to watch them wheeze :(. I too have asthma, but when I wheeze its just annoying ;)
The one sadly underrepresented cuisine here in NYC - Mexican. If it weren't for one small south/central American community in Westchester, I'd be woefully devoid of tamales. I'm jealous of how easy it is for you to get good ones!

I've always wondered what it would be like to take a picture of my lunch every day ... Now I know. Thanks Aunt Purl!
(And you have to wonder if the drivers are there to shuttle the plumbers around, or if the plumbers are there to assist the drivers)

We sell to them and I "can" believe that help wanted sign!

King Taco looks muy yummy.
Posted by: Kris at November 16, 2005 05:06 PM
Sending hugs to Roy!
I have a little terrier with asthma because of allergies. It's so hard to watch them have an attack and be completely useless. Our vet recommended children's Benedryl. But then the poor thing just looks stoned. I'm sure she's fine, but it makes me feel like a bad doggie mom.
Even weirder...my mom used to have a horse who had asthma and was allergic to grass hay. We had to give him shots. Who ever heard of a horse allergic to hay??
On a happier note...I think I must stop and pick up tacos and tomales for dinner.
Posted by: taral at November 16, 2005 05:12 PM
boy you ought to try western Pennsylvania mexican food if you want to try something "authentic"...and yes, I AM being Sarcastic!!!
Posted by: Cheryl at November 16, 2005 05:26 PM
Now I want Mexican food for dinner.
Posted by: kim at November 16, 2005 05:28 PM
Gotta LURVE that King Taco....have you tried Tacos El Unico?
Posted by: Andree at November 16, 2005 05:34 PM
Oh God. I'm originally from LA, going to school in NY, and just looking at those pictures makes me long for good tacos. Let me tell you, there aren't any out here. NONE. *sob*
Posted by: Jane at November 16, 2005 06:46 PM
looks yummy...its hot, santa annas in full force and on fire watch..
take care.
Posted by: lulu at November 16, 2005 06:49 PM
Oh... King Taco! There is nothing so good!
My grandfather built the oven at their first stand decades ago (I'm an East LA native) and I'd swear I have their chile rojo running through my veins. I can just taste their asada tacos!
Forget the turkey this Thanksgiving! I know what I'm having when I go back next week....

I have to say, I love your blog! Thanks!

King Taco muy caliente!
Caliente! Claiente!
Purly es muy CALIENTE!!
Posted by: haji-o-matic at November 16, 2005 07:08 PM
I'd be a wee bit concerned of what the food does to you that they need a full time plumber...
Posted by: Nancy at November 16, 2005 08:33 PM
You should send Mr. Coworker a memo.

Please be advised: Resistance is futile. Succomb to the camera now and save yourself the trouble.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm.... King Taco. That's one thing I miss about Texas. Up here in Philly there's no good taco joints. Only a couple "authentic" (meaning expensive) Mexican restaurants. I am happy to report that I'm going to Texas for Thanksgiving. We're arriving in Austin at midnight so after we pick up the rental we're hittin the Taco Cababna! 24 hour tacos, Yipee!!!!
Posted by: Jaimie at November 17, 2005 05:38 AM
hubby would kill for that tamale!
Posted by: April at November 17, 2005 06:24 AM
dude - that was just cruel. the closest thing I have to mexican here is Taco Bell. And we all know that just a load of crap.
i lurve me some good tacos. dammit. Purl, if you keep this up, I'm going to have only read your blog AFTER lunch.
grumble.
:)
Posted by: Suzi at November 17, 2005 08:36 AM
mmmm tacos. Detroit has a little section of town called Mexican Village with some good restaurants with real Mexican food. you make me want to go and gorge on cheap lunch buffet tacos.
Posted by: Holly at November 17, 2005 08:38 AM
I feel so foreign, I had to Google tamale. But them, I am about as far away from Mexico as you can be. The nearest we get to Mexican food is doritos and salsa, and I can eat a whole pot of salsa, forget the chips. Or else naaaasty yellow boxes, claiming to contain all you need for the authentic Mexican eating experience, which would be true if tacos were supposed to be the same texture and taste as cardboard, and a miserable little sachet of seasoning.
Your map rocks, btw, I just found another Purl-stalker living a mile away from me. Who'd have guessed it, on the other side of the world from you?
Posted by: irene at November 17, 2005 09:48 AM
Along with everyone else, now I want Mexican food, too. And look at that, it's lunch time. Guess I'll just go have spinach, like I do every day...
But hey, these out-jutting hip bones I have now--the kind that PROJECT and CAST A SHADOW--are totally worth it. And I actually like spinach. (Shoot me, i'm weird.)
Important and slightly funny anecdote: the sushi japanese restaurant I worked in had a bunch of Patino chefs, and they used to make mexican feasts every now and then.
So, so good. GOD was it good. and also fun, to eat mexican food with chopsticks on sushi plates.
Posted by: Aarwenn at November 17, 2005 12:14 PM
Ha! Patino! HA HA!
Um, yeah. I'm an idiot. I meant to say Latino. Obviously. Maybe I'm lower on blood sugar than I thought?
Posted by: Aarwenn at November 17, 2005 12:15 PM
By the way, your coworker looks cute! Although I can't see his face. But he has nice hands and nice hair.
Posted by: Aarwenn at November 17, 2005 12:28 PM
Purl - Good to see you are stocking up on your antibodies during cold and flu season. You lunch looks really good right now.....
Posted by: lisaz at November 17, 2005 01:23 PM
Of course they need plumbers... at least, in my family they do!! And the drivers are for the plumbers, I'm thinking, because tacos and backed up lavs need plumbers right now, and drivers must be ready 24/7 to get them to the taco store...
