Cheese on a Tuesday.

Sobakowa doesn't like cats very much, but she loves Roy to pieces. Since he's been sick she has been his constant companion. Who are these crazy people that think animals have no souls? Even evil dictator kittens know when their friends need them. (Soon-to-be-ex-husbands could learn a lot from this parable. I AM JUST SAYING IS ALL.)
Moving on.
So... it's a cheesy internets quiz. Don't hate.
TEN random things you might not know about me.
1: I write everything down on post-it notes.
2: Klutzy? Moi? Oui!
3: I swear I will never get married again.
4: I secretly hope that's not true.
5: Sometimes I panic at night.
6: I can't sing for crap.
7: But I do it anyway!
8: I prefer cake to pie.
9: I am dental-flossing challenged.
10: I make up words (you knew that one, I cheated).
NINE places I’ve visited
1: Iceland
2: Norway
3: Sweden, twice -- both times on accident
4: Poland
5: Czech Republic
6: France
7: Maine
8: Spain
9: Van Nuys ... ya'll. Don't be jealous.
EIGHT ways to win my heart
1: CAKE.
2: Adoration.
3: Drive me places. I hate to drive.
4: Hold my hand.
5: Be a willing participant in my crazy camera lady ways.
6: Forgive me when I mess up.
7: Be honest.
8. CAKE.
SEVEN things I want to do before I die
1: Write a book.
2: Have a little yappyass purse dog.
3: Take my mom on a cruise.
4: Go to Alaska with the fam. Hi Dad!
5: Let go. LET GO.
6: Hold onto something good.
7: Make out with my hairdresser.
SIX things I’m afraid of
1: Spiders.
2: Losing my family.
3: Roy dying.
4: Mr. X never regretting that he left.
5: Never finding the perfect pair of jeans.
6: Math
FIVE things I don't like
1: Mean people. What is the point? Really? Be nice or shutthefuckup.
2: Sushi.
3: Being paycheck-to-paycheck.
4: Divorce Lawyers.
5: Underwire.
FOUR ways to turn me off
1: Lie.
2: Be cruel to an animal.
3: Tell me all the things about me I should change.
4: Have no appreciation for cake.
THREE Things I do everyday
1: Daydream
2: Hope for the best
3: Get lost. No, really. I can get lost on the way to the 7-11. I need help, people.
TWO things that make me happy
1: Morning kitty snuggles
2: Unexpected smiles.
ONE thing on my mind right now
1: A far-away fantasy.
With this here internets quiz, I tag... EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. Heh heh. Seriously. Or Soba will come hug you to death.
Edited to add: Or don't do the internets quiz! It's your choice! I don't know what tagging is exactly, either, except that last time I forgot to do it and got eleventeen emails about it. So. Now I am doing it with everyone (because I am that sort of girl) what with my loose moral fiber and all. Cake!

I can't do an internet quiz without drinking.
I may have to save this one for after lunch. :-)
Posted by: Frank at November 29, 2005 10:03 AM
What a good list. But, do you ever put the milk in the closet and the cereal in the fridge? See, I understand getting lost, I can get lost in my own house.
Posted by: anmiryam at November 29, 2005 10:04 AM
So how IS Roy, btw? I see one eye looks a little watery still. Is he getting better though? Looks a little better IMHO. I'm hoping so. Sending good kitty thoughts.
[what? who me? COMPLETELY ignore being tagged for an internet quiz? Pshahhh. :)]
Posted by: Kat at November 29, 2005 10:07 AM
I'll answer the tagging on my blog -- no sense taking up all the room in your comments section. Kitty love is real, and beautiful to behold. I'm glad Sobakoa is using her powers for good to help Roy. I'm thinking lovely thoughts for him.
Posted by: Sara at November 29, 2005 10:10 AM
Kat! Thank you for asking :)
Roy is... better. Though not 100%. His eye still bothering him a little. But he is on a new medication, this one is liquid and he loves spitting it out all over the floor. Yum! He is eating, though, and that is a very good thing.
anmiryam -- I HAVE SO DONE THAT!! LOL. One time opened up the fridge and I was all, uh, Hello keys. What are YOU doing in here?
Frank: *mwah* Try the Oprah pomegranate cosmo....
Posted by: laurie at November 29, 2005 10:10 AM
SARA!! I hope I see you thursday....
Posted by: laurie at November 29, 2005 10:11 AM
I swear...Roy and Soba are wonderful...if only we (humans) could just be there for each other like that...I do love my kitties. My new kitten comes right up to my face with a hard purr whenever I start singing...even if she's asleep, she'll wake up.
I should mention: she's half-breed ragdoll -- looks like a full ragdoll; But here's the thing: SHE DOESN'T MEOW...anyone know anything about this oddity...)
i love your list...i need to make one of my own. You know, Laurie.. far as I can tell you're a pretty "grounded" person...just go through the feelings and stuff...looking at it...noticing it...it's works for me...
Posted by: Anonymous at November 29, 2005 10:15 AM
I like this one!
I'll do this one before the week is out.
Probably.
Heh.
I hope Roy is feeling better!

i am SO GLAD that roy is doing better.
i heart him from a (short) distance.
your quiz was very honest, and i will do it, but not till later in the week. i have pain to blog about first.
ps- i totally knew sobakowa wasn't evil.

see you thursday at snb?
Hi DebR!
Hey, anonymous, my Soba doesn't meow either. She does growl when she gets mad though. And Frankie doesn't so much meow as WHINE. Cats. Weirdoes!
Posted by: laurie at November 29, 2005 10:23 AM
Hi anonymouse, here it's actually me "kd" -- I forgot to fill it in...thanks.
Yeah, my kitty will growl when irked and give a littel squeal if stepped on...you see we have put bells on her so that we know where she is (most of the time). She may need a tracking device one day...
Posted by: kd at November 29, 2005 10:29 AM
I still have visions of Soba floating toward me at five in the morning.
Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at November 29, 2005 10:37 AM
Glad Roy is feeling much better Laurie.
Your list is quite interesting I can tell you really LIKE cake :) So what's your favorite? I'm a brownie girl myself.

I'm so happy that Roy is doing better.
I just want to say that next week I'll be watching a purse dog. I CAN NOT wait to take him places in my purse! I'm so excited! PURSE DOG!

Posted by: vanessa at November 29, 2005 10:45 AM
Yeah for Roy and Soba's healing powers. I have to give my cat Faith two deworming pills tonight. Pray for me.
I am in the process of designing a knitting blog that should be ready for prime time soon. I'll add your quiz.

Pie and Burger in Pasadena. I would never diss cake ... I'm just saying.

I though there was so cosmic Internets rule about tagging with those crazy quiz things. Umm.
Posted by: Kristy at November 29, 2005 10:55 AM
Okay, that getting lost thing? My husband so does that too! He's a graphic designer - I think it's cuz you guys are so creative and always thinking about all things creative that you don't realize where you are. That's why I got him a GPS system, so I can keep track of him. No, wait, so he wouldn't get lost, yeah that's it.
I love the list. Still sending healing thoughts to Roy.
Posted by: Sandy at November 29, 2005 10:57 AM
I have a purse dog, but I keep getting kicked out of places. Why, just last week, I had to tell her that she was no longer welcomed at Target. Yes, Target, where they have two full aisles of designer doggie attire! Mr. BadAss Security Guard (Age 17) told me it was due to the "open air food court." I think I need to move to the big city where dogs are welcomed in stores. Hmph! But I digress... Glad Roy is feeling better...
Posted by: Kim at November 29, 2005 10:58 AM
Want my yappyass purse puppy? Your cats will probably eat him.
Posted by: Libby at November 29, 2005 10:59 AM
Thanks alot for drawing me in with the ridiculously cute cat picture then tagging me with an internet quiz...I didn't see it coming! It was fun though...on my blog to read now.
Posted by: Roxanne at November 29, 2005 11:03 AM
That was awesome. I secretly relish these kinds of forwards/quizzes. But my friends all claim to hate them too so I only send them to my little sister, who still believes she can save the world with an email forward. Or at least make a wish come true. So I'm going to post it too, but just for my own personal satisfaction, and maybe the one lone person who admits to reading my blog...
Posted by: Neyners at November 29, 2005 11:08 AM
I am all over being tagged for a questionaire. :)
Glad to see Roy is feeling better. :)
Posted by: kim at November 29, 2005 11:21 AM
What cute and wonderful cats. I miss mine, but now I have 2 dogs that are equally wonderful and affectionate but a bit larger than my cats. A Great Dane and a Mastiff. Oh Laurie, I've never heard of anyone with the same level of appreciation of CAKE as me!! Want me to do anything~~ply me with cake!
Posted by: Kelly at November 29, 2005 11:22 AM
Ditto on the the cake-loving thing, sister. Me thinks the world needs more cake..and less fruity pies. By the by, check out the Bubble Room on Captive Island if you ever get down near Fort Myers, Florida. They have BIG pieces of cake. The orange-something crunch cake is most delightful.
I think this might be their website...

But where is the wine in all of this???
Posted by: Kimberling at November 29, 2005 11:24 AM
Well, I'll give you the Reader's Digest version.
10. Can't sing? Moi aussi.; John Waters also uses Post Its; I'm freezing at 69 degrees; don't really miss home; okay, so that's four, but I'm pressed for time.
9. I've been to England, Mexico, Chicago, all the Eastern states from Maine to Carolinas, Newark, South Central
8. I'm a push over. Anyone with a sick sense of humor and dental hygiene.
7. Finish school, make a sweater, have a one-night stand in a foreign country (Mexico doesn't count).
6. Dark, zombies, cockroaches, dying alone.
5. I agree with all your dislikes except underwire. I need me some support.
4. Turns offs? Bad teeth and the failure to find me charming.
3. Everyday I read Crazy Aunt Purl and floss
2. Good deeds and presents make me happy.
1. Why didn't I call in sick.
Posted by: Laurie Ann at November 29, 2005 11:24 AM
Yeah, I noticed the absence of wine as well. What gives?! Soba - she is so beautiful. I never thought she was evil. We're both just... misunderstood. Will have to give your quiz careful consideration. And copious amounts of liquor.
HEY - Still collecting little toys for Thursday nite!!!

Posted by: MonkeyGurrrrl at November 29, 2005 11:30 AM
Ya'll... don't you think the wine is implied in all things? Like ... the wine is silent. It is ever-present...
Monkey are you coming to SNB?????
Posted by: laurie at November 29, 2005 11:53 AM
Oh Laurie, Soba and Roy, so cute!
But I for one am not a big fan of the purse dog, not so much for the dog, but if it doesn't act like a dog, what's the point?
However, I did hear tell of a woman who lived next door to a friend of mine in NYC who went everywhere with her pet ferret in her cleavage. I say you start that trend over in LA.
Posted by: Christine at November 29, 2005 11:56 AM
Sweden, twice, by accident? I think that's a testimonial to being able to get lost.
Make these people post their blog links. I'm unemployed and BORED!
Posted by: k at November 29, 2005 11:57 AM
Bored and unemployed??? Visit my blog! I am beginning to feel unloved cause I don't have hordes of people commenting about how goofy I am cause I cannot figure out the public transportation. Be the first!
PS, Laurie: I shall do the internets quiz this afternoon. I shall, I shall.
Posted by: Jenna at November 29, 2005 12:06 PM
I'll trade you cake for fruit pie.
Glad that the Soba is helping Roy to get better by employing the little-known method of the 'laying on of the chin'.
Posted by: Anonymous at November 29, 2005 12:13 PM
My tortie is way into the kitty love healing powers, too. I can not cry with out her hugging me with her tail. She fusses at me if I yell at the dogs. One time she got in the middle of a dog fight (pit bull mix attacking my lab mix) and actually BROKE IT UP! Don't mess with her puppy!

Ok, so now for a humiliating confession... I'm really new at the blogging stuff. Could someone explain "getting tagged" (I get the gist) - but in the context of what it means for my blog???

Posted by: shari at November 29, 2005 01:47 PM
ok, the keys in the fridge thing? My husband, whose brain is always occupied with song-writing and/or fiction-writing, has that absent-minded professor thing going, too. Once, I opened the fridge to find a neatly folded pile of his underwear. As soon as got over staring at it and going "huh?" I went to his dresser drawer where I found a tupperware of steamed broccoli.
Posted by: Lauren in Austin at November 29, 2005 01:55 PM
Broccoli in the underwear drawer? Wonder what Freud would make of that. Even if underwear was in the frig.
Glad to hear Roy is doing better! At least w/liquid medication, he's getting his mouth and tongue coated with some of it before he spits it out.
Cake. Bah. Cake is merely a carrier for icing as pie is a carrier for whipped cream. No other purpose.

Mmm....cake. I have a recipe for Chess Cake from my Aunt Joyce in Arkansas. Maybe she didn't like pie either and turned the southern chess pie into cake? She also turned rum cake into bourbon cake. Or is it the other way 'round?? Whatever. It's cake. It's good.

two things.... books on tape for the quiet times in the middle of the night. and for the panic...lift small little 5 pound weights until it passes. REALLY... i couldn't have gotten through my own divorce without these two aids. the first solution i found on my own, the second suggestion from my therapist.
Posted by: Anonymous at November 29, 2005 04:10 PM
Cake over pie all the way unless we're talking my momma's punkin pie. Then we gotta have the pie.
And I won't be jealous that you've visited Van Nuys if you won't be jealous that I've visited Fontana. (It's an Inland Empire thang.)
Cyberhugs for Roy (and Soba too, although I know she's really only prentending not to like it).

PS - trip to Chicago was loverly and wonderful and now i'm all ewey gewey in love. Blech.
Glad to see that Roy's being healed by the all powerful Soba. I'm sending good jujus his way!! XO
Posted by: marissa at November 29, 2005 05:11 PM
I'm glad Roy is better, but I will not feel better until he is PERFECTLY BETTER. I hate that they can't tell us what's wrong. I am, however, Truly Madly Deeply in love with all of your kitties, but now Soba has grabbed me with all of her might.
Why must cats only snuggle in the morning? Cappersnapper is *only* interested in snuggling up against me if it is before I've had coffee, when all I want to do is RUSH to the coffeepot. But I delay for his smoochable little cheeks. I love those cheeks.
And I get lost daily, too. DAILY. And CAKE. OH MY GOD, CAKE.
And if I were Mr X, I sure as hell would regret leaving funny, adorable, totally human you.

Crap - now I have to figure out how to post the picture of my two kitties snuggling (I typed snubbling at first - hello Newcastle!!) on the couch. That pic of Roy and Soba is adorable. Leaving now, before I reveal any more of my drunkosity.

My aunt had a next door neighbor who for years had a giant iguana that would crawl in and out of her shirt and hair.
and I don't see much difference between the yappyass dog and a rodent, except the rodent is likely to be quiter, friendlier and smell better.

I have no idea how I got here, but somehow got sucked into your world of knitting and cats and divorce.
I'm sure you've heard something like what I'm about to say before, but I'm gonna say it again:
IF #2 of 4 WAYS to TURN you OFF = "Be cruel to an animal" WHY DO YOU EAT THEM? At least consider (why? because, according to #1 on your list, you're big on honesty) a rewrite ("Be cruel to COMPANION animals") if you can't follow through on your compassion toward ALL animals.
Glad 'ol ROY is feeling better. With his free-range turkey diet, he's eating better than you are! Don't expect magic from temporary diet changes, though. Diet is #1 cause of disease for humans and animals alike: do NOT ever feed him bacon or anything with animal by-products again (unless you want him eating rendered shelter animals and possibly mad cow). Cat "health food" (no, it's NOT vegetarian - that's just crazy) is widely available in big chain pet stores and small pet shops now, so there's no excuse to not try it unless you prefer the vet bills. After my cats went on Wysong Vitality, the litter box no longer smelled as if something just died and the oldest cat started looking much more youthful.
Good luck!
