Cats on my stuff.
For a month people have been sending me emails with a link to this site, Stuff On My Cat, and seriously, ya'll? Why do you immediately think of ME when you see the words "STUFF" and "CATS" in the same web address?
Oh, yeah.
Anyway. Moving along!
But really, even though there is occassionally stuff on my cats, there is more often than not a cat (or two) on my stuff. So I present to you ... some cats on my stuff. It's pretty exciting out here on the Internets today, no?

And there you have it... possibly the one photo essay that ensures I will never again have a date. Which is a lucky break, if you think about it, since my clothes are covered in cat hair and all my shoes are being used as kitty beds. Next stop: the secret life of a sock drawer, coming soon to an Internets near you! Live from Chez Spinster, where the hijinks just keep 'a comin'!

Oh no, it's when you start dressing them in baby clothes that you ensure terminal datelessness. Trust me on this one. Or when every room of your home is decorated with cat-themed items...stuffed toys, wall hangings, pillows, figurines, magnets, mugs...I know someone who does this. Rather...disturbing. We're pretty sure she's not even looking to date anymore. It does make gift-giving easy though!

It's great to know that my cats are not abnormal. We were wondering why Sam needed to sleep on our shoes and if he needed therapy or something. Well, maybe he does need therapy, but not for this.

Even though I am at work and should not be on the internets...heh....I have to check in to see if there are new cat pictures on your blog! Hooray! More cat pics.
I've got cats on my stuff too. You are not alone.

You make me wish I could have a cat of my own. I'm thinking of buying a goldfish.
Posted by: Pants at September 28, 2005 08:46 AM
I have no cats - but my dogs do the same thing. They sit on the strangest things. And then act like they are all comfortable - but you know there is no way in hell that they are.
opie fel asleep with a raquet ball in his mouth the other day, he wnated to make sure Abbey did not play with it while he was sleeping. I wish my camera had been charged!
Posted by: Crystal at September 28, 2005 08:50 AM
My kitties do the same thing. They have to lay on everything I need.
Oh, on the reincarnation front...my brother is convinced that Bert is my father. When I first adopted him he began sneezing...multiple sneezes just like my father. Bert is also obsessed with two relief maps I have of my father's (they are on the wall). He also does tricks that my dad would teach our dogs...sit up pretty and shake hands. OOOOooooo
On the dating front...you haven't been single all that long. Sometimes men don't do well with cats and sometimes they do. I went on a second date once. The guy sat down on my couch and WHAM...Bert...he flew across the room, slid on the coffee table right into the man's lap. Bert wouldn't move!! Later on that night I was asked "would you ever get rid of your cats for me?" It was the second date!! I also found out that he didn't like any kind of pet and kids.
Now my brother-in-law is a different story. He was only dating my sister for about 3 months and he took her to a 'kitty farm' and bought her a kitty. I knew he was a keeper.

Stuff on cats. Stuff in cats. Stuff with cats. It's all good.

There's still hope! I met my husband shortly before I got my cat back from my aunt's (moved into small apt, couldn't afford the pet deposit at the time, afforded it later). He's insane (the cat), and Ben (husband) and I lived together for 2 years (and another cat) before getting married. He doesn't mind the cathair, or the strange behavior (Stefano likes shoving his head into shoes... mmmm... feet (ugh) and Murrie was weaned too soon (ow, ow, ow) and tries to nurse on various body parts (my shoulder doesn't give milk!)). And we now have a dog, too. Who's also insane.
Posted by: Christy at September 28, 2005 09:14 AM
I agree, its when you start putting stuff on your cat that the dates stop...
Having said that, Stuff On My Cat makes me laugh out loud, damnit.
I don't think cats like cleared off surfaces--no challenge there, you know? Why step on the cleared off night table when the cluttered one holds so much more opportunity to knock stuff on the floor?
Posted by: Shelly at September 28, 2005 09:19 AM
Ok my cat must be a freak because the only "stuff" that Brian is on is my bed. Other than that it's the couch or the floor. He so unimaginative!!

New update at CrazyAuntPurl = happy reading. Thanks for the entertainments.

I don't have a cat I have a dog called Max. Max sleeps on the landing with his head in a cupboard, pic on my blog somewhere. He also sits on the bottom stair like its a chair but I haven't managed to get a pic of that yet. Who needs men? We have pets! :p

:) You will forever be associated with cats and stuff and kitty porn. It could be worse. . .
-D.

You know, dates are highly overrated!
Posted by: Ginnie at September 28, 2005 09:56 AM
why date when you have cats? ....you would not believe the number of men (dates) that i had to tell: "i'm sorry you don't like my cats, but i've known them longer than i've known you. goodbye!"
on the other hand, my husband (3 yrs. and counting!) encouraged me to adopt numerous homeless cats in addition to the four i already had . . .well, maybe not *encouraged*, but he didn't complain, anyway . . . well, at least not much . . .
Posted by: anita at September 28, 2005 10:07 AM
I usually lurk. Today I wanted to tell you how much you crack me up!! Your blog has become my regular read! Love the kitties!
Posted by: Janet at September 28, 2005 10:12 AM
My rat terrier curls up on any clothes she can get to. Especially if it's made out of fleece...which she will jam into her mouth and try to milk with her paws. She has issues. The big dog will steal socks and try to curl up in a little ball to sleep on them. She has issues too.
I do not claim to understand these issues. But I think the cat knows. Although, she pretends to have no issues as long as her bed is warm and there is food in the bowl.

Hehehe. The internets are good to us today! How I love the cat pictures (I laugh out loud just thinking of BACON). Thanks, Auntie.
Posted by: Kari at September 28, 2005 10:30 AM
By cat back at my parents’ home (see pictures here http://sweetbippy.blogspot.com/2005/08/el-gato.html ) was only ever interested in lying on things I was using. God forbid I should want to stretch out on the floor and read the newspaper or do a craft project or do anything but pay attention to the cat. He also liked to intervene with piano playing. He would get up on the keys and sit and stare at you, and sometimes paw and gnaw at your arms and hands. Not much of a music fan I guess.

hee hee, I LOVE that Web site. I was sitting next to my boss in an all day meeting yesterday and couldn't even BEGIN to blog surf!
Posted by: LeAnne at September 28, 2005 10:55 AM
Just found your blog. It makes me so happy to know there are other 30-something women with cats who love to knit and drink and read books and take pictures of their cats sitting on things.
Posted by: Aimee at September 28, 2005 11:05 AM
okay, if we are discussing kitty websites, then Sobakowa's picture must be sent into www.mycathatesyou.com. I'm sure it would not be too difficult to get a hateful picture to send to them!
Love your cats, Laurie! My cats are always on my stuff as well. We are now up to five, by the way. If you haven't been by, stop by the blog and meet the newest bit of cuteness!

Another version of the "stuff on cats" site you mentioned today: http://www.ashearer.f2s.com/blog/?p=2. I saw this one a few months ago and laughed until I cried!
Keep up with the good bloggin'! You are a scream (in the good way)!

hahahahha. that was funny.
Posted by: stefanie at September 28, 2005 11:29 AM
My cats sit on EVERYTHING. Those flip flop pictures look pretty familiar! My parents come to visit, and the first thing my big fat grey cat does is park herself on their suitcase, leaving about an inch of grey cat hair all over it. It's not easy to get cat hair out of a suitcase, apparently, because that cat hair has now been all over the world. It's better traveled than I am!!!
Posted by: Melanie at September 28, 2005 11:29 AM
I myself prefer cats on stuff to stuff on cats...just went to that website. Poor kitties! And my boyfriend's cat (yes Laurie - some guys do love them like children!) was at my house for a week while he (the bf) was moving, and would mostly ignore me until I sat down to crochet. Then it became play time! There's nothing like wet yarn slipping through your fingers...

I just Googled "cats and porn" and Crazy Aunt Purl was the first link on the list. That should help your dating situation.

You make me laugh :-)
Posted by: Deena at September 28, 2005 05:21 PM
see, i left my cat with my parents and their other cats a few years ago. I miss her desperately, but my mom is always calling me to tell me what stuff my cat has been on that day. In the meantime, my mother's other cats prefer to lounge in the plants. Because, where else would they hang out?
Posted by: erin at September 28, 2005 07:16 PM
LOL! I am one (apparently of many) that sent this to you and I don't even know you! I dunno, you post more pics of your cats than most bloggers I know! You know what's fun to put on your cats? Those biodegradable packing peanuts...give them a lick and they stick anywhere!

One of my roomates in college had a cat who liked to sit on whatever you were paying attention to. Whenever I wanted her to sit on my lap, I'd pretend to read the newspaper. 10 seconds, cat on the paper.
We just moved into a new house a couple months ago, and since we went from a little apartment (kinda near you, Purl, in Burbank) to a big house (in Ohio), we didn't have much furniture. In the middle of our big living room is a round metal plate that covers an outlet, which until we got furniture was the only landmark in the room. One of our cats would only lay down in that location. He's never happy just laying on the floor as long as there is something else around, be it a piece of paper or a plastic bag.
About cat porn, today when I was making lunch, I noticed the male cat was licking the female cat's asshole. She seemed to be enjoying it, as far as I could tell. Thank god they're both fixed.

You seem to have Cats On Stuff & the other is Stuff On Cats ~ just the same but different! I don't think I will need to be seriously concerned about you until you start posting pics of Stuff IN Cats (open wide, Roy!)

I hope you and the kids are surviving the terrible Southern California fires. I hear wool burns pretty well. Is your stash protected from fire? ;)
Posted by: Kristy at September 28, 2005 11:25 PM
My cats have a tendency to pretend to be other animals. We caught one cat laying on a pile of straw in the garage - Daughter says he is a bird. We have pictures of another doing his best "jaws" imitation.
My contribution to Kitty porn: Does anyone else have 2 brothers (who, coincidentally, are fixed) who want to be more than "just friends"? I always catch my one cat atop his brother, biting his neck, doing who knows what (kept clean for a work computer). Makes me wonder if the doctor got it all when he was down there.....

I like to mess w/ my cats and put a few magazines/shoes/etc juuuuust far enough apart that they have to stretch for them and sit back to watch the contortions they get into to lay on all of the objects at once. Reading that trainwreck of a sentence (both grammar-wise and subject-wise) it is so obvious that I need a life....badly....*sob*

You need to become our (old) neighborhood's Crazt Cat Lady. Complete with old hippie clothes, old hippie hair, junk filled car and 20 cats the county took away. In fact, she told my friend she might not be able to catsit if she had to go to court for the 20 cats. But really, what other type of compulsive eccentric neighbor do people love and trust so much?
Posted by: Erica at September 29, 2005 09:45 AM
Hey Crazy Cat Lady,
What? No Lost update? Did Bob sit on the remote thus hiding from you so that you couldn't change the channel??? I'm just asking.
Posted by: Risë at September 29, 2005 10:46 AM
Hey are y'all OK in the Valley over there? Those wildfires are only about 10 miles north of Encino, no? Stay safe, and when in doubt evacuate (but I don't have to tell you that, the queen of preparedness). Nature is trying to kill us again! Why won't it stop?
Posted by: shananigans at September 29, 2005 11:11 AM
my roommate's (now late) fat cat, brutus, would only sit on stuff. we would often lose the remote because he was sitting on it and he was so fat that we couldn't see it at all. the best was when we left a painting in the middle of the living room for a few weeks (we're messy and lazy) and brutus would stretch out on the canvas like a lady on a piano.

Glad to see I'm not the only one out there that dresses their cat in a Halloween costume..... yep, he's Superman complete with cape... ahh, he parades around in it.. he likes it! We'll see what I find this year...

Perhaps your dating efforts should be focused on Veterinarians specializing in cats, or farmers raising llamas, cashmere goats, alpacas, or, in a pinch, SHEEP. I don't think they'd mind cats on stuff or stuff on cats. If I can re-marry at 50, you can find somebody!!

I've managed to save up roughly $70044 in my bank account, but I'm not sure if I should buy a house or not. Do you think the market is stable or do you think that home prices will decrease by a lot?
Posted by: Courtney Gidts at January 20, 2006 12:17 AM
yay! so Tiger isn't totally crazy. I was thinking she just has a shoe fetish. She will lay on any kind of shoe. Doesn't look very comfy. She also likes to wrap presents *eye roll*
