This just in! A knitting website with no knitting!

There hasn't been much knitting going on around Chez Spinster, and the reason is sort of pathetic and reflects poorly on my time-management skills. But ... I just haven't had enough free time to think up my next project, then pull together the supplies from the stash and needles, put it all in a bag and get busy.

This also exposes my poor organizational skills.

Finally, I dug into the stash yesterday and came up with... um. Well. Ya'll know. Patons Up Country in charcoal grey. I am ashamed to tell you how much of this stuff I have, especially after my insane hoarding spree of June 2005. (I am embarrassed... yet also conversely EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH MYSELF.) (I practically have an entire sheep flock in my stash.) (AND I LOVE THIS FACT.)

I haven't gotten very far. But still, it's knitting!
Three guesses what this is gonna be....

I forgot my knitting kit, however.

And... apparently when you WEAR this knitting (even just three rows of it) you become DEMONIC and POSSESSED BY EVIL:

I think I'm going to attach that pic to my divorce papers. For context.

Comments

let's see...I guess it will be a cozy mouse cover/warmer thingamabob to keep at work?

Ok so my guess was lame!

Well - if you left it like that it would make a great headband/sweatband. With the heat wave we are having I fear FL will never be cool enough again to wear a hat.

Knitting - the only thing I have mastered is casting on still. I really need to find time to learn how to actually knit and purl.

Speaking of the d-papers, isn't Mercury no longer retrograde?

Posted by: Mary at August 17, 2005 10:14 AM

Yay, knitting!!!! Ya know, after all of the talk about stash and justifying yarn buying that I've read on here and other threads, I went through my "stash" and am ashamed to admit that I am waaaaaay behind in that department. So. I think this weekend may be a stash enhancement weekend.

Whaddya think? It's either that, or add another cat to the family.

Posted by: Mary in Boston at August 17, 2005 10:19 AM

The stash is a good thing. That way when you find the time to start a new project all the yarn you need is there...or at least that's what I keep telling everyone. Of course they roll their eyes as I keep buying more without using the stash.

Sweetie!!

So glad to see that you're back to knitting again!!! Must be a nice warm gray wool hat. Perfect for Encino in summer! Good luck. Looking forward to having you back at the good ol' WeHo SnB soon!

Hugs!

I dunno...but I'm sure I saw a hat based off of those kitty ear hats (remember those?) that had horns instead ..somewhere...that would be PERFECT for the day the divorce is finalized.

Posted by: Beth at August 17, 2005 10:53 AM

Ha! I was going to make some comments about what the coworkers must think, but then I remembered that knowing you there aren't any coworkers there yet because you have arrived at work at the butt-crack of dawn.

Posted by: jen at August 17, 2005 11:07 AM

You are definitely a hat chick!!
The other night someone called me a bag hag because I knit purses all the time...I prefer the time purse ho.

Posted by: cheryl at August 17, 2005 11:32 AM

I hope you're saving up the divorce paper info for a good post. It's Good Luck time!

Posted by: Chris in MN at August 17, 2005 11:33 AM

you should knit a pointy witch hat. but it won't be fully evil because it's Paton's "grey". not black. so you're totally good.

Posted by: kendra at August 17, 2005 11:39 AM

Ahh, finally some knitting! A hat? Anytime I can't figure out what to make when I have a lull I just start a scarf. One can never have too many... :)

Hats are good -- they are not never ending sweater projects that get you so bogged down you look at the knitting sitting innocently on the coffee table and think "Ugh ~ Why did I think I wanted to knit that color?!? Just think of all the seaming I'm going to have to do." Sigh

Posted by: cant_talk_knitting at August 17, 2005 12:45 PM

umm..what about the mystery cat knitting thing???? Don't think you can just not mention it for a while and we'll forget...the internets never forget :)

Posted by: Kelly at August 17, 2005 01:31 PM

Ohh, gosh, umm, I think it is going to be another beanie/hat! But it could be a cat tunnel if it gets long or a neck warmer cos you SOOOO need neck warmers in LA at this stage! Maybe your office is cold, yeah, that's it. Attach that photo to your D papers? They'll wonder why it ever happened!

oh, yeah, this is on in Santa Monica:

You going? I won't be there (!!!!) but http://sknitty.typepad.com/sknitty/ wants to go

I feel DEMONIC and POSSESSED BY EVIL.

Perhaps I unknowingly channelled powers from your three rows of knitting?

Posted by: Miss Pants at August 17, 2005 02:04 PM

Aunt Purl - YAY! you are knitting again and I love grey - my favorite wool color. It looks like a hat - but will wait for official confirmation. Good luck with the heavy work load, the D-papers, Mercury, and the 4 cats. I read your blog daily and love it. IS a book in the offing?

A hat for Drew?

Posted by: ~drew emborsky~ at August 17, 2005 02:46 PM

It's so obviously a crown. Queen Aunt Purl!

Although, my first thought on reading today's blog..."You only work on one project at a time?!" You should always have multiple projects going. Sometimes you get bored. Sometimes you start to hate the yarn you thought you loved. Sometimes the project you thought would be easy has an F-factor of twenty bajillion.

I'm jealous of your stash. Mine has yet to fill a closet. Which is cause for much sadness.

Posted by: taral at August 17, 2005 02:48 PM

This is my first time on your blog and I have to say I could spend hours nosing my way into your life. Feel free to nose your way into mine, though I'm not nearly as good at sharing as you are.

Here's my guess though... funnel neck for a full body sheep costume for when you go to MOSCOW in DECEMBER. Or have your plans changed since January?

A hat for Faith???

Posted by: faith at August 17, 2005 04:02 PM

I was wondering when you were going to start knitting again!!! That will be a beeeee-autiful hat!

Posted by: Devon at August 17, 2005 06:59 PM

Oh no -- if your safety pin is a ghetto ass stitch marker, then what does that make the two paper clips that I've been using (besides office-supply thievery)? I was thinking maybe it was kind of cool but you have shamed me into digging out the real ones. Seems to work at keeping people from sitting next to me on the train, though.

Posted by: bobita at August 17, 2005 07:05 PM

jesus christ L, do you think you have enough readers? hmmm...anyway, email me a photo of him...i want to know what he looks like and put a jewish hex on him. it will make him constipated or make his feet hurt, give him exzema, something like that. listen, it is the best i can do. no, really, send me a picture.

I didn't know one could KNIT a condom....

Posted by: haji-o-matic at August 17, 2005 08:09 PM

Love that last pic...I wish I had the presence of mind to attach a pic like that on my divorce papers! My ex might have thought twice about messing with me after the fact! heh

Posted by: Sandee at August 17, 2005 08:56 PM

I say you're knitting a wool bikini. Because that is so useful.

Posted by: Christina at August 17, 2005 11:34 PM

I know sending in the D-papers was traumatic, but just think how cathartic it will be to write about and post it. I mean, you DID sign and return them by now, haven't you??

Posted by: Leslie at August 18, 2005 04:09 AM

thanks for the belly laugh this morning!!!! :)
i'm forwarding this entry to my mom ---- she needs some morning laughter too.
by the way, it's nice to see some knitting on your site again.

Posted by: gray la gran at August 18, 2005 04:10 AM

Hey, at least you had a safety pin. When I'm desperate I've resorted to paper clips, twist ties, bits of yarn...they all work!

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
