The Network For Good provides links to tons of places for you to donate, including the Red Cross, Humane Society, Salvation Army and Petsmart Charities. You get to pick where you donate the money, and every last dollar helps. Please don't forget about the animals in need, too, they don't have any way to cry out for help.

Dear Laurie, Thanks for the link! Thoughts and prayers with everybody in La, Ala, Miss. So glad that Petsmart is helping. The picture of the puppy just broke my heart. Hopefully he/she is OK now. Mani

My husband and I were just talking about all the poor animals last night...I mean who could leave their cat/dog/whatever to fend for themselves in those conditions???? I'd sleep in my car on an interstate heading before I'd leave any of my pets behind! At least one of the high rise hotels could have offered to take in animals. Anyway, thanks for the donation link.

CK -- Oh, I know, I know. I would be in my car with four cats in their carriers and all of us eating meow mix to survive. But to me, my animals are family. It's all so, so sad.
I spent many summers as a kid down in Biloxi, Pass Christian, that whole area... to see it all gone is just heartbreaking.

The hub and I were talking about it last night too. How could those poor animals have survived? How hard it must have been on those poor people who had go to the sporting facility to leave their animals because they were not welcome. Makes me depressed.

I'm so glad you posted about the Humane Society. I called a radio show today to remind people that they will need help, too. Thank you!! The Chairman Meows of the world thank you.

That is one sad-looking dog. That makes me sad. That makes me pick up the phone...thanks for the reminder, Laurie.

sweetheart, why aren't you sleeping? is it the hurricane, the knitting, the job, or the "d" word? i'm not sleeping either .... something related to the "d" word. i move on saturday. perhaps the change will affect my blog --- more pictures with the tv in the background, the view, the bedroom, etc .... yes. the hurricane damage is beyond horrible --- we are lucky and blessed where we are, no matter how high the gas prices climb. let's help where and how we can. and don't be like me, waking up in the wee hours with a screaming bladder, and once returning to bed, the mind on fire with enough thoughts to spin the planet.
life is _____ . we'll be okay. eventually.

It's such a disaster area down there - we have no idea. Dateline will be busy with human interest stories for 3 years (and I'll watch everyone!)
Slip STS! I LOVE them! They're a cool, cool, way to make color - and you only have to fiddle with one color at a time!
Uh, um, ahem, here's a little zip front tank top I did a while ago for magknits using a slip stitch plaid (really much easier than it seems!)

(please forgive me, I just had to post that...)

So, I was sitting on the couch knitting a bag to felt (free KnitPicks pattern-easy)and trying to keep track of when to slip the stitch to make the corner when Jay Leno's monologue caught my attention. It seems a man in Simi Valley was arrested recently for pumping 8 rounds into his neighbor's car. Apparently, he got tired of listening to the guy's car alarm which was constantly going off. Um..Laurie? You don't own a gun, do you?
