That $2.56 a gallon looks good about now.

gas-267-yikes.jpg

This photo was taken in Studio City on my way home today. File this under "reasons people can be glad they don't live in Los Angeles." TWO DOLLARS and SIXTY SEVEN cents a gallon for regular. COME ON PEOPLE.

I was totally against invading Iraq, and I mean no disrespect to the men and women over there, since half my high school seems to be serving in one desert or another this very moment. (Love you guys!) I simply didn't think we should put my hometown folks in the Guard out there in harm's way. Now, that's just my opinion (and no one listened to me, or offered me a job in the Pentagon by the way. Even though I have more opinions than you can shake a stick at.) Everyone has an opinion.

But, you know (oh, they are so going to revoke my "Bleeding Heart Liberal" club card after this remark) ... now that all is said and done, and we invaded and so on, shouldn't we be paying 80 cents a gallon for gas? I'm just saying, is all. Because someone is getting rich off this somewhere. And it isn't me. And it isn't the soldiers. And it isn't you. Oh, I mean unless your last name is Cheney. In which case, "Hi! Glad you read my blog. Now stop screwing with us! Ok?"

In my humble opinion (and you know about opinions) the suppliers are getting rich. Gas was $55 a barrel last year and we were paying $1.40 more or less a dime. It's so sad. But hey, the people in this country don't deserve minimum wage to go up (didn't we know $5.15 an hour was more than enough to live on?)

HAve fun, here in VA we are now paying $2.23 so I can feel your pain when topping off the tank.

As both an LA resident and a raving liberal, I totally understand. I even started a whole knitalong on the "support the troops not the war" mentality. :)

There are places in Marina Del Rey and Malibu that have prices listed over $3. I find it particularly funny to think about how much it costs Hummer owners to fill up. I think they have 2 tanks, a 20 gallon and a 15 gallon. Imagine that at $3 a gallon every week.

I know! Someone out there is making money off these gas prices, and I know it isn't me. Everytime I pull up the pump, I just cringe. Yesterday, I went to fill up, and the people in front of me had paid over $70 for around 30 gallons. In what universe does that make sense? It makes me really miss the 88 cents a gallon that my parents paid when I was a kidlit.

warning australian rant to follow:

i would kill for petrol prices that good! over here we are paying around $1.10 per litre and when there is 4 liters per gallon, you do the maths!

Now see, Laurie, you should come down and visit me in La Mirada. Our most expensive gas is $2.59 right now. Hell no wonder they can't afford to use petroleum jelly when they're screwing bending us over, anymore.....

We are paying $3.24usd per gallon right now. For regular. That we pump with our own tiny hands that should be kept all clean for knitting and stuff.

And I hate you for making me do math and also for making me go to two different websites to figure out the conversion. I am a knitter, not a mather (which explains why all of my projects that have to be converted end up being frogged because I have trouble counting past six.)
